  • We're undertaking a trial at Heathrow to explore if the runways and the airspace around the airport can be used in a more efficient and flexible way. This video explains more about what the trial means.

I know it's not what people want, but heathrow desperately needs a third runway

Dual departures and arrivals could be annoying for spotters at the airport. At least with the current system all flights depart from one runway, and arrive on the other, meaning you know which spotting location to go to. With the 'dual' system it will be difficult to predict where to go if you're looking for a specific flight.

I think it will be interesting to see how things plan out but what I don't agree with is making it less noisy for the people living on the edge of the airport, what do you expect? But saying that I got all the Compton (SIDS) departures over my house when 09R in use and I didn't really mind. Still will be interesting to see both Runways shared between Departures and Arrivals.

Do you have job vacancies available at Heathrow guys?
I could be good ATC, but i'm also ok with being a Flight coordinator.
    Cheers,
    James.

As this video confirms, air transport creates blight from both noise and pollution. It appears sadly to be a necessary blight, in which case it should be suffered as widely as possible, not inflicted even more upon a population that suffers it worst and has been repeatedly lied to about expansion. The Midlands and the North are less densely populated and need any growth in jobs much more than London does. So instead of breaking promises again, the government should propose that the expansion is made in Manchester of Birmingham or both. If airports were nationalised such rationality would be explored; But they're privatised, so it's greedy grabs and glossy, tendentious PR, no doubt aided by lobbying as fast, furious and insidious as the pollution they generate.

We need fewer flights not continuing expansion if we're going to tackle climate change, noise and other pressing problems for people and planet. Aircraft are becoming slightly less polluting and noisy, but this is dwarfed by the increase in flights. Perpetual economic growth on a finite planet is nonsensical.
