Blue Light Blocking Glasses Test Comparison Review

- In this video, I test a few different blue blocking glasses, and also regular glasses and sunglasses to see how much blue light they block. Zenni optical give me a blue laser to use, which shows how much blue light is blocked by each different type of blue blocking glasses. If you want to get some computer glasses that block blue light and protect your eyes from damage from looking at digital screens, what’s this video to see how various different blue blocking glasses perform in a test with a blue laser light. If you spend a lot of time looking at your phone or at a computer screen, it’s a good idea to wear some blue blocking glasses to prevent your eyes from being damaged by fry eye from blue light.

Thanks for the video. As many others commented, the laser test from inside seemed like a really strange choice for a demonstration video on this otherwise fascinating test. At the very least, do both front and back, which would demonstrate that both are indeed the same. Instead, we have numerous people pointing out the same reaction. May be time for a re-upload or follow up video.
I was really surprised tat people think there was a difference. I guess if they were mirrored sunglasses, it won’t make a difference, but with these it’s the same amount of blue light reduction either way.
@@hoohoohoblin You would get lots of props if you just amended the video to demonstrate front and back and teach people that it is actually the same. Otherwise new viewers are going to have the same reaction--"Why is he shooting the light from the inside?!?". Clarifying the science would be a bonus for your viewers.
@@hoohoohoblin actually it does make a difference. Also studies show that uv blocking works better than blue light blocking glasses. You actually get more exposure from blue light from everyday use of your eyes on a bright day. The sun. Studies show you get lack of sleep from blue light from phones tablets and say living in Alaska, from the sun. Thats why people that work third shifts, don't sleep as well. They disrupt their natural sleep cycle. Also if you have sun light anywhere, the uv/ blue light will disrupt your bodies natural production of melatonin. Thats the biggest things about it all glasses that are considered blue light protection. Really do very little of anything. Thats why they have bought more on devices. It works better than blue light glasses.
@@hoohoohoblin Really surprised people want to see things tested the same way you expect them to be used?
Eat the bugs stand with Ukraine. Take all the boosters forever. Just obey right!?
You are testing the glasses from the back to make a test you needed from the form to back. Went you wearing you glasses you getting protection from the back or from the front to back on you eye. You may trying to make a new video using the right side of the glasses may help better and fair.
I need to go lie down after trying to read this comment.
@Mr Sarcasm I’m not a 100% sure but I would assume the curve matters. For example, when looking at sun glasses, there is a difference between how much light comes from the outside compared to how much comes from the inside. Which is why I think it’d be the same for the other glasses
And I agree he should have tested the laser first.
@My Reply Notifications Are Off it is because there is this so called visible light spectrum which composes of different colors with different wavelengths and blue is one of them. blue light is not just basically the blue light itself same as what he used. base on google, Visible light may look white, but it's actually a range of colors. Each color has a different wavelength. ... Sunlight is the main source of it, but blue light also comes from some light bulbs and electronic devices. It was discussed in high school if you listen to your teacher
Not a controlled experiment. Some glasses you shine the light from the outside, some you shine from the inside. And we’re not even sure if the light is legit or not.
Also, wouldn’t it make sense to shine the light only from the outside? I mean, that’s where the light is coming from, not from your eyeballs.
I am an optics engineer on a high powered laser system, it is a complete irrelevance whether he shines the laser from the inside or outside of the lenses. What you are inadvertently referencing here is the fundamental impossibility of a true "one way mirror" (sometimes called a "two way mirror") that only lets light travel through it in one direction. Such a hypothetical mirror or lens would violate fundamental thermodynamic law and allow for the existence of a perpetual motion machine. Thus, it cannot and does not exist. The light blocking abilities (or inabilities) of a lens are always perfectly and completely identical no matter which way light is shone through the lens.
Its a helpful video, thank you so much.
I just want to know why the glasses are checked from inner side and not from outer side?? becasue I assume that the lights will be coming from outer side.
My question would be what wavelength that blue laser was. I would also be curious what the transmission spectrum of those lenses are. If you can still see blue color displays on your computer screen, then it is not blocking all of the blue light on the screen.
are you sure you are shining the laser through the right side of the lens? some things are one way only.... maybe its ok maybe not.... just saying
Yes. It works the same either way.
Soooo straight forward, thank you!
You’re welcome
I was shocked at the results..... very interesting.....
BTW.. Happy Holidays to you and the clownfarter.... Hope you guys have a great holiday and a wonderful year.
Thanks! Merry Christmas and happy new year to you too!
A hilariously large number of people in the comments are complaining that he shines the laser both from the inside and outside of the lenses and believe this presents some kind of lack of scientific control in the test. Nonsense. I am an optics engineer on a high powered laser system, it is a complete irrelevance whether he shines the laser from the inside or outside of the lenses. What you are inadvertently referencing is the fundamental impossibility of a true "one way mirror" (sometimes called a "two way mirror") that only lets light travel through it in one direction. Such a hypothetical mirror or lens would violate fundamental thermodynamic law because it would allow for the existence of a perpetual motion machine. Thus, it cannot and does not exist. The light blocking abilities (or inabilities) of a lens are always perfectly and completely identical no matter which way light is shone through the lens.
And now a question for the man who made the video - providing that you do not have any form of colorblindness, are you able to perceive any color tint whatsoever when looking through the Zenni "Blokz" glasses? I am interested in the absence of any tint, however slight, of these lenses. Also, does the 405nm laser pointer induce any fluorescence in the lenses, and if you have one, does a UV light induce any fluorescence in them? Thanks
Dollar Tree has $1 glass. Would you mind test it? I just bought it.
Blue light from computers and phones enter through the front of the glasses..... not from the inside going out. It would make more sense to test them the other way around
It works the same either way.
@@hoohoohoblin it doesnt.
@@deviousuno9778 they put all of their coatings on both sides of the lenses at zenni.
@@deviousuno9778 wtf are you on about?
What are the percentages of the blue light blocking?
I was looking to the spectra which phones emits, and peak of blue light is around 450nanometers, ranging from 400 to 500, in a very spiky curve, this pen emits around 400nanometers, would you help me to figure out what's the point of this test? I really liked the video honestly, just bringing a point which I have some doubts about. um going to get in contact with zenni to check if the pen simulates this range of blue light. anyway, very very nice video, thank you very much
We would like to tell you that our Blokz lens can reduce 55%~60% blue light with wavelength from 415nm to 430nm and can reduce 30% blue light with wavelength from 415nm to 455nm.
their answer.
Hello. I like your demonstration video. Can you give me a recommendation for clip on anti blue light glasses for my existing eye glasses?
why you check from inside out?? the light from the screen is comming from the outside not the inside
it doesnt matter, according to him
Thank you for this review
You’re welcome
Great video, thank you!
You’re welcome
That Danger tag you see on that laser is required by law world wide, can you tell me what the wavelength of the laser you are using in this video? it will be on this warning label. Thanks
It says 495 nm +-10%
I'd be really curious to see other wavelengths within the blue spectrum tested. Basic physics says if it's blocking blue, it will have a yellow tint. I'm wondering if it's tuned to a very narrow wavelength around that laser and letting any blue outside of that through.
Where is the link to the glasses
I have prescription glasses. Do you notice the bluelight in every day situations? Like when being out in nature or anything away from the screen. Considering having bluelight filter on my next glasses.
I don’t notice the blue filter at all. I have the blue blockers on the glasses I wear all the time, and it doesn’t bother me.
Can I try regular sunglasses for blue light protection
Yes. They probably help some.
can you also try welding glasses please😀👍
do you recommend wearing them throughout the day whilst looking at the screen or are they more effective at night when looking at screens? (as i have issues falling asleep sometimes)
Both.
Wow wish I seen this before I got some cheap ones
which brand is the best in your opinion
I like the Zenni glasses. They have the same quality as real prescription glasses.
Nice video
Thanks
Where did you buy that blue light tester laser from and what’s the name of it
It came with the Zeni blue blocker glasses.
Is it bad to wear your blue light glasses for fun?
No. I have two blocking built-in to buy regular prescription glasses that I wear all the time.
where did you get that blue light pen?
Zenni optical sent it to me when I bought their glasses.
awesome !
Thanks
