    The Moby song was perfect for this episode. You can faintly hear children laughing and playing in the background of the song. This episode always makes me cry. He finally knew what happened to his sister and got to see her one last time. And the idea of the walk ins coming in before the child dies is a comfort I wish was real. That no innocent child's spirit had to suffer the pain of their own death. Due to whatever or whomever caused it.

      It was literally a scene that crept up on you, there was the mystery leading up to it and then they (the producers, writers) made it so nuanced, so relatable you knew what happened to the children. And we all will be touched by it at some point, because we'll have children, or even not having children we know that vulnerability of being a child and cry out of love and hope that they are safe somewhere.

It's like they just vanished from my life. The most beautiful little sisters an older brother could have - gone. They were two of my best friends. Even with my partner I often feel lost and alone without my sisters. Not a day goes by when I don't think of them. It still annoys me to this day that she's been dead the whole time. There's so much misdirection through the whole series, so many times Mulder is told she is still alive. Carter has admitted this episode was a retcon on Samantha because they felt this idea was so powerful, and they didn't know of any other way to resolve Samantha. Mulder searching for Samantha represented the backbone of the X-Files for me.
    Despite all that, this scene is heartbreaking yet does also provide 'closure' for Mulder, with the music of Moby to accompany it, it's perfect.

      +STARSTyranT This is why this should have been the last episode of the show and this scene should have come as last after Mulder and Scully resolve the whole alien conspiracy

    • @FuzzyDlop
      @FuzzyDlop 8 років тому +11

      Nope. Mulder was never told his sister was alive, they just showed him clones and nothing else. Also, Chris Carter didn't want to give Mulder a happy ending with Samantha's story and that was decided from the start. He just didn't know what was going to happen to her.

    • @thenomad014
      @thenomad014 8 років тому +22

      A couple of times they did tell she was alive though not definitely. The alien bounty hunter told Mulder she was alive and in the Blessing Way episode ghost of Mulder's father told her she was not here in dead-land implying she was alive. Not very credible sources but it seems the scenarists thought of her as alive.

      Well technically this episode said the children didn't die but we're transported away to a safe place in starlight, the nurse who met samantha said she was in the room one moment then men came to get her and the next moment she was gone, so there's some consolation in that, somewhere his sister is still out there but for all purposes she's gone so it's good he had closure.

    • @Jerbsinator
      @Jerbsinator 7 років тому +2

      I mean, it's pretty obvious from the beginning that Samatha was never going to be found alive....the real Samantha anyway. Honestly the most annoying thing I found about this scene is that they used the wrong actor for Samantha at the end...this person here isn't Samantha, at least not the ones in the pictures Mulder has. I'm assuming they couldn't get the actor so they had to compromise, that's fine I guess but just a nitpick that annoyed me.

    Tears run down my face and I can’t stop them.
    The genius of Moby, the endless searching of the truth from Mulder at last finding closure.

    I saw this scene when I was young, in the middle of the night, alone in my room. The music by Moby, the scenes ambiance, everything. It messed me up. Like a kind of scared to death... but calming feeling. I remember it stuck with me for years until the Internet/Google/UA-cam existed where I could finally look it up and see it again. This scene means something to me. And I don't know why. This may be the greatest piece of film for a TV series every made. Everything about it is perfect. Every. Single. Thing.

    How is it possible that out of all days, you posted this on this day...
    My girlfriend queued up this episode on Netflix tonight, I had no recollection of the episode (nor its significance), though I had watched some of the series when I was a lot younger.
    The song played early on, and I recognized it, but couldn't place where I knew it from. I could feel that it was powerfully important, I even vocalized, "I know this song.... wheres it from??". I had searched for it before, but since I couldn't make out the lyrics nor recall where I'd heard it, I had no place to begin...
    The episode continued on, while I was none the wiser, until this scene began... It all came back to me on a freight train of feels. This was the exact place that I knew the song from, I recalled everything about the scene as it unfolded; the peaking of the music as Mulder sees her, the song quieting as he returns to Scully and the Psychic, Mulder telling him about his son and his denial, I remembered it all, a long lost memory, after like 15+ years...
    I finally remembered where I'd heard the song and why it was so powerful. And now I know the Name
