"Shine On Brightly" Starcastle LIVE from RoSfest 2007
I saw these guys open for Boston in '77. To be honest, they could have headlined and no one would have complained. They were that good.
Andy, so did I...by chance was your show at Nassau?
@@geraldwright9841 Tucson Arizona ten thousand seat arena show.
Got high on their first album back in the 70s still love this band
Still listen to Starcastle very frequently! Excellent band!
This was shot by one of the members family and was shared with me by one of the band members to put on a CD and YT. Wish I had more of them to share.
Thanks so much for the flashback !!!!
I heard this possibly as far back as 1981 when I was a teen ….The lead break harmony solo made a startling huge positive impression on me. Hearing it again all these years later is wonderful….thanks.
These were tuneful melodic guys. ❤
I saw them open for Todd Rundgren in the 70s and they were amazing. Very underrated and deserve all the accolades they receive.
Loved Starcastle since the 70s
We need "Lady of the Lake" live
They are nailing it! Good to see original members playing, and Oliver too! All of them are great!
I was at this Rosfest
Colonial Theater,
Phoenixville, Pa.
Oliver Wakeman, Keyboards...
This theater was the setting for part of the movie called " The Blob," featuring Steve McQueen !
Got turned on to this band when I was in 4th grade in 1979 by my older friend and cool neighbor
To this day, I turn people onto Starcastle and especially this song.
It's a tribute to a band when you have a Wakeman join it.
Very cool! Starcastle is a very big part of my musical history
I remember their Synthesizer, Light Show they had, they blew Boston off the Stage!!!!!
Hey ... that's my story! I went to see them in Roanoke, VA when I was in college. Everyone else went to see Boston. No contest, Starcastle f'ing blew the "bigger" band away.
I'm glad to see a full song uploaded to UA-cam, from this wonderful concert...after two years of only having the short snippets of songs I'd uploaded! Sound quality here is wonderful; this video does justice to Starcastle!
I've just seen this and said to my wife the bloke on keyboards even looks like Rick Wakeman. Its his boy! How has this passed me by. Its great
I wish you did as well. They are one of my favorite bands from that time and a long ago lost youth. Thank-you for sharing this.
Wish I could go to a Starcastle concert
Whoa! They put out only about 4 records. I didn't know there were any fans!
+Vincent Lussier Still one of the best shows
Opening for Gentle Giant
+Emmett Hoops - I have the first 3, hated the 4th one, don't know what I did with it.
Hunter College Studio Production Class: Oh yes, that was a great concert, both bands were excellent! I liked both bands and couldn’t believe my luck they were touring together!
Fabulous audio quality here!
Wish they made a DVD or BLU Ray of there live shows
Saw them in Phila in the 70's great show
Hell yeah, rock it, star castle!
Glad to see this band on a recent performance.
Love this band, saw them live in the 70’s, they were a warm up band for some big name and blew them away
Right you are Bob. Some compare them to Yes... Totally different. Starcastle's song structures were so much more complex. Loved all their records. So jealous Bob, would've loved to have seen them live.
When opening for Boston back in the day, they were threatened by Boston's (then) manager to NEVER play the song 'Breath and Thunder' again or they would be kicked from the tour! I guess that Tom Scholz didn't like being blown off the stage nightly by StarCastle. Lol!
@@rdjraa4983 I think it was Boston they blew away, and I love Boston ! Fountains of light tour.
Awesome harmony guitar parts. Hell, awesome fucking band all the way around.
Al Lewis sounds eerily like Terry Luttrell. I really miss Gary Strater. R.I.P. dude.
Cool! I loved Starcastle back in the day.... Great job!
These guys are AWESOME.
I knew that had to be Oliver Wakeman! Sure enough it is!
They still sound great! Man those are some tight live harmonies!
My first concert at a stadium/arena....Nassau Coliseum, 1977...they opened for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and some new band from Boston.
素晴らしい! In 1981 it was difficult to find Starcastle LP record in Tokyo but finally I got imported one and listen this prog tune everyday.
so Matt and the 2 Steves are the original members - pretty cool to get 3 originals 30 years later. Herb is a computer professional now, and I think Gary passed. LOVE this band. THANKS for posting
First saw Starcastle in Cincinnati. What a show
今聴いても、カッコイイなぁ❤
やっぱり、YESを思い浮かべてしまう😆💓💓💓💓💓
Despite being a different line up, Al Lewis does an excellent job on vocals and of course Wakeman nails it. Great genes! Thanks for posting!
Starcastle at Starwood! Fantastic shows. Great sound. Thank you, Nicky Mc
I am a long time fan and own ALL FOUR of their original albums on LP. Bought when they were brand new releases in the record stores! Also recorded them live with a hand held cassette recorder (mono) when they came to our local concert venue.
I am sorry that Oliver did not try to cover Herb's keyboard sounds closer, the clearer monophonic lines of Herb's Mini Moogs and vintage Hammond organ are so much cleaner. I heard this same thing when he played with YES a couple years ago...(sigh)
saw them at bullwinkles in south jersey in 76. they were awesome
The lead singer & band sound great!
Lady of the Lake is kickass
Yes was already a supergroup when Terry Luttrell was forming REO.
Holy crap this is so good !
Great memories.
Very talented band......
Great...great band...
Nice, thanks for sharing.
Lo-oove Starcastle......💖
Thanks much for this! My new 'puter has lousy Audio, but my Starcastle Vinyl was great. Thanx for letting me put Faces to the Vinyl - Wes
not 100percent my taste in music but i recognize a good band when i hear it they are good
First off, is the audience alive? wow.... Saw these guys in I think it was 76 or 77 with Johnny Winter. Outstanding!!
Dude get some more of this please
Can you please tell me where I can get a copy of this Concert? The sound is very good. It must be coming from the board. Thanks for your help. I wish they would produce for history sake a DVD Concert.
Can't help thinking that this band crashed because the critics said they were a Yes knock off. They were different then Yes much the same as Tom Petty & the Heart Breakers were different than the Byrds. There were similarities for sure, but Yes were trend setters much like Elvis and Robert Plant and we never hear criticism when people emulate these two.
A big part was poor management, like so many great bands that just faded away...
Robert Plant is merely doing a Steve Marriott impression anyways lol
66Biker their record label had a lot to do with it. Epic wanted them to do more of a pop rock or arena rock thing ala journey/foriener. when their 4th lp didn't sell the writing was on the wall. I'm sure there were other reasons but that was a big part of it. Many great bands only had a short run so these guys can still be very proud.
In my mind, Starcastle was always happy Yes. Great to see Oliver Wakeman playing keyboards for them, keeping it all in the prog family.
A lot of Prog Rock bands fizzled out between 1977 and 1980 due to disco and punk.
I had the fierce pleasure of knowing Matt Stewart when the reunion concert was getting put together. I also had the privilege of seeing the last concert of StarCastle with Gary Strater on the bass......
StarCastle rocks hard, and we all need more....Prog rock is the genre it is because of Starcastle.... "Yes" is the band that copied these guys.....
This is great. Did they ever do a college tour in England in about 75. I think I saw them
whoa!
Wonderful! While I have all of their official releases, I never had the joy of seeing them live. Discovering this video is quite the treat! Thank you for posting.
Is there any band Oliver Wakeman hasn't played in? Starcastle, Strawbs, Yes, . . .
Why is there not more video of them performing their other songs?
none of the above are original member tho they do sound good. Must have have seen Starcastle a dozen times in Ottumwa, Iowa. Some of the best vocals in the business all time! Never got the recognition they deserved. Lady of the Lake is a master piece of synth.
Three of the guys are originals. The 2 guitars on the right and the drummer.
bumpdunlop The singer sure sounds a lot like Lutrell. RIP original bass player Gary Strater, one of the best.
Jpeterson7 Can't think of the guys name that is singing but he was a latter member. He was their drummer and singer when they were out in L.A. of down in Atlanta.
This is great and it's great to see Olly Wakey playing. Are there any videos with George Harp on vocals?
Where can I get this concert? The Track sounds direct from the board. Very tight.
The american Yes ¡¡¡
It is Steve Hagler on guitar.
@txussoldier I was there, 1977 I think
I definitely think Al L.'s vocals are better here than on the Alaska cd I have (from 98 or so), stronger. Sounds pretty similar to Terry Lutrell in fact. Oliver W. does an admirable job... the gtrs shining thru... Takes me back to May 77 seeing them in Roanoke VA*. (Light up another one!) A dvd release of this concert would be nice.
*Backing up Boston. Not sure how many knew their music, but they won the crowd over that night.
At least I bought the Album! (Credit that to the Cover-ART that enticed me). I Love the Music also. (and the Band "Yes" had nothing to do with it). I didn't like YES at the time.
Judas Priest got the idea of harmonized twin lead guitars from Wishbone Ash. I wonder if these guys were watching and listening to WA as well.
Adrian Lackey They were Wishbone Ash fans back in the day. I've known some of them since 1970 and i now play with one of their original members.
bumpdunlop Impressive. I saw them on their *There's The Rub* tour, and I think *Argus* is a neglected gem.
Bonjour a tous. Despite of they are a clone of Yes, they are a wonderful group. Au revoir
this recording is great, do you have any more songs from this show. thank you
When did Steve Luttrell, formerly of REO, leave?
Is this a musicschool concert? Sure sounds like it.
I'm sorry Terry Luttrell
There was not that many good American symphonic prog bands. Kansas, Happy the Man and these guys. Too bad they where labeled Yes wanta bee's.
This singer is actually better than Terry Luttrell in my opinion.
Wakeman tries to jazz it up but that didn't really even fit....
彼等、もっと貪欲に自分達を売り込めば良かったのに、勿体ない
LOL!!! NOT!!!
StarCastle was such a blatant rip off of Yes it's almost comical. Yes I bought their first two albums, and that was as far as I went. I suppose it's only fitting to have Rick's son Oliver in the band, but again I ask the question of why an American version of Yes?
What, no Terry Luttrell?
Check their Wikipedia article...I think Terry passed on before this concert...
Kent Weissinger Terry is alive and well.
Kent Weissinger Gary Strater died... the original bassist...
