    If Naruto and Sasuke would have been the ones to defeat Madara. It would have brought he's whole philosophy and ideals forward but Kaguya just made a whole situation pointless and frankly was used just to drag out the franchise into Boruto.

      Actually, look at it from thos standpoint.
      Madara, despite not believing in others, only got so far because of other people who either helped him, or because he took their power. Kaguya, the original progenitor of Chakra, coming and taking back everything Madara specifically stole and brealing his hypocrisy is the best possible irony there could be. Kaguya is someone who didn't need to steal anything or rely on anyone but her own embodiment, while Madara, whether adimitting to it or not, had to put his faith in others and their powers because he felt his own weren't enough.
      Boruto is still shit though and I think they could have stoppes with Naruto: The Last

      @MathWizHQ  6 років тому +591

      Some people (*cough* Swagkage *cough*) saw his dying interaction with Hashirama as redeeming, but...it's not. Unlike Obito and Pain, for example, Madara didn't make any attempts to "atone" for his actions. He acknowledged his defeat as his failure to change the world, and then he died. That's it. Hashirama made the comment about "drinking as war buddies," but that's because they had both failed and were both about to die. Hashirama was in no position to "redeem" Madara because Hashirama had also failed. He wasn't the moral center of the story, Naruto was, and Naruto wasn't even involved in that conversation, so yeah. Madara definitely wasn't redeemed.

      I'd even argue he isn't a villain. Not really. He does some pretty dark things for the greater good and his psyche was warped during his life, no small part due to his losses and premonition about the future - which became reality exactly as he foresaw - and still, in his core he truly believed in a good cause. There was no need for an apology: he did his best, achieved what he wanted and saw that the result is not what he envisioned. He acknowledged his path maybe wasn't the best and that was enough.
      Personal note: in my headcanon everything we see after he casts Mugen Tsukoyomi is Naruto's dream.

Already he's on The Wrong Foot. He wants the Lead a "Charge" for the best of mankind has a Sort of Tunnel Vision for his own longings. In Short "Fear,Violence,Dismay,Competition" are the Elements that make us fear the end. Without Fear their's no Motivation to keep Living and resilience. The World don't need changing we as people do. And "Hypnosis" is not what we need. To Take away my fear would be to take away my "Purpose" of life and reasoning to keep living. So what will i be? I also think he’d be the ideal final antagonist before Sasuke, but at least to some degree for different reasons. The thing about Madara to me, is that he actually acknowledges his hypocrisies, thus Naruto would never be able to convince him. It’d be the looming shadow of Naruto’s possible failure against Sasuke.
    Maybe I’m reading too much into Madara, but it seemed to me the Shinobi alliance was his intention too. The thing is, if that is true, Madara would create himself either the ideal world of isolation through the Eye of the Moon Plan or the ideal world of unison through the Allied Shinobi Forces, reaching compromise through the Great Ninja War conflict.
    Similar to both Naruto and Sasuke, Madara would be breaking the endless conflict between Asura and Indra himself, becoming himself the embodiment of both brothers. While Naruto and Sasuke found another path through the perfected version of Asura’s ideal of togetherness, Madara found another path through the perfected version of Indra’s ideal of loneliness. I just find it too poetically fitting to be untrue.
    To complement this, Zetsu embodies the perfect ninja, the true unhuman tool. And also there can’t be revenge, without actual people to direct it towards. Thus he’s the ideal tool to Madara’s achievement of a conflictless world through conflict.

    • @MathWizHQ
      @MathWizHQ  6 років тому +99

      That's a pretty interesting point even if it may be somewhat coincidental. Your point about Indra and Asura was actually similar to something I was going to add into this script, but I decided to save it for the prophecy/destiny video since I think it will ultimately be more fitting there (then again, I suppose I could've mentioned it twice - oh well, too late now lol). I hadn't considered that Madara's path was also a "perfect vision" of one of the predecessors, though, so I'm glad you figured that out and talked about it!
      This just makes me more frustrated with Kaguya and how she totally cut Madara's character arc out from underneath him. I want to know how this ideological argument between Madara and Naruto/Sasuke would have ended! Madara actually could have been the perfect antagonist.

    To be fair to Obito, he didn't reach the conclusion to reject the world on his own. Madara manipulated him and imposed that conclusion on him. Also, it is true that Madara wanted to fight Edo Hashirama for pleasure. However, he also had a purpose: He intended to fight Hashirama in order to attain his sage mode powers so that he could fight and weaken Juubi Obito, extract the Juubi from him, and force him to use Rinne Tensei on him, so that he could become the Juubi host.

    • @MathWizHQ
      @MathWizHQ  6 років тому +158

      That is true, though he did interpret their plan differently based on his own desires, so there's still a degree of self-interest involved. Madara just manipulated that self-interest to serve his own plans.

    • @TurrettiniPizza
      @TurrettiniPizza 6 років тому +50

      Yea, you're right. Obito's primary motive was definitely self-interest since he was still a kid whose life, in his mind, revolved around his childhood crush. Question for you, though. Did Obito, as an adult, really want to use the Infinite Tsukoyomi just so he could see Rin again? I ask because he became the Jinchuuriki and intended to do the Infinite Tsukoyomi himself. Meaning, he would have been controlling the genjutsu rather than being under it. Plus, most of his statements during the war made it seem like he just wanted to destroy the shinobi world by stripping everyone of their free will rather than live in his own little fantasy. I find it had to believe he was stupid enough want the IT as a way to live out his Rin fantasies.

    • @MathWizHQ
      @MathWizHQ  6 років тому +94

      I'd say no. Obviously his goal wasn't solely centered around Rin, it was centered around his past as a whole with Rin's death serving as the breaking point that pushed him over the edge. That was the origin of his mentality, which was the main difference between he and Madara. However, he did try to reach out to others like Kakashi and Naruto, so while his actions did have a degree of self-interest, they weren't entirely self-serving.

    • @deathgun5925
      @deathgun5925 6 років тому +65

      "If you really want a reason... I supose... it's because... You let.... Rin die."
      Simple minded people take Obito's words seriously, and missunderstood the message Kishimoto was giving. Obito's character is much more complex then just 'Rin'. at best he kept her as a balacing point for his mentality in order to push himself forward... It could have been anything, anything that he held dear.
      This is why i love Obito's character overall, (Though I am a Madara fanboy xD)
      (On a side not, I LOVE the ruffness in his voice(Japanese), makes it sound like he really went though hardships. AND is also the same VA that did Tobi, perfect.)

    You got Madara's philosophy on point. "His primary concern wasn't himself. His family was dead. His clan had rejected him. His village had rejected him. His best friend had rejected him. He had no personal connections left. The Eye of the Moon plan was created not out of a desire to restore what Madara lost, but as a cure for the human paradox."

      +hyenalover 26 It seems you havent read the manga properly. If you think his character is as shallow as for example, Vergil from Devil May cry, who was a character who actually SOUGHT power as he said it himself. He would have literally sacrificed a life of eternity on his own as a lonely god to achieve his dreams. He was already pretty powerful on his own seeing that he beat more than 90% ninjas solely on his own without becoming Sage of the 6th paths yet. Of course for a plan such as big you need power. Consider that Hashirama wasn't even his objective the whole War Arc. He was just a realistic character seeing that peace does not work either way because of human nature and the cicle of sacrifice and bloodshed. And if it werent for the late asspulls and Kaguya, he would have won, pretty simple. To achieve something great = you need power. And no, by explaining this does not mean I am an "Uchiha" fantard, just passionate about the manga itself.

Kaguya being introduced in the final act of Naruto is horrible storytelling rearing its ugly head at its finest. In other words, it's atrocious. Hey Mathwiz, I wanted to point out something that I hope you can elaborate on in your videos
    Everything that Madara predicted happened. He said that he knew that after Hashirama, Tobirama was bound to succeed him, and that the Senju would continue to rule Konoah forever.
    Look at what Happened. The student of Hashirama and Tobirama became the third. The student of The Third's student became the 4Th. The granddaughter of Hashirama, and the Student of the 3rd became the fifth. This pattern continued with the 6th and 7th.
    If you are not in the direct lineage of the Senju-via apprenticeship or blood, then you can't become hokage.
    The Hokage don't become Kage through hard work Alone. They are groomed by the sucessor's of the Senju in small 3-man squads, and then picked from there.
    Madara was right. These students aren't just inheriting the "Will of Fire", but also the "Will of the Senju".
    Madara saw this coming and tried to warn his clan, but they were blinded, and then disposed of later on.

    • @MathWizHQ
      @MathWizHQ  6 років тому +217

      That could make Boruto really interesting then, considering Sarada, an Uchiha, is the one with a strong desire to become Hokage, while Boruto has no desire to be Hokage. If that goal is eventually realized, which I imagine it will be, an Uchiha will be inheriting the Senju lineage, therefore defying Madara's prediction.

So, endgame would be the total destruction of the nation, by Washington. Which in theory would end up forcing pretty much the rest of the world to ally temporarily just to survive. Problem being, it would be temporary and every power involved would be working more towards their own advantage post battle than winning. Long term prognosis? Human civilization is thrashed on a global scale and whatever civilization(s) rise afterwards are focused more on figuring out how the feth George Washington pulled that off than on learning any real lessons about nation building.

    Kaguya actually fit the arc, if you think about it. Madara served to show that his worldview of negating duality wouldn’t work because he, himself was human and would be unable to cast aside his desire for violence. I agree that his arc felt incomplete: his defeat by Naruto and Sasuke after they received the powers of the sage’s sons would have shown that the duality in and of itself created unity, and that chakra did not lead to separation but unity. However, Madara’s flaw and incompatibility with his own plan existed not because of his flawed logic on chakra, but because Madara was human and had his own desire for conflict. This makes him imperfect, because it does not prove beyond reasonable doubt that casting aside duality was not the answer. His execution was poor. Kaguya served as a perfect vessel for the same ideal of rejecting duality because she had no hypocrisy. She had no desire for violence and fully committed and had the power to achieve the infinite tskuyomi. She had no humanity to cast aside. That’s why Naruto and Saskue’s victory over Kaguya by means of duality and chakra was much more meaningful than Madara’s defeat would have been. They defeated the perfect version of Madara’s vision, Madara without the desire for violence or power, without the humanity. Because two humans who had all of these beat her, it proved beyond reasonable doubt that the vision the infinite tskuyomi provided was inevitably the incorrect path. The perfect conditions and vessel of this plan were defeated by its “inferiors” by its own standards. It’s like the communism argument, that “nobody did it right yet” and that’s why it failed. Madara didn’t do it right, so his ideal held its own still. His execution could be theoretically be called into question. Kaguya essentially served as someone who “did it right” and proved it was the philosophy that failed.

    About time, a UA-camr finally explained madaras philosophy. I was getting tired, of constantly explaining to people, that madara could kill with the infinite tsukuyomi. he didn't do so, because he wanted to save the shinobi world. It was never his intention, infact, in his own way, he genuinely believed he was the savior. Instead of a placing the entire populace, in a nightmare realm. He placed them, in a dreamscape, an alternative reality, of no war, no pain and no suffering. Only peace, and their desires fulfillment. thanks for this video, I can just link it now honestly. Also, I can say that madaras love for battle is strong, but it wouldn't be a contradiction to his philosophy. infact, madara became powerful, because he wanted to protect people. that correlates to his ideology as well , remember that madara sacrificed his own people for this belief. the same clan, in which he became powerful in order to protect . its obvious, fighting wasn't going to make him think about it. or even hesitate in the slightest, wouldn't be a contradiction nor is it.

    I realize this is an old video but I feel that I have something to contribute to Kaguya’s merit that I never see discussed. Perhaps it will sway your view.
    Most of the villains in Naruto are simply a problem of the shinobi world that has manifested tenfold. I don’t really need to discuss this to a great extent since you’ve gone into it very thoroughly, but the reason I bring this up is because Kaguya and Zetsu are supposed to demonstrate how those problems started in the first place, whilst also touching on some other themes like what true peace is and playing off of Naruto’s goals.
    One of the concepts throughout Naruto is how love can force people into doing terrible things. The first instance of this to my knowledge is Hiruzen allowing Orochimaru to escape the village when he discovers his experiments. Itachi massacring the Uchiha clan himself because it would allow Sasuke to survive is another example of this. Danzo’s actions for Konoha’s wellbeing can also come under this category, albeit this one is harder to believe. Kaguya elaborates on this theme as well. Out of her love for her sons and also the world, she activated the Infinite Tsukuyomi to protect them from the other Otsutsuki clan members. Through her desire to protect Earth and humanity, she resorts to cruelty and ruling malevolently over the world to end all warfare. However, it is these actions that cause conflict to arise. In the anime, a salesman tells Hagoromo that people are starting to rebel against Kaguya’s cruelty and she immediately quells their movements as a response. We also see Hagoromo and Hamura rebel against Kaguya as well due to her tactics, which the anime elaborates on also.
    Through her sons’ betrayal, Kaguya’s love for them immediately begins twisting into hatred, which gives us a nice insight as to how the hatred in the shinobi world came to be. Pain talks about the cycle of hatred, but this only explains why hatred never really subsides and instead perpetuates. Kaguya’s interactions with her sons demonstrate how it’s created. The only other aspect of the show that I can remember that does this is Sasuke’s feelings towards Konoha after Itachi’s death, but this isn’t quite the same.
    Zabuza’s quote about shinobi being tools also comes back into play when Zetsu stabs Madara in the back stating he was merely a pawn as well, a parallel I think many people acknowledge. However Zabuza’s sentiment is also shown in its truest form via the end result of the Infinite Tsukuyomi; the creation of White Zetsus. White Zetsus are quite literally a tool in the purest form. They’ve been stripped of their original individuality and have been made to simply serve a purpose. Kaguya obviously wanted to use them to stop the other Otsutsuki, but the fact that Tobi used an army of them in the Fourth Shinobi World War to match the Allied Shinobi Forces further proves this point. Their creation could be compared to a shinobi conveyer belt almost. Unlike shinobi, who have dreams and goals of their own, their existence was to serve and nothing more, further showing Kaguya to be the cause of this concept as well.
    Kaguya also further cements the importance of Naruto and Sasuke’s final fight, specifically what it means to be Hokage and why it’s important Naruto fills that position. Earlier in the war, Itachi tells Naruto that the person who becomes Hokage doesn’t become acknowledged by everyone, but it’s the person who’s acknowledged by everyone who becomes Hokage. He tells him this to make sure he doesn’t lose sight of the value his comrades have and solely rely on his own power to bring about his dream. Kaguya represents the opposite of this. She attempts to impose her will onto others in order to bring about peace via her overwhelming power, but it amounts to nothing but conflict and misery. Instead of trying to understand everyone and get along in spite of their differences, she instead uses her power to force people into submitting to her point of view. This doesn’t create a maintainable peace, only a temporary one. So in a way, the form of peace Kaguya has created by forcing her will onto others is weaker than one that everyone mutually seeks. Naruto has brought nearly all his enemies around to his way of thinking by making them understand his point of view and attempting to understand theirs and find a rebuttal for it. The fact that he can do this do people who are in direct opposition to his viewpoint shows that he’s easily the most capable of being Hokage and bringing about peace to the shinobi world. It’s through Kaguya’s erroneous ways that we see why Naruto becoming Hokage is so important, because he could achieve peace via understanding as opposed to brute force. This also ties into the philosophies of Indra and Ashura, but that was more about how others can enhance your own strength rather than how it relates to peace.
    Where Kaguya’s hypocrisies lie are through her creation of Black Zetsu. Her arrogance in believing that only she could bring about peace and nobody else ended up creating the very thing she wished to get rid of; eternal conflict. Zetsu is responsible for further fuelling conflict in the shinobi world in order to bring about his mother’s revival. In a way, this ties back to what Madara said about the selfish desire for peace bringing about conflict, but where he was wrong in this is that peace can be attained without conflict through the way Naruto goes about it, which I mentioned earlier.
    My apologies if this is all over the place. I’m not good at articulating these sorts of things. I thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings and hope I changed your mind in some way.

    Madara's failure stems from his believe that since he's the strongest, his will and philosophie is truth. His unability to question his own believes his what always led to his downfall. Both his underlings, Nagato and Obito, while agreeing with some of his philosophie, saw through his insanity and never had any interest in following with the order to bring him back to life. If it wasn't for kabuto he would be alive during the 4th ninja war, and at the first chance he got betrayed by obito, as did his clan and best friend in his first live. He never dared to question his believes, because of his god complex. The irony is that madara, with all his power was just a pawn without even knowing it, shattering his own philosophie completly. He was never in controll, he was always the puppet for Nagato, Obito and Zetsu while he thought he was the player.

Even if Obito got rid of the curse tag on his heart like he did and Edo Madara was never revived, Black Zetsu would force the Rinne Rebirth by Obito like he did. Obviously events wouldnt play out the same way, but Black Zetsu had so much faith in Madara as a pawn he intentionally engineered Kabuto into resurrecting Madara. Madara had failsafes, and even if his failsafe of Zetsu wasnt what he thought it was, Zetsu likely would have revived him anyways somehow

The stuff about "cultivating those who would come after" is directly stated by Hashirama to a dying Madara, who then responds about hating having someone stand behind him. I think Kaguya served as the final history lesson of the series. With her came the series of events that led to Naruto and Sasuke, Indra and Ashura finding peace. She is the symbolism of Yin and Yang that became divided. With Kaguya, the worldbuilding was completed and everything factual was fleshed out.
    She is part of the grander scale in Naruto and in a series that is based on duality is the form of wholeness. Her story is where all the myth is derived from which I think provides a satisfying closing to the series (albeit the anime altering a few things for the worse in my opinion like proving her to be an alien). She is the beginning of the pendulum that sets all major events in the series and its lore from hagoromo and hamura to Naruto and Sasuke.
    I think there is a larger discussion to be had about Kaguya. Everyone has the right to say she was a poor final villian, but I don't see whats wrong with disagreeing with that thought like I do. Ultimately I believe Kaguya was a great concept with ideas that aren't discussed much to my knowledge, but was played out too quickly in a short time.

      Konstantin Ganchev It's a good thing and not a bad thing that Kaguya was considered as the root of the evil part in the shinobi world, how she wanted to create a world where peace exists. But still the reason why Kaguya became how she was is because first, she was rejected by tenji when he was making a choice between Kaguya or his village and second, when she ate the divine fruit (reference to the Apple where Adam and eve meet the snake), something in her changed, not only her power (horns and the third eye) but also, the actual way how she wanted to create the world she desired to.
      Those two reasons are the catalyst why Kaguya was considered as the root of evil, and black zetsu was the one, by her will, who manipulated the indra's generation (Uchiha side) and that's how it led to the situation with madara to the Akatsuki.

      Maybe. The podcast is a mix of our first impressions and an open-ended discussion that helps us gain a better understanding of the series we're talking about and what we think it was trying to do. If any particular subject stands out in the discussion, like Sasuke for Craftsdwarf or "Talk no Jutsu" for me, we might try to look into it more to form a more informed opinion of that subject.
      If someone wanted to hear my thoughts on Madara, for example, it's easier to recommend them this 12-minute video than a multiple hours-long podcast. That said, if nothing jumps out at me, I probably won't cover that series in a video like this. Bleach didn't really grab me, so I only have 1 idea that I'm considering making a video on, but even that video is a "maybe" at this point. Man, I'm not very good at giving short answers, am I?

    This analysis seems to be a criticism of Madara's character rather than his ideals, or his means rather than his ends. The first two points, that Madara required chakra in order to eliminate chakra, and that he loved fighting, are both completely out of his control. Additionally, he already viewed the world as corrupt and painful, so he likely had no qualms about causing more conflict in order to end it in the long term.
    The last one (which seems to be two) criticize his extreme paranoia, which prevents him from being a leader, and his lack of interest in his successors. The former isn't related to his ideology as much as it is to his personality, and is likely (as you mentioned) a product of his troubled past. The latter isn't a flaw in his ideology, but a logical conclusion based on it. He believed the world would always be locked in conflict, so he likely viewed his successors with despondency for the torment they'd have to endure. It made no difference to him what his successors believed unless they were willing to aid him in eliminating it (and Sasuke clearly wasn't).

    • @MathWizHQ
      @MathWizHQ  6 років тому +25

      I mean...I wasn't really "criticizing" him in a negative sense. My last video was about how many of the major antagonists contradicted themselves at one point or another, but how that was a deliberate narrative choice. As antagonists, they are meant to be defeated, and their hypocrisy was something that lead to their defeat.
      The first two points I mentioned are interesting facets of his character, not writing flaws. That his ideology (world peace) and personality (loves to fight) are at odds with one another is really cool. It's why I think he's a great character. Pretty much everything related to hypocrisy that I mentioned in this video, unless specified otherwise, are good things.

      I still don't get why this is a part of the hypocrisy series then. You do sound like you are criticizing Madara with the mere preface. The title is even named "The Contradictions of Madara Uchiha."
      I've watched the first Hope and Hypocrisy in Naruto, which was "In Defense of Talk no Justu."
      I believe this is all about confronting the characters' hypocritical or contradictory beliefs/views/perspectives on life & the world. But I've watched the whole video and I don't understand how Madara is a hypocrite or where the contradictions lie.
      Madara can like conflict, he can loathe it, he can feel any way he wants to feel about it, but it doesn't affect his beliefs (nor vice versa), because they're not in the same dimension. There is no contradiction. Whether he likes fighting or not is irrelevant to what he wants (his ultimate goal) unlike Neji, Gaara, and others... where what they actually want directing affects how they interact with their reality.
      ---- ---- ---- ----
      I guess it is actually fitting that Naruto and Sasuke don't defeat Madara. You can't really trump the fact that removing duality means to cause the world to lack opposites. Without good, there is no bad, and vice versa.
      The only way to defeat that is to make a valid case that the world has more good in it than bad, and that neutralizing would worsen that. But it's near impossible, if not impossible, to make such a case.

    • @DundG
      @DundG 5 років тому

      @@GrubKiller436 I guess the flaw doesn't lie in the contradiction between his personality and beliefs, because In guess he saw himself also as an product of the hypocritical world, but because he can't understand a world outside of duality.
      His whole existence was with duality and he thrived in it. He got one of the strongest Ninjas and fellt alive in a fight, while at the same time longed for Peace and equality.
      A Dream world is wrong for Humans, because it rejects the possibility to identify the hypocricy within and correct the flaw. No growth and no Goal! Humans need duality or they get miserable

    Kishimoto very often workes with the anime creators together, e.g. the episode with Kakashis face in the anime original, is actually legit his face. Its canon!!!!! :O
    So I imagine the two anime fillers with Kaguya to be canon as well. I think her hypocricy is literally the hypocricy of every over-protective mother. Mothers somehow develop this instinct of wanting to protect their kids from everything. So much that the kids find it hard to grow up and become independant and reliable people. I feel the need to put their kids into some kind of thick and soft ball of cotton to protect them from any harm. The children must learn from their parents mistakes, from their mothers experiences!... Even if its by good intentions, the kids are prevented from making their own experiences, from making their own mistakes.
    Thats why so often, especially sons, turn away from their mothers, annoyed, fed up and angry with her, which in turn hurts the mother. In some cases it hurts her to the degree of a heart break, "how could my own flesh and blood betray me?" and such nonsense.
    I have such a mother, and some of my friends also have this type of mothers. I turned my back on her some time ago, however, since she is sick and will die in the near future because of cancer I decided to come back and let her have some happy moments before she leaves this world. After that I will be free, not exactly the kind of free I wished but ok, its the circle of life....
    I guess Kishimoto might have created Kaguya out of his own experience with his mother....Maybe not, who knows.

    This analysis makes me feel really stupid. While I got that talk no jutsu was about addressing hypocrisy, I never recognized the overarching theme of Naruto talking his opponents into recognizing those hypocrisies and it was really a realignment of belief/behavior that ultimately changed them rather than that they just appreciated Naruto's tenacity and recognition of their better natures. And that not just individual hypocrisy but hypocrisy, itself, was Madara's motivation: mind blown a little. I mostly didn't like the ending because it seemed to keep pulling deus ex machina left and right and the power creep had gotten to the point of ridiculousness, made it hard to know what the show was trying to say through all the noise.
    Damn. I've been wanting to go through Naruto and create an abridged version that cut out so many flashbacks and such, but now I'm recognizing there's actually a lot more of the story and themes I need to understand to actually do an abridgment the justice it would deserve... which is even more work on top of rewatching hundreds of episodes... Phew. That'll probably never happen, haha.

    Madara is right. There is no other way to make peace until you control the people. This gives rise to the issue of free will. But mankind is just born for conflict, no one wants to adjust, no one wants good for other but rather for themselves. Peace can only be achieved if it is controlled or if we all become Buddha. Man's ego and peace cannot coexist and man; all of us, we have ego. We can control it, but we can't get rid of it. That is why Madara is my second husbando after Kakashi.

    Some great observations and this is a really excellent series of videos.
    I think Kaguya does fit in thematically far better than you suppose here -but perhaps not into the way you're looking at things in this series.
    Perhaps the biggest absence here is that Madara is the most obvious hypocrite in the series. Its all about his colossal egotism, perhaps because he has lost all his connections to others so the only thing he can serve is himself.
    You never get the impression that Madara is benevolent no matter how much he tries to rationalize himself. He prides himself on the power he attains and on manipulating and deceiving others. There's never any doubt that what leads him down the path to the Infinite Tsukuyomi is jealousy over not being made Hokage and an inability to forgive the death of his brother. It's always all about him.
    That he turns out to have been entirely unimportant and merely a pawn being manipulated by someone else, someone still far more powerful than he ever was, is the ultimate humiliatiion for Madara. He is defeated as if he were a footnote -and that's the point.
    Kaguya is the end point of Madara's megalomania. She's alreeady done everything he was trying to do and did bring peace to the world. The people she brought peace to became White Zetsu -mindless slaves who obey every whim of a dictator. Like Madara she became corrupted by the power and it became all about her.
    She doesn't return to save the world but for vengeance and she constantly sees Naruto and Sasuke as the sons who betrayed her. It's the sting of that betrayal that drives her and we see yet again the cycle of love, hatred and venegance.
    I suspect there's probably a lot more to be said there -but I'm not equipped to do so at this time.
    Sasuke is an interesting contrast with Madara. Like Madara Sasuke wants to rule the world after the war but instead of it being all about himself it's all about denying himself -it's an act of self-sacrifice for him to become a dictator. He wants to be like Itachi and Hashirama -the 2 people who turned him around from the descent into insanity he'd been in after he lerned the truth about Itachi (and of course ultimately Naruto will finish the process those 2 started just as Itachi predicted).
    So in contrast to Gaara's destructive selflessness early on you have a very dangerous form of selflessness.
    Those who let down their friends are trash so Madara is because he betrayed his clan and his friend and Hashirama is because in order to fulfil his mission of preserving the village he murdered his friend. Likewise Itachi.
    The paradox of love runs right through the series in every arc in one form or another. The lack of it and isolation creates Naruto and in a worse case Gaara whose selfishness becomes incredibly destructive. Yet when attachments are made there is the potential for loss and betrayal which in turn can fuel hatred and destruction.
    This series of vids has done a great job of showing how Naruto overcomes philosophical challenges by exposing his antagonists hypocrisy but I suspect that is part of a larger whole rather than the whole itself.
    I don't think the series is anything like as optimistic as you suppose. Throughout, while Naruto may expose the hypocrisies of individuals the greater problem of the paradox remains. Nagato may come to realise that he has betrayed his own ideals but the prpblem remains and all they have is hope. So hope is definitely important but far more desperate than optimistic.
    The alternatives of various forms of dictatorship, even in the form of self sacrifice adopted by Sasuke and Hashirama rather than the selfish versions of Obito, Madara and Kaguya, are 'short cuts' shown to be even worse than the 'hard road' of seeking 'peace in a positive way' through mutual understanding.
    Perhaps you could view that as a defence of the status quo and an indictment of revolutionist politics though I'm not convinced that's the intended perspective (and the Infinite Tsukuyomi pandering to the selfish desires of those caught in it only for the end result for them to become mindless slaves as White Zetsu can easily be interpreted as a condemnation of the excesses of consumerism and market capitalism).
    Either way, I think that, yes, hope is extremely important but one of the things that is most respectable in Naruto is that it doesn't come up with an easy answer. Its characters live on to keep trying to find the best path but the the fundamental problem remains unresolved. ..and while that's far from optimistic it is pretty cool.
    In any event I'm very sorry that I didn't watch these videos sooner. Very stimulating.

    This video did a lot to make me reevaluate my opinion of Madara’s impact and quality as a villain. While I always thought he was cool and menacing, I didn’t think he had the same thematic weight or personal resonance that Sasuke, Pain, or even Orochimaru had. He was presented as too powerful right at the outset, we didn’t really get a feel for his true motivations, and his hypocrisy to me was blatant and detracted from his character.
    This video, along with going back to the episodes with his origin with Hashirama, changed my mind drastically. Now I can see why those things were included into his characters and how it helps tie up the overall story and themes of Naruto in the end. Really glad I gave him a second chance.
    Thanks for uploading such thought provoking, well researched content. Looking forward to future videos of yours.

    That’s so sad, in a way. The peace that Madara really wanted and fought for wasn’t a complete peace, and he lost faith in it. It takes a lot of work and consistent communication and compromise to maintain healthy, thriving cultures peacefully. I think he thought negotiations for peace would fail because of the prejudice against his clan, but taking the ninja world by force wasn’t justified either. It would have taken years to fix the problem between the Uchiha and the Senju, but it could have been solved or partly solved eventually. Instead he spent those years to start a war and erase ninjas, pretty extra, honestly, but also depressing because he had no hope for reconciliation with his village or Hashirama.

    You've made a mistake here I feel, a common one that I see many people make: You called Kaguya the final boss of the series but she wasn't, the final boss was Sasuke. After all the story didn't end with her defeat it ended only after the central conflict between Sasuke and Naruto was resolved. So she shouldn't be thought of as such.
    Talking about the end of Madara's arc and his defeat, you may be right in your analysis, my thoughts on this are not yet fully formed. Though I do feel like the betrayal and revelation of manipulation at the hands of Zetsu, right down to Zetsu throwing Madara's own words to Obitio back in his face was a fitting end for his character and revealed his fatal flaw: hubris.

    Kaguya and black zetsu are personifications of the x factor pulling humans towards ruin(think something like original sin). If Madara hypocrsy is caused by the duality of man and Naruto is able to rectify these problems what is factor pushing towards distruction? Kaguya( and black zetsu by extension) is the flawed nature of man itself, the root of which all problems spring from or the temptings of a devil which man has to directly comfront in order to make real change.
    Naruto and Sasuke both aim to remove the issue which is in the very fiber of the world the live in so they fight Kaguya together. After dealing with this problem they each bring forth their own vison for how the world should be from now on and fight.
    ...This is how I see it but I might be overreaching.

      The thing is Kaguya is still alive in Boruto and can make a return.
      Its been confirmed that there are mutlipe Otsutsuki clan members who are stronger than kaguya.
      And whit this Naruto and Sasuke wont stand a chance against them,so they may en up unsealing Kaguya from the seal.
      Just like how Ichigo freed Aizen to fight Yhwach, because that was his only choice.

      1. That really doesn't have anything to do with my point as the phenomenon which I claim Kaguya/Black zetsu personify don't ever go away just change form.
      2. Naruto and Sasuke have proven to be as strong as Otsutsuki clan members in "Naruto the last" and Boruto so they don't need Kaguya's help.
      3. Kaguya's seal requires the combination of all 9 tailed beast to make the juubi in order to re-perform the Infinite Tsukuyomi which would requaire the death of B and Naruto.
      4. Ichigo didn't release Aizen, Shunshi did.

      Sahin vert, What?... "Kaguya is still alive in Boruto" ... It is stated in the official Info books (By Kishimoto) that Kaguya is dead.
      They would literally have to go though what Black Zetsu did (God tree - Chakra of a entire planet - all tailed beasts - Host)
      They would NEVER do such a thing from either side, since Kaguya betrayed Otsutsuki(Stated in Boruto) and Momoshiki was going to punish her (Stated in Boruto)
      And as Hazz said, Shunsui freed Aizen, not Ichigo.

      Hazz Emperor
      Okay theb why did they release Aizen from the seal?
      Isnt Aizen the biggest enemy?
      The same goes for Kaguya.
      If the Otsutsuki clan is so strong that they cannot do 1 thing.
      The 5 kages will agree to revive Kaguya.
      Just read the the bleach manga they released Aizen to fight Yhwach,because that was their only option.
      And also Naruto forgives his enemy no matter how bad he or she is.
      Remember Obito killed Naruto parents and Naruto called Obito he is the coolest guy.
      So I can definitly see Kaguya coming back in Boruto.
      Eternal Hokage also made a video that kaguya is gonna return in boruto go wacth that video

And the people who don't have to bend over backwards to justify why it's fair. And the people who did have to justify why it's fair for them to inflict suffering in others to even the scales. Call me stupid but I have just now realized that those connecting properties of chakra, used for Ninshu are what allows Naruto to communicate with people in a strange void after intense clashes. I mean I figured that it was the case with Juubito, I just never connected it to other instances, especially with Naruto mostly just using focussed chakra (Rasengan, Bijudama) instead of more artificial handsign/element based ones like they are common in Ninjutsu.
    Maybe Kishi did not think of that but I think he did and even if not it works for me.

      damn, now my mind is burning, guess that's a good thing ...
      im wondering if the ninshu concept is being laid out in boruto to be on the bowl of underlying themes to be more delved in, given : the premise sent on start about a disruption on the ninja society foundations (at least in the function of ninjutsu as defense resource as well as the place of shinobi on this new world);
      and the way boruto's eye is portrayed, which is wayy too soon to have any consistent interpretation given the few instances of it, but I guess it is something more close to the ninshu realm than the ninjutsu one [to being able to grasp emotional information rather than "physical" ( in contrast to the other eye power functions), as naruto acquired in a deeper level when he learned the toad's sage skills)
      anyway, these are just my raw thoughts, so its quite a mess😐
      thanks for the hard work wiz, its wonderful to get this kind of inspiration to think more onto a show that I'm following for so much time

    I would argue that Hashirama also contradicted himself in his pursuit to bring peace between his clan & the Uchicha BUT failed to see how separating them from the village would ultimately lead to conflict
    In the end (leading up to Kaguya zzz zzz) both Hashirama & Madara came to realize how flawed their philosophies were. Madara especially, seeing how it was built on a lie.

      Tia Aaron Yeah he was a powerhungry bastard and it may seem hypocritical that this man is striving for peace, but in fact with this realization that humans, including himself, always will having conflicts made him believe that there is this is the cold reality of the human nature. However with the infinite Tsukuyomi there was a way to avoid reality and creating an illusion where no one has by defintion any problem. Everyone has his own personal ideal world without colliding to others. There is no difference between illusion and reality if you aren‘t aware of it. That‘s a flawless philosophy.

    Great video, although I would not expect too much out of Boruto. From what I have heard the authors still have not decided what exactly Borutos eye does, after like two years, which sounds like bad planning. Granted the Sharingan had a bunch of stuff added later on, but in general it felt like Kishimoto knew what the dojutsu he introduced were supposed to do.
    On another topic I think Narutos Sexy Jutsu might have it's roots in Journey to the West. Sun Wukong uses clones and transformations a lot, including to transform into women. Admittedly I have not read the book itself, just could not make time for a 2000 page novel, but there is a channel named Overly Sarcastic Productions that does neat summary videos, I would recommend them.

    • @umor9014

      I know that Kishimoto and Kodachi both work on Boruto which is why I have said authors in plural. I also would not really call portals a Rinnegan power since just Sasuke can use them and he does not exactly have a normal Rinnegan. Obitos Mangekyo Sharingan could also create portals.
      While we have seen some of the Jougans abilities that does not mean that they have a good grip on it's power or a clear picture of it's full abilities.
      The illustrator for Boruto said that the decision to do the flash-forward at the start was done pretty rashly, without them knowing exactly how they will get there
      www.spirallingsphere.com/2017/11/boruto-mangas-illustrator-mikio-ikemoto-talks-about-the-big-flash-forward-event-more-interview/
      There was also appearently an animator on the anime saying that that they had not really thought of what the Jougan does, although that was as of episode 15
      ua-cam.com/video/nQoNwNCh__Q/v-deo.html
      Honestly imo they have used dojutsu inflationary with the Tenseigan, Jogan, Ketsuryugan with haphazardly slapped together skill sets. I also do not like the mystery box approach with the Jougan.

      Neon Genesis Evangelion popularised the idea of a blissful, yet static and ultimately wrong collective. It shows up in many variances over a lot of anime, including Naruto, Bleach, Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Eureka Seven, Yu-Gi-Oh, Digimon and many more.
