Do not use dexron in the Honda automatics, will do damage.Use the OEM Honda ATF it calls for
you can use this: amzn.to/3ADmTyJ
@@bundysgarage hi. I have 2011 honda pilot LX 4WD. I want to do my transmission service but i don't know if my transmission has a filter. Can u help me with that. Please thank you
@@bundysgarage no point. Use what Honda recommends.
I ran Dex 6 for years in my old beater. It actually fixed some issues lmao.
You DO NOT have to use the OE Honda ATF. Valvoline makes a great substitute. you can use this: amzn.to/3ADmTyJ
Nice video brother, very well detailed on how to change the filter, unlike other youtubers.
You speak really good Spanish .
The mdx also has a small transmission filter that’s hooked up to the cooler lines. Sits on top of the transmission. The best thing for these honda transmissions is to drain/fill 3-4 quarts per year. It’s the best insurance. The service manual’s transmission service interval is way too long. The fluid should be changed often and remain pink/red.
Thanks for the tip!
Was the old filter unable to flow clean fluid to the torque converter?
Pretty much!
@@bundysgarage do you think it's critical to change the filter in contrast to merely changing the fluid?
@@bundysgarage ???
dam bro, the underside of that car was filthy it obviousely has either an oil leak or transmission lek, all that greasy crap is not under my 2005 honda accord that has 210,000 miles, it is clean as new ?
Was the transmission fluid ever changed?
Will not changing it cause leaks in a long run?
How do I find out if my car has a filter? I have a 12 civic ex with 1.8l. I have drained fluid many times. Also what mileage....should u drain fluid? I know it takes like 3 times to get all of it out.
Any OEM parts online vendor should have IPC's and you should be able to find it out by punching in your vehicle model.
Some auto manufacturers say the ATF is good for life, which isn't true (most people sell their cars before it needs ATF change). If someone is planning to keep a car for a long time, ATF needs to be changed at every 30K to 40K miles. What happens is that old fluid forms deposits inside if not changed regularly, and introducing clean ATF would melt/dislodge those deposits, which eventually clogs up fluid passages and renders an ATX inoperative. It only takes a tiny piece of FOD to make ATX inoperative.
Some shops have cycling machine with which you do not need multiple drain & fill procedure. I would let such shops do the job as modern ATX is like clockwork.
@@JPN850R thank you been doing every 30-40 k
I always wondered where the filter as located, you just saved me a lot of time, thank you.
please tell me that vehicle has over 500,000 miles on it ? wow it was in bad shape for sure, all that sludge allover the underside of it ?
I find it concerning that you don't do anything to clean the area around where your working to prevent foreign debris from entering places it shouldn't.
Just a little spray cleaner & air goes a long way.
Those 5sp autos are notorious for going bad. You are better off using the baya trans from the 07 accords.
I like how you explained everything, thank you 🙏🏼.
I love this video bro ,it's help a lot, thank you very much ❤
Every damn one I check is clogged.
Also, I believe you must remove the battery to have access to the filter.
Is this the K series or J series on the VIN....because I have been told its no filter on my 2000 Accord 3.0l V6???
It’s a J series. Some J Series have theses filters on their transmissions and some don’t. I think Honda should have put the filter on all of them!
Excellent video, thanks for your work and patience to explain it all.
Do you know if it's s the same filter spot for an Accord 2008 V6 3.5 L?
If it has a filter it should be near or close to that spot.
No the 2.4 sits above the transmission bell housing held in place In place by a clamp on each end I got mine from eBay $6 bucks
What about old filter pieces( epoxy) returned to trans?
we'll find out... but gears are harder than glue so as long as the passages flow the tans will go
Does a 98 Honda Accord with the V 6 have the same filter?
I don’t believe it does
Does the fluid need to be drain before replacing that filter
No, since it only has trans fluid when the engine is running.
Honda Pilots built after 2006 DO NOT have changeable transmission filters! They ARE inside the transmission. That’s probably why the fluid interval is 35000 miles.
Can you do a video for this on an 07 Honda Accord V6 if you get the opportunity?
This is a 06-07 Accord V6
Yeah mine didnt have that return line just a plug i used 2 fill it so no oring needed
Do you know what that end cap is called on the transmission filter for that model? My snapped
Not sure if you found it yet.
Cap, Atf Passage B Accord
Part Number: 25802RAY000
CMS sells a ton of parts and they have all of the diagrams uploaded to reference. Normally I just find diagrams through googling them.
@@grandkaktus1608 believe or not I’m tried them and they voided my order
I have the same exact ratchet😂. It definitely comes in handy. it's my go to besides my electric one.
I love it!
Really? dont use D1? Use only R2D2? Or C3PO? ....coz its not actually a honda....its a millineum falcon
Is it the same for Accord? I have a hard time locating the filter on my 2006 Accord v6.
This was one the best videos I've seen.
Do you know where is the filter on V6 accord coupe 2015?
I saw you also linked the linear solenoid; What symptoms did the car have? I’m having hesitation between 1st and 2nd and also 4th and 5th at highway speeds with an intermittent p0740. Would this service help out?
This video was taken from a 2 part series I did. Here is the link to the first part where I show the code, the issue, and what help me solve it: ua-cam.com/video/26AZuwUxQNY/v-deo.html
@@bundysgarage awesome, great info. Thanks
Any difference for 98-02 J auto trans? Please advise.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes they did not have an external transmission filter
I had the same question. Thank you.
If you want to extend the life of your engine and transmission and differential or transfer case get a product you can order a line called motorkote this reduces friction by 95% since I started using it my oil changes have been coming out about Maple colored syrup color and not black as they were previously oh, the best way around this is collect a sample of your transmission and motor oil before you change it
RO
Is this the same filter and location as on the 2007 Honda Pilot transmission?
Thank you
I'm sorry but this transmission and engine are disgusting looking, I take him over to the self-service car wash spraying down with Degreaser to set for 5 or 10 minutes depending, and then use the hot soap selection to clean off all the oil grease and Road grime off the underside of the engine and transmission and down the sides and top of the engine But be sure to cover your alternator with a towel and a plastic bag to seal it off or any other thing that's electrical or electronic that may be exposed? Then use the hot wax selection on the carwash and then that will get rid of any old grease that's left over as well as underneath and on the sides of the engine and transmission, remember this stuff is going to blow backwards toward the back of the car underneath which is going to code everything that needs to be washed off or degrees including the differential unit if it's rear-wheel drive or transfer case if it's a four-wheel drive or truck
Yeah kind of kind of funny how particular he was about replacing all the o-rings and crush washers when some leaking transmission fluid would really help clean things up lol
Whats that ground wire for mines kinda beat up?
Do we not disconnect a return line and let it run while pouring more in?
Does the Manuel 6 speed have a transmission filter?
Hello thank you for the detailed video. i have a 2007 V6 Automatic Honda Accord Special Edition, it has 210k miles on it. The transmission filter and fluid has never been changed. The transmission is running okay and it doesn't slip when driving. However I got the code A13. The 3 I believe is telling me to change transmission fluid. People have warned me to just leave it be since it has never been changed before. What would you do? Thank you
I would change it. Change it 3x. Drain and fill once drive it 1,000 miles and then do it again.
@@bundysgarage Outstanding thank you for advice I really appreciate your input, once again great video
Let us know what the end result is...
How did it turn out?

He nothing to do with the engine, it depends on what transmission is in it.
@@bundysgarage thanks I'm not really sure which trans I have
Excellent video. Good job..
Thanks for the info! Very detailed
Ooooh yeah maybe
God job thank you..
What happens to concrete if ATF fluid spills on it?
He said you’ll be ice skating ⛸ 😂
Concrete is porous and eventually it gets sucked down. You might get minor stain though.
ONLY use Honda ATF. Do NOT trust any other fluid in your honda tranny.
Why?
I have a heavily modified 3.0L 2007 Accord Coupe with 330 Wheel HP, running AMS Oil Signature ATF + 1/3 Quart Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Dramatically increases torque converter bite, and shifting is extremely sharp and hard. The Lucas Oil protects the gears themselves from high HP, wear and from shattering.
@@bundysgarage Hey. It's the guy with the 3.0L V6 Accord Coupe Road / Race Car... I finally had the trans filter changed at 135,000 miles. Because I'm a maniac and change my ATF like every 12k miles; it was not clogged, fairly clean and still functioning, and only had the slightest of extremely fine almost graphite like particulate in it. I am fairly sure that is a tiny bit of clutch pack from normal use. In doing its job correctly, a tiny bit of material very fine, will need to come off each time. But, what's important I think; is that the tiny bit of material that was in it, was smooth and silky like graphite. Anything gritty or chunky I would think is a bad sign. So in closing; yes you can pump the HP up significantly on a good J-Series Honda Transmission without damaging it. Even driving it hard / racing. But, only if you change your fluid very frequently and consider AMS Oil ATF.
I'm in the process of installing a small Nitrous Wet Shot for my J30A5 Modded Beast. Only a 50 HP shot. I'll post a photo when done. Along with the cautions you should have, which are many. It should only be considered if you know what things you need to do, to keep it safe.
@@banetek Good to know. I'm going to eventually turbo my Accord and was wondering how the auto trans might hold up.
I need to get a newer honda accord ecu that can be programmed with hondata. That will be the challenge, matting a newer ecu up in my 99 Accord.
The color of the ATF looks terrible.
I'll stick to my 6 speed MT.....(AC Delco fluid actually performs better in these 6 speed MTX than genuine Honda/Acura fluid)
Don't panic over dark ATF. On automatic transmission's there's clutch packs. Same with a wet clutch on a motorcycle. You can do an oil change and one short ride it will be dark again.
@@danp7463 That's not exactly true. I change my ATF so frequently, you could put it into another car and drive 60k miles on it. Its still nice and red and translucent.
Put Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer 1/3 quart + AMS Oil Synchromesh; if your looking to significantly outperform Honda fluid.
You do a lot of blabbering through the UA-cam video which is maybe your way but you can list all that information in a formation down below at least you can mention with the foot pounds or newton meters are required to tighten those items as well as size of sockets you're using to tighten us back down with?

What about the j35a9 4wd that has an inaccessible filter built between the engine and transmission? Any advice?
Are you sure? I think all J-Series Engines past a certain year all have this filter.
@banetek no I don’t think they all do. Actually I know they all don’t. Really depends on your year and Model. If it’s a Honda or Acura.
@@bundysgarage valvoline max life multi vehicle atf changes negated the built-in transmission filter issue. those dang crossmember/subframe mounts in the rear though seem to be the end of my 07 pilot unfortunately

@@bundysgarage at time stamp 12:16. The piece of metal to the left of the filter
That’s part of the old filter that came apart when I pulled the old one out. It’s the metal end caps of the ATF filter. It’s trash.
