So as many of you know I dyed my hair purple recently. If you didn't see my Snaps/Instastory (...I see how it is....) then you would of missed me talking about how I wanted to go silver ever since I had a dream where my hair was silver. Anyways, wouldn't you know it but the universe a couple weeks later would sent me some L'Oreal Colorista - now that's freaking serendipitous if you ask me. Next thing I know I'm dying my hair, at home, by myself with absolutely no experience. THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS I DID THIS ALL BY MYSELF!
In this video I share with you a couple really good tips and tricks on how to do this at home. Make sure to take your time, half the work when coloring your hair is prep so be patience. I'm also going to list a bunch of good tips on my website for you so make sure to check those out as well.
If for some reason you thought this was going to be another makeup tutorial you are sadly mistaken my friend but fret not, here is one of my recent previous video - ▷goo.gl/F5Q9cG
Although ONE Instagram post for this L'Oreal Colorista campaign was sponsored this video was certainly NOT. I am not getting paid for this video however once I posted the sponsored photo everyone asked me how I did it and well lets just say I'm glad I filmed my process.

I’ve been using coloristas for nearly four years. Super easy and fun. I love how it fades and changes over time. Your hair looks gorgeous and your tutorial was very informative and helpful.
Thank you so much! Glad you found it so helpful!
I used it and not even 1% color changed :(
So I add it to my hair and wait for 30 mins then wash ??? Or dry with a dryer???
@@emanfarouk8905 Basically. But it works best on blonde hair. Either natural or bleached
This is actually more useful than most professional tutorials.
yay so happy to hear that! thank you!
super helpful!
I tried dying my hair for the first time today according to your vid and it worked out really good!
so glad to hear that!
I've watched a few tutorials in the past 3 years, and this is the BEST. Also, your hair is beautiful and healthy. I love the tip with the tiny elastics. I used Colorista around Xmas, and ready to do it again. Thanks so much. ~ signed, a blue-haired old woman from Canada. XD
This is a great idea with the ties. I plan on doing teal and burgundy at the end of this week before my trip. I was trying to figure out a good way to do both. I might try this!! Your hair looks fab!!
Molly.x yay!! Glad it helped and to be of service!
Absolutely love your hair!!
Thanks darling!
You are very beautiful! And your hair too! Amazing result 👍🏼
Thanks darling! You are too kind!
I dyed my hair with indigo l'oreal paris dye and it turned out great! But the next day i washed it with color safe shampoo and it tu
rned into different shades of blue, icy blue, teal, turquiose
Hey! Yes, it will fade every time you wash it - that is normal - but eventually, it will just stay a teal color and won't fade anymore.
I love this ❤
Thank you!
Hey how long does this will stay.. And if I put it on for long time will it give more darker color!?
i used the same hair dye color it turned my hair green after like 3 weeks and it would not come out i had to get it bleached and it was still there.after i got it bleached it was like mint green then i dyed my hair hot hot pink from manic panic and it was blond again,i love the color of the dye i just wish the green would come out
Hey girl! I had a similar issue but I died my hair auburn after
Damn gorgeous ! 👌🏻❤🍯🔥🙈 can't wait to dye my hair today pink !! 😍

I used blue and my hair is bleached blonde and my natural white, silver, and grey at my age of 65 years. My half of long bangs I like to curl into corkscrew curl is the only part I dyed with this same product you used. My hair is no blue at all. It is lilac light purple. 20 minutes left on to dry harden, then I used blue shoppers drug mart #3 light blue shampoo. So with yellow hair bleached and natural streaks of white, grey, silver turned lilac.
Absolutely love, thank you sooo much for sharing am going to try cross fingers but definitely not a pro like you as I will definitely mess something up and You did it more than perfection and clean! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks lady! I am not a pro tho! This was the first time I have ever dyed my own hair but I definitely made sure to ask my hair dresser what plan of action I should take. Glad you found this video useful! Let me know if you have any questions!
this is cool, good job!
Thanks Hun!!!
This color looks gorgeous on you!
THANK YOU!!!! I really loved it too!
i am so exciteeed im going to dye my hair DENIM BLUEE
I’d love to see how it turns out! Tag me on IG @isthatsoh so I can have a look!
Last year my colorista washout was indigo but it faded to teal. Now I want to purple colorista but I’m really nervous about it .Will it fade to teal or run of ? Please help me
I use the lilac or a mixture of lilac and pink and I put a handful of it thru my freshly washed wet (40% gray ) hair with my fingers....and I love it. Oh and I dont wash it out. I put leave in conditioner over the top of it. Lasts 3 shampoos usually.
Dianne M well done girl! Wish I could see it
Love your video & hair!
Thank you so much Iris!
very helpful! Thanks!!
You’re welcome!
it turned out really well :)
thank you so much
I have blonde highlights my hair is like dirty blonde and will this ruin my hair I’m scared to use this I don’t want my hair to get ruined 😬
Hey do it also work with dark hair?(It's a very dark brown) ❤️
I am not 100% sure but I would say that it doesn't work as well, however, I do know that there are some colours meant for darker hair colours. These ones are meant for lighter hair colours.
it was l'oreal colorista blue or purple? because the result is purple but the bottle was blue
Daenerys - I used three colours to create this look! Purple, indigo and icy blue
Hey great question. I actually used three colours, icy blue, indigo and purple - I interchanged them to create the cool-tone unicorn look
i’m dying my natural never been coloured hair with this tomorrow will it wash out completely or will i have to dye it 😩😩
how did it go lol
Hi I was wondering if It actually washes out and if your real hair color will return after
Hi love. It did wash out/fade but it didnt go back to exactly what it was before. I had a hard time getting it fully out at the ends (where it was previously more blonde). I ended up having to go to my hair dresser and getting them to dye it to get rid of any traces of the remaining colorista colour.
Oh ok thanks
@@isthatsoh what color did it fade to? Was it still blue or green/red?
yes i died my whole head purple a week ago and it’s already back to normal as you can see I have the top and then three sections on the side and actually two more sections below which is that the back
Hey, How long did it take to completly wash it out?
Hi Anca! It didnt totally fade out. You can see how it faded on my Instagram -> instagram.com/p/BYmD7Z-Fe0b/?taken-by=soheilaonline. I tried using Palmolive (yes I mean the dish soap, I was told by a hairdresser it was really good at striping hair of colour) to get it out along with some other stuff but alas it didn't completely fade out. Thankfully it was fall and I was looking to go auburn for a couple months which actually looked really nice and totally got rid of the any traces of blue.
Amazing hair ❤
Thank you so much!
Can I wash it out with only water or I should use shampoo?
When i washed it out the first time I only used shampoo! v

My hair is dark brown. If i dye my hair and wash it, will i go back to my natural colour? Because I’m very scared of losing my natural hair colour
I’m sorry I’m not sure what the results are for darker hair. I have never tried it on dark hair
I love your hair now I’m gonna color my hair later
Thank you! I'd love to see how your hair turns out! Send me a photo on IG @isthatsoh!
Soheila Hakimi sure thank you 😘😘
Love the color! Currently trying the purple Colorista, but it keeps turning out poorly. Probably my hair is too dark (darker blonde shade) for a proper result. Only when the lighting hits right, a subtle purple glow is seen. Really disapponting :(
Yea, you're probably right. It's not a perfect product and seems to be more effective when you have lighter hair to begin with. If you find something else that works better for you please let me know!
heey i just want to ask i have very dark brown or you can say black and i want to bleach my hair with colorista bleach so how many times do i have to bleach my hair so that purple (colorista color ) would be seen on my hair sorry for my bad english
Hi! I am not sure to be honest because I have never used the colorista bleach! I am definitely curious to know so if you have success please let me know.
Did this fade blue at all? I'm afraid of some purple dyes cause they fade to blue, then green (cause blonde) and its so gross. Great video! xo
Yes it did - you can see how it faded on my Instagram -> instagram.com/p/BYmD7Z-Fe0b/?taken-by=soheilaonline. I tried using Palmolive (yes I mean the dish soap, I was told by a hairdresser it was really good at striping hair of colour) to get it out along with some other stuff but alas it didn't completely fade out. i used the purple many times and i did not fade blue on me...
I've used this one so many times and it faded but not to blue or green.. it was just more of a pastel color. And my hair is blonde blonde.
Claudia Fernandez that’s great! I used three colours - indigo, icy blue and purple so it faded a teal colour
Heather Guthery your lucky! I used three colours so maybe it was the combo or one of the colours in particular like the indigo that turned by hair teal
Hello! I want to dye my hair a teal color but i have really dark hair:( do i have to bleach it? I have used the red colorista and it turned out pretty good but i really dont know about the blue one..
Hi! I think your best bet is to try it on a small section at the nape of your neck to see how it holds before doing the whole head. I can't really answer your question because I had blonde hair when I dyed mine and never tried when I had dark hair. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
@@isthatsoh it's okay i understand! Thank you so much for answering me❤
Youre so pretty OMG💕💗😍
Tarohikaru Iwagaya thank you so much 😘😘😘
Hey, 🌈🦋👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 you look pretty with these colours in your hair ☺️☺️☺️. Please Which colours did you use?
Hi! I used three different colours! Icy Blue, Indigo and Purple!
Soheila Hakimi thank you so much ☺️❤️
I have blonde hair and I would like to dye it with a washout dye. But I read that you had to dye it back to blonde. Doesn’t it vanish completely? I only want to look “crazy” for a week! 😜
Hi Astrid!!! So you can probably tell from the video but I was blonde at the bottom and darker on top. The colour faded from the top no problem but the bottom was different. One of the colours (I suspect the indigo) would not wash out fully and actually turned my hair teal. The purple and icy blue I felt faded out easier on the blonde. You can see how it faded on my Instagram -> instagram.com/p/BYmD7Z-Fe0b/?taken-by=soheilaonline.
How much time does the color last?
Congrats for the amazing video!
it usually fades each wash as its not a permanent hair dye
I have a question. Is mixing conditioner with the hair dye gonna make the color not stay? Because I did this last night but the color is barely there
Conditioner will dilute the colour. Kind of like adding white paint to pastel paints 😊😊

I’m doing purple at my tips and I have dirty blonde hair do you know if it would turn put dark purple or lighter purple?
R Roo i’m doing that tomorrow too sammmeee. tell me how yours turns out
It’s hard to say! Maybe try on a small piece first to test it? How did it turn out?
Wooooo!
thanks baby girl
Did it fade to green and if so was it kinda cute?
it faded to a teal color which I personally didn't love as much as the purple but it definitely didn't look bad. Getting back to blonde though was a big process and took me a better half of a year.
Do you shampoo hair first before you use the L’Oréal dye
No, I did not! I just applied to my 2-3 day old hair!
Right i was wondering that too. The direction ls say to wash and towel dry
How long it can stay and how minutes we should apply on hair
Maheen Angel the video shows that I set my timer for 30 minutes but the purple stayed in for maybe 3-4 washes before it transitioned to more or a teal colour - I had to dye it to get it fully out
Hi! I have brown hair, and i wanna dye it purple. Is this collor gonna work for my hair, or not?
Roos Waanders Hi! Some of the colors I used are better for blonde! I would use those colors recommend for dark or brown hair! Hope that helps!
hey how long does the dye last for with darker hair? i only want it dyed pink for 3 weeks before i go back to school cos i don't want an automatic detention. also what products help the dye to fade when absolutely necessary?
lucy k i think there is a shampoo that helps take the colour out but tbh my hair went from this purple to teal and I never got it funny out without going to the hair dresser and professionally dying it out
Soheila Hakimi - IsThatSoh thank you so much! Loved the colour in you hun x
lucy k anytime girl! Feel free to subscribe! Got a lot of new videos in the pipeline 😋
I have light brown to medium brown hair and I'm afraid it will be a disaster. What do you suggest?
Hey! If you are worried I would consult a local hair care professional. I have blonde hair so it was easier to see the colour where I feel if you have brown hair the colour wont come out as intense. Sorry I cant be of more help
hello you look great !please answer me I am pregnant can I use it ?
Unfortunately I don't think I can answer this question - I am not a physician. My recommendation would be to show the ingredients to your doctor.
The product was left on for half hour my first time and it was slightly hued the second time I left it two hours it was better I have shades of grey with a light purple hue to it
yes I think everyone's hair can be different but it sounds like you had lovely results
Did it wash out completely back to how it was before
Hi Jenn! No it didnt. It turned this teal colour. I think it was the dark indigo colour that was the hardest to get out. you can see how it faded on my Instagram -> instagram.com/p/BYmD7Z-Fe0b/?taken-by=soheilaonline. I tried using Palmolive (yes I mean the dish soap ) as I was told by a hairdresser it was really good at striping hair of colour but alas it didn't fade out completely. Thankfully it was fall and I was looking to go auburn so I just dyed it a new colour! hope that helps!
thx for the reply.
dd-the-wierdo 5427 no problemo! That’s what I’m here for!!
Quick question to anyone out there... So I have natural Blonde highlights, and I don't want to lose them. If I use this product will I lose the highlights? Also, how long does it take to get the dye out of blonde hair?
By the way, LOVE the video, your hair is so pretty!
My hair was originally processed blonde so I can't really comment on what would happen to natural blonde but mine never returned to the same as it was before. It went more a teal colour and then I had to go auburn, brown and then work my way back to blonde with a professional hair colourist in order to get my original blonde colour again
@@isthatsoh Wow, that was a very quick response, so thank you for that! At least now I have something to consider now! Thank you!
@@gau_em20 you're welcome! glad I could help.
Heya 👋🏼👋🏼
Hairdresser here, I would say to test a strand of your natural highlights and see how it washes out for the next few washes.
Natural hair is not as porous (thirsty) as bleached/processed hair and won't hold onto temporary colour as well as pre-lightened hair.
Temporary colours such as this are only colour deposits, it's premixed colour that sits on top of your hair shaft. Typical box dyes will have something you mix with which is something that opens up your hair shaft to apply the colour rather than simply place it on top 😊😊
If you're super worried about staining, you can add conditioner to the colour before applying. This will dilute the colour more, kind of like adding white paint to pastel paint 😊😊
Hope this helps you out too!
better to start w super clean hair or day old?
allison w. I started with dirty/day old!
Thank youuuuu helpful
Glad you found it so helpful!!!
does it work on dark hair? black or dark brown?
I don’t think it will be as effective on dark hair as it will be on light hair
How long does this product take to fade out ?
So mine never fully faded out! It actually turned my blonde into a teal colour but it took about 2-3 washes for it to go from purple to teal.
after how many washes are taken?
Hey! The colour you see in the video was after the first dye and wash. It took about 4 washes for the purple to fade. I found after the purple fades out it goes to a light teal colour. You can see pictures on my Instagram of what it looked like teal.
Hope that helps!
How many bottles did u use?
Catherine Saunders one bottle of each color (3 colors total) was enough and I have really thick hair
love you
Kate Lewis awe thank you! You are too sweet! Thank you for stopping by 💕
Would it work on medium brown hair
Madelyn Smith I think it does but maybe the colours are more subtle
Thank you so much
How long does it last ?❤
depends on how often you wash your hair really - I would say two-three washes but it fades to a teal colour not fully out.
@@isthatsoh Ok thanks btw ily❤
Does this color work on dark hairr?!!!!
I’m sure it does a little but not as well as light hair.
if it gets on your head will it stain it?
I think so which is why I was diligent about wiping off any dye right away. I did stain my neck a little though, but after a couple washes it went away.
natalya I know I’m late but it’s easy to wash out I mean I had it everywhere 😂😂 neck/legs/hands just everywhere
But the furniture not so well if u stain it your screwed (can get on skin but no furniture or ur screwed)
which one did you use
I used three colours, indigo, purple and icy blue
well come
Hey girl, thanks for the video.
The blonder you are the better it takes. However, I let it stay in for at least 1,5 hour. Than it will be way better
oh really! I didn't leave it that long but great tip!
I just tried it and i left it for 30 minutes and after i washed it there was...nothing??? like it didn’t work AT ALL
whattt!! That's crazy! I have never heard of that happening before. Maybe your product is defective? Id return it for a new one
U can use Vaseline on neck so it's easy to wipe off
Thank you for the tip!
How long lasting?
It never faded out fully for me. It turned what previously was my blonde highlights a teal color and I had to get them professionally recorrected.
Doesn’t work on me my hair is too dark maybe?
Emina Alihodzic yes I think these colors are meant for blonde hair
You are so beautiful💓
Thank you 💛💛 u just made my day
How the intro is called please?
Sorry? I am not sure what you mean
Is there any damage?
Hi Mina, the condition of my hair itself didn't change (it was blonde and I added the colour on top) when using the colorista but when I had to dye it back to blonde later there was of course some damage.
Does it work on black hair?
No, unfortunately I do not think it will work on black hair. You would have to bleach it first.
@@isthatsoh oh ok dear. Between you are beautiful. 😍😘
Can you go in a swimming pool with dyed hair?
Dr.FuzzyBum hey! So I would go swimming but maybe try not to get your hair wet by putting it up. This is semi permanent hair dye which means it slowly washes out with every wash. If you go swimming chances are the dye will fade quicker if it gets wet! Hope that helps!
Soheila Hakimi thank you!
Nice
Thank you!
Does this work on brown hair?
Emily Alsayed hey Emily! I think it doesn’t but it’s not as vibrant... there are L’Oréal Colorista dyes especially for darker hair so maybe check those out for reference. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
Soheila Hakimi thank you!💗
The instructions I have said to apply dye on towel dried hair, but you def did on dry hair. Hmm... so confused!
that is weird... you are correct I used the dye on dry hair. Not sure why it told you to do it on towel dried hair. I actually even ask my hair dresser what she thought the best way to go about it would be and doing it on dry hair is what she suggested as well so that is definitely odd. Sorry I cant help you more.
Thanks for giving me your thoughts. The actual tube of dye said to do on DRY hair, but step one in the paper instructions clearly said "step 1, wash and towel dry hair" "step 2, apply".
I also saw another youtube tutorial where she applied to damp hair!?
anyway - appreciate your input - your hair turned out gorgeous the way you did it!

I tried today exactly following your video, I have exactly same highlights as you at the bottom.. not even the single hair took colourista’s colour.. I am now sure you have used actual colour or dye... your video is really useful in terms of application but not the product.
Hi Hun! I'm sorry to hear that. You are actually not the first person to tell me that they had issues with the colour adhering to their hair but most of them admittingly had darker hair than me in this video. Perhaps your product is defective or perhaps they changed the formula for the product since this video was filmed over 5 years ago... honestly I am not sure but I think you should return the product for a refund or ask for a new one as it may be defective. Best of luck!

@@darien3867 nice! well i'm glad I could be of service in some way and I hope it turns out the way you hope for !
Okay but I just have to point out, you're better off rinsing with NO shampoo. You're not trying to wash it out...you're just rinsing. And rinsing in COLD water is the best thing to do. It closes the hair follicle and helps the color not fade as fast as hot water. Cold is also not as harsh on your hair and will help the softness and shine. Not sure who told you conditioner will fade your hair but shampoo won't? That's very false info. Also washing your hair only a few times a week is ideal. ESPECIALLY with this brand since it's not the best quality and will fade faster than a lot of salon brands. And looking for a shampoo/conditioner that is color safe and sulfate free is your best bet! :) Really though, there is no need to shampoo it out of your hair, and all that will really do is start the fade that much sooner. So when you're getting the dye out...JUST RINSE. NO NEED TO SHAMPOO THAT SOON! (No, I am not a "trained professional", I have however been coloring mine and friends hair at home for over ten years using both drug store and salon products -these days pretty much just salon products)
Interesting perspective! Thanks for sharing.
