The recent update to Warcry has been interpreted as proof that the game will still be supported going forward. But when the GW rep was asked about what’s coming next, he pretty noncommittal.
GW have supported things at the end of a life cycle like this before I’m not sure it changes anything to be honest. Plus I think it will not be completely rid of anyway I think they’ll morph it. We shall see.
I have no info at all, but just guessing from how the releases usually work with the sales dept. I really doubt reps are clued into much until it's time to presale to retailers especially since fourth is out in a month. A Warcry crossover wouldn't happen until at least a quarter after the fourth release, so the fall quarter or be part of the end of the year releases. GW doesn't want any system to distract from the release of the new edition and would want to stretch out the hype as long as possible. I imagine it will be something like the gap between 10th ed 40k and 4th ed Sigmar. There were some army boxes from Sigmar, and mostly a bunch of the same old for the other systems if not just neglect. I could see it be like a promo to continue the fourth hype and at the same time, start they hype for third ed Warcry, which will be releasing around July/Aug 2025. Don't forget they're also putting most of their resources into new models for all the ranges and the (25ish) new battle tomes too, while dealing with the same thing from 40k. It's not just skaven/stormcast that are getting products.
The problem is that it was trying to be it's own thing but making the warbands playable in AoS makes it hard for them to see if it's actually support for Warcry or AoS. Also for a long time the focus being just on the 8 points was silly and held the game back. My guess is they are going to treat it like kill team going forward.
It may end up being similar to what Kill Team is for 40k. Rather than loads of warbands for Slaves to Darkness fighting each other there will be units for most armies that can be used in skirmish games.
An AoS version of Necromunda can take place in any ruined city in the Mortal Realms. Being able to make a warband inside your fav faction and be able to enhance and grow their abilities would be a great evolution to Warcry. It doesnt need to be Mordheim 2.0, just a fantasy Necromunda will do imo.
I am really hoping GW ignores Mordheim. They can’t do anything except harm Mordheim. It’s already great the way it is. Moving into the AOS universe is an awful idea.
Well I don’t think it will actually be Mordheim it’ll just be inspired by. And I always say. No one can ruin something that’s already there, if they did make a new one that’s not great. It doesn’t matter, we have the awesome original. ❤️
I totally agree with one caveat: Warhammer Historicals did some brilliant stuff using a combination of Mordheim and MESBG that was like peanut butter and chocolate. Not saying this should happen to mordheim, but with considerate and subtle application, precedence is shown they are capable of making design improvements that matter. Regardless, Mordheim already exists and I am 95% on the side of they should leave it alone. They may own copyright, but it is the community that has kept it alive and GW can just go jog the fuck on, instead of capitalizing on the hard work others have done keeping it alive.
Just keep warcry as it's own game. Just make the 3rd edition setting a city instead of Ghur, and introduce a more robust campaign ruleset. GW doesn't have to scrap a working gameset..... fingers crossed 🤞.
i think they will just end up re-releasing mordheim. they re-released the old world. If they get rid of Warcry thats getting rid of limb of cash flow. all they have to do is revamp the rules abit and make some new models. 40k will have necromunda and kill team, age of sigmar will have waycry and the old world will have mordheim.
I think it came across in the wrong way. It won’t be replaced by Mordheim. It’ll be rebooted or the new edition will be inspired by Mordheim and Necromunda.
@@morehammer revamped rules. like i have always been saying. Warcry sales have been down so its time to revamp. I do not see them just getting rid of it completely like what everyone on the internet is hinting at or it just becoming more mordheim. I can see them implementing some of those old rules simply because they are very much aware of the extreme popularity of Mordheim, even though people say is a niche game, which is only really due to the rather short life span of the game and the limited availability of it, meaning where a person could purchase it. out of all of their games, it was really the only one you could sell at a walmart since everything you needed was in 1 box. GW will 100% try and capitalize on the growing popularity of it. I also saw on Guerrilla Miniature Games a video where Ash says they couldnt rerelease Mordheim because it was a game about the apocalypse during the on coming apocalypse, Y2K. I dont agree with that. There are more and more people discovering the game year after year combined with the fact that all around the world people are dreading a 3rd world war and the economic states of every country and house hold... that apocalyptic vibe is ever present.
I think GW might replace the game with Mordheim after seeing how popular Warhammer The Old World is. My local stores seem to sell out of 90% of the Old World related kits. Even their AOS stock is getting bought for old world. E.g I bought 2 boxes of gloomspite Gits with squigs/trolls/etc and 2 bags of 50 non-GW square 25mm bases (GW ones out of stock). By replace, I mean take the game away and put out another different game set in mordheim and update the rules. Basically do exactly what they did with Necromunda. GW copying their own recently successfull model with Necromunda seems like an obvious thing to do if they want to keep an IP alive and create a vast volume of sales.
ToW is popular in spots, and people are collecting minis but it's barely making a dent in most places. In my area it's played less than any other GW game in shops and it's tourneys are non existent.
@morehammer good point, I have bought at least a grand of old world stuff and I have hardly played yet - still building an army fit for this edition like I do for every edition
Mordheim is fine the way it is. It has a living rule book that is more or less a tweaked first and only edition. It doesnt need changing. If people want to play mordheim, its there already.
I can see it being called Wyrdblight as a name or something like that...I think IF they do it (like youve both said) itll be warbands heading into the ruins of blight city eruptions to collect wyrdstone (very much like Mordheim) but with new narratives as to why each faction wants it...
Allready rewritten the rules of mordheim ( with activacion like necromuda, and more based on 4-6 player game at the same time on the table ) 3 years ago
An AoS RPG Lite games does not make it Mordheim. Hopefully, whatever GW releases next is a good game, but it wont be Mordheim. Mordheims the only GW game that has had a single version released and still have a such a large and passionate player base. 'Mordheim inspired', sure. A new version of Mordheim? Won't happen.
Also people forget they already tried a mortal realms mordheim... Cursed City... Which had a pair of cursed releases and is a dead game. They arent going to take a third bite at it. Can i see a rebrand that moves away from the chaos focus and bespoke warbands and have releases that work more like Killteam but keep the rules pretty much the same.... That makes thw most sense with the moves they have been making. Most new releases have not been chaos for a year and a half.

This is most likely. That said they don't need to change the rules just the themes and warbands.
Indeed, will just have to see if they also go more narrative. We shall see.

Yeh pretty much the king of the I’d like to see. I’d just like that narrative setting personally.

Having played Old World, there's definitely some improvements that could be made. (But those aren't likely to happen for a Warcry version.)
I think they will eventually give mordheim the Necromunda treatment.
At this point, after the success of old world, they would be mad not to.

just release a mordheim made to order, it will sell like nothing before
I’d love this ^

I think Mordheim with Warcry models would be great, if it got the Necromunda treatment and less AoS
Deffo. Love the Warcry minis we’ve had.
Yeah. I'd play a meatier version of the Eightpoints for sure. "Carngrad, City of the (Lost and the) Damned."
Rumour doesn’t make sense given the recent rules update.
GW have given massive updates at the end of games before, just look at warhammer Fantasy, many books/updates and then gone.

Where os that rumor from? Are there any pics? This doesn't sound any real. Although i hope they come up with a setting like mordheim
I have no image per day, it’s been around for a while quotes from someone around Warcry design team effectively.
Mordhiem plastic city terrain …. Take my money
I know right 😂

@mattp6953 I think it's still early, give it a year
See this was more along the lines of my thinking.
Doesn’t matter if it sells.

With the Old World returning, they should just remake Mordheim. Like put it in 'present' Old World and have at it.
Yeh I’d be up for that.

No of course not, if the rumours are to be believed it’s a cross between Mordheim and Necromunda anyway.

Cursed city is not Mordheim at all though. It’s more a board game in comparison and linear. Just the setting is similar.
GW can do what they want... won't erase my 25 year old books and won't change how we game.
Exactly.
Nope
GW have given massive updates at the end of games before, just look at warhammer Fantasy, many books/updates and then gone. So yes is possible.
@@morehammer 'anything is possible' isn't much of an argument.. And frankly the evidence and premise is flimsy.. So.. Nope.
@@JimCrimmins except the evidence I just gave that it’s happened before. But sure. 😂

Warpstone
Skaven
…. Yup
Yes yes!!
