The cost of expanding the Gallowgate will be almost as much as building a brand new 80k stadium, Freddie Sheppard explored a Gallowgate extension years ago, basically the higher you go the cost is so much more and with the Metro tunnels the amount of piling needed would make the cost extortionately high! i think the preferred option would be to build 75mtrs into Leazes park (Leazes car park is roughly 25mtrs anyway), this wouldn't impact the park too much and perhaps not even the bandstand would be troubled or could be relocated, orientate by 45degrees and the East stand becomes the North stand which in turn opens up Leazes Terrace a bit, then the problem of where to play would not present a problem as build two thirds of the new stadium, move in, capacity would be higher than cuurent SJP, knock SJP down and finish of new stadium :) sounds simple doesn't it lol
There was a drawing of exactly this floating around, build most of the stadium around the back, while still playing at home, once 3/4 of the stadium is built. Demolish SJP enough to be able to get construction going and build the new final stand, then you would still have a new stadium for match days and retain most of the capacity while the final stand is built, it would free up some land for better parking, more space for leazes terrace, better connectivity, more open space, more retail and bars/resturaunts etc.
What use is an extra 10,000 seats? I thought the idea was to bring in extra revenue for the club!!! An extra 10,000 seats is nowhere near enough. I love St James' Park as much as any Toon fan, but an extra 10,000 isn't going to be anywhere near enough. Build a new 80,000 Stadium so we can compete with the big so called 6. This is really boiling my pee now, just build the new Stadium already. Preferably in part of Leazes Park.
Spending 1 billion on an extention is pointless. We will then get a few year down the line and have to spend god knows how much doing the east stand. Then you will have spent nearly 2 billion on 2 new stands that won't match the existing 2. Spend the money now on a new stadium and get 80k seats. The revenue will be boosted massively. It makes sense to me🤞
Craig Hope wrote a great article in Mail about the stay or go question. We HAVE to have a new stadium. Push up into Leazes and move park down towards where footprint is now. It's pretty simple.
I think we need a new stadium, they are talking about history and stuff at st James, what have we won there? Nothing of note it's time to move on and build a mega stadium for psr and a fresh start
We don’t need an extension to the Gallowgate. We need a new stadium I love SJP as much as the next. But it’s not just capacity a new stadium will give us a stadium that we can use for other events etc. just look at spurs stadium.
The ‘cathedral on the hill’ has been a series of cobbled together compromises in the nearly 50 years since I’ve supported the Toon. At times it looked, and was awful. Great location but that was it. Revisit Sir John Halls Castle Leazes building into/towards the current SJP at the Leazes* end (* the 1980s Leazes end was a disgrace, a shambles of what it was in the 1960s). Turn Saint James’ into an actual park…. A fabulous walkway to our new fantastic stadium (that can be used for mass events). Remember folks - a wow new 80,000 stadium will bring the money in. To circumnavigate ffp etc.
I’m not sure why everyone thinks we need a stadium of more than 62-65k Liverpool and arsenal average 60k we don’t want a stadium that’s not full as it will spoil the atmosphere. How many people will be giving Ipswich or even Fulham a miss if tickets aren’t scarce and cost 50 quid.
I take it you have a season ticket then. Tried every week for 18 months and not got anything. 70,000 seats would be filled for 90% of matches. 20,000 more than todays capacity should equate to 40% more noise so whats the problem with a few unfilled seats on a cold Wednesday night in January.
@ it was only a few seasons ago when had to give 10000 tickets away. Imagine the scene if we lose the feel good factor and have a 80000 seater stadium. I didn’t say we don’t need a bigger ground. Just don’t want to go bigger than we can keep full or will lose the atmosphere. I’d love everyone to get a ticket that wants to go but people are more selective when they know they can get a ticket every week. I just imagine that if they announce they are extending to 65k people will say no ambition rather than that makes sense.
I love St.James and never want to leave. But that doesnt mean we shouldnt. Ive been lucky enough to have been going since 94. The new stadium is coming eventually. Id quite like to see it before i nash on.
The transition would be easier to a new stadium. As soon as you start trying to add to SJP, it would mean shutting down parts (and seats) to accommodate the build. A new one would be built while SJP is unaffected.
l believe the decision to build a purpose built stadium holding ALL OF OUR FANS was factored in before the club was purchased. This feasability study is simply an exercise designed to guide our fans to the obvious conclusion. 😊
I think we should go for a new state of the art 100,000 seater stadium, with new state of the art facilities. Look when Arsenal had the same dilemma and they went for a new stadium. Look at Tottenham’s stadium. Westham have a better bigger stadium than us!
And I think thats exactly what the owners want, they want the fans to see how difficult it is, and let the fans come around by themselves rather then backtracking on their promises, this way its the fans decision to move, and I am also in agreement, I did not want to move, but now to move forward we actually have no choice long term.
It has to be a new stadium encroaching slightly into Leazes park. At the end of the day, the Freemen are tasked with using the land for the benefit of the people of Newcastle.... Considering that few of us have cattle to graze anymore, I can't think of any better use of the land than to use some of it for a new stadium!
New Staduim. I've said it hundreds of times, " If we stick at being too nostalgic, add only another 10,000 seats, then the club will implode." Everton building a new staduim and even Leeds expanding their staduim will surpass ours. Do we we really want to say we stayed at St James Park but have the 14th largest stadium in the UK and can't buy or attract the best players as our stadium has stayed small. Even American football stadiums are being rebuilt as it's the sign of the times. Bigger staduims, bigger crowds, bigger revenue = Bigger success...simple.
This Gallowgate extension has been queried for years right? I mean it would just look bonkers with that gimply east stand just left as it is (due to legalities). I think the only feasible thing to do would be to build a new stadium. I reckon most fans now favour this new stadium because they are seeing how difficult it is to upgrade the current stadium long term. I also think its pretty smart from the owners, as in they are being open and transparent and letting the fans see how difficult it is, and thus those fans now openly suggest moving, the owners have gotten people on board subtly. 3 years ago we all would have said no we don't want to move, but now its actually illogical to stick around.
Big up Matty 👍 Fantastic news that Lewis Hall is in the England squad truly deserved I would definitely be looking for our club to build a new stadium ⚫⚪
World class video as always !!! And I really hope the Saudis watch your ideas too because your comments always nailed on. A new stadium is a must to take us forward.
New stadium in Leazes Park or one of the other green field sites to the north of the stadium. Council can make alot of £ and can turn the current site into a park. So no loss of green space really.
A stadium expansion will just create more of what’s happening at the moment - hordes of people leaving early, diluting the atmosphere with a shocking ballot system that lets anyone go to games. It also doesn’t address PSR barriers
Av been a fan for 30+ years and the only way to keep away from ffp is expand we are limited to what we can do at St james we need to build new but the biggest in Europe bring in the massive money. We won't need to worry about filling the seats either
It’s all well and good saying build a new stadium but the problem is where ?. Spare land in the city is sparse and probably locked in land covenants for recreational or historical significance
You know what matty I really do think we should move on to a bigger and much nicer looking stadium. Think of all the extra income from all the facilities we could include in the new stadium. Also.we capitalise on the land with the existing land which we could develop including the new stack!. Extra £££ brother
We need a new stadium.... If it's just untill, after the euros. Thus, it will get more locked out fans in, then, of course. But a new 80, 000 seater, safe standing is, for me, the only viable option....
I totally agree I 100% understand the history of St James park but a move and a brand new stadium and training complex in 1 seems to be the right move I mean its only moving a hop skip and a jump and we have to be adaptable to change, what's the point of spending all that money for an extra 10,000 seats, rebuild the lot make The NUFC stadium the envy of the world don't be a stick in the mud if you want brilliance and My beloved toon can be that brilliance lets move, St James park has served us well could that not be the new women's and under 23,s pitch toon fans open your mind think big, and lets really wake that sleeping Giant , if we stay yes it will be better and new but if we move it will be the most sensational stadium man has ever build lets do this together support the move and reach for the stars.
I don't think NUFC engaging with Nexes has to mean it's about extending the Gallowgate stand. The context could be around maximising the plot size for a new stadium to sit on.
@davidanderson2838 yep, possibly. Would be a good way for the PIF to support the city also, which is something promised but not really delivered as yet (bar STACK I suppose).
@ just from a regional point of view the Metro was only ever half finished. If there was any real intent of government to let the North East thrive the Metro would have been extended out west and further afield to surrounding towns. The billions wasted on HS2 etc could have paid for it all. If PIF make the same level of investment in Newcastle as MCFC it would be a massive boost for Newcastle and a catalyst for more investment. Here’s hoping.
In my offence I've always gone for a new stadium 🏟 100k etc. Yet after witnessing the arsenal result and atmosphere I can see a level 7 in the gallowgate. Then maybe some crazy grading we see in the new Everton stadium. It's soooo steep. But obviously gets extra seats in the east stand
The only way revenue wise extending the gallowgate would work is by making the east stand 100% corporate with boxes etc. simply putting 10k more seats is peanuts in revenue. That said for the east stand it would look silly having 3 huge stands and a small east stand unless the whole ground is modified like what real madrid have done.
Whether we like it or not, we're severely restricted with what we can do at St James. New stadium for me. Can continue to play at St James whilst it's being built. For me, with us unable to touch the east stand, can't really see any other way.
I think people need to get more realistic. It’s very unlikely we will be able to build in Leazes Park anyway. They purchased strawberry place for a reason and I expect staying at St James Park is almost a certainty and people thinking otherwise are living in the clouds. I’d say it’s almost sealed on. People thinking new 80k stadium in leazes will very likely be disappointed. 65k stadium at St James Park is probs 90%. It certainly won’t cost one billion, although it won’t be cheap.
the problem we've got is that a lot of fans made it clear early doors that they don't want a new stadium. our owners are trying to keep them happy. it seems from the comments across the inter webs recently people have changed their mind. im seeing big support for a new stadium, but is it too late to let get the message across that we're okay with a move?
The etihad stadium is getting a east stand rebuild. Plus hotel. 300 million that's costing 😢. Just to add a few extra k seats and a hotel. Our club was bought for 300 million
“Once in a generation cheque” Put it like this if someone said to you, you can have a million quid right now or I’ll give you 10 million in 10 years time. It’s obvious you would go for more money. We have to go for the bigger better option which is a new purpose build stadium! As long as it’s in the city centre otherwise stay and improve SJP.
How is a stand extension going to solve the problems with the rest of a tired St James Park!? You can’t get moved now trying to get to the bar, toilets etc, new stadium all day for me, all our competitors are building and we are going to be left behind.
Had a long and hard think about this and my name will be on the list of objections to moving SJP and this will be such a long fight it will hurt the club.
This is really starting to worry me now. Do our owners see a long term future with us? Build a state of the art NEW stadium, and show the world who we are OR just keep papering over well known cracks in the club. I hope I’m wrong, but the announcement has to come soon.
Either way make st james park lot bigger so we can get more fans in or new stadium we can fill 65 to 80 thousand easy we have the best fan base in the UK easy and we need the best stadium next year we finally find out hopefully up the toon
I'm one of those professors in ground engineering things you were talking about, basically all you need to do is stick a few wooden beams in the metro and it will be sound
Building new 90,000 in land next door and 30 floor hotel shopping centre swimming pool gym tennis club dine in make London here for super stars of future
Hunters moor up Barrack rd, is the Answer, leave the town moor and leazes park alone for the Environmental freaks! It is probably part of the Freeman's land but will enjoy a few bob from a land sale! Cheers Mark.
1000000% has to be a NEW stadium!
new stadium for me .
Would be like putting an extension on a bungalow as opposed to building a two story house
😅😅
Thats a good anology though Matty. @@TheMagpieChannelTV
10k is nowhere near enough. We need a New stadium for our new era! Hopefully right next door to SJP
It will look ridiculous if they build up the gallowgate and not the east stand...time to move and build a big new shiny stadium!!!!
East stand would look like a bus stop
Can we not reinforce or rebuild the east stand so it's atleast the same height?
I'm sure they're looking at every possibility
Need a new stand built, going to be a while until new grounds built! I can't get a ticket for any game.😢

You got the job. When can you start?
Make sure there is a big trophy cabinet.

It makes sense to me🤞
I saw the last trophy being won at St James' ... 1969.. the time to move is long overdue.
So did I mate, I threw Frankie Clarke the ball back for a corner, I was 9 years old, been waiting to many years for something else 🙏👍
Craig Hope wrote a great article in Mail about the stay or go question. We HAVE to have a new stadium. Push up into Leazes and move park down towards where footprint is now. It's pretty simple.
Leazes Park is protected & untouchable I’m afraid
I think we need a new stadium, they are talking about history and stuff at st James, what have we won there? Nothing of note it's time to move on and build a mega stadium for psr and a fresh start
New stadium - that extension would look horrendous
It has to be a brand new stadium, make the move now to make new memories and opportunities.
We don’t need an extension to the Gallowgate. We need a new stadium I love SJP as much as the next. But it’s not just capacity a new stadium will give us a stadium that we can use for other events etc. just look at spurs stadium.
new stadium or we will never compete against the toxic 6

We need another 62k not making up to 62k
Forget the seats....they need more vip boxes....the revenue off them is ridiculous....30 boxes, 2 tiers of 15....massive cash boost....
has to be a new stadium, whether on that site or elsewhere

As much as i love SJP and the look of the stadium in my opinion a new stadium is needed for the growth of the club and the city
Av been a fan for 30+ years and the only way to keep away from ffp is expand we are limited to what we can do at St james we need to build new but the biggest in Europe bring in the massive money. We won't need to worry about filling the seats either
Has to be a new stadium PIF are cutting down their spending in years to to come so we need that new state of the art stadium
Bring us in to the future with new stadium it will take years to build
62,000 is still absolutely no good. Enough said.
If they are going to do it , do it properly. PIF do not fuck around just get the new stadium built in Leazes park or the town moor.
Move an underground railway line ...not easy and certainly not cheap...can't see that happening.
Once in a lifetime cheque doesn’t suggest just an extra 10k increase
New stadium. No chance they extend and loose out on more ticket sales while they build an extension.
It’s all well and good saying build a new stadium but the problem is where ?. Spare land in the city is sparse and probably locked in land covenants for recreational or historical significance
I'd prefer a new state of the art stadium.
no chance the saudi's will do something so small as an extra 10k
new stadium
You know what matty I really do think we should move on to a bigger and much nicer looking stadium. Think of all the extra income from all the facilities we could include in the new stadium. Also.we capitalise on the land with the existing land which we could develop including the new stack!. Extra £££ brother
We need a new stadium....
If it's just untill, after the euros. Thus, it will get more locked out fans in, then, of course. But a new 80, 000 seater, safe standing is, for me, the only viable option....
£1 billion for 10k extra seats? Is that even worth it? I'd rather they put that cash towards a brand new training ground instead.
Sooner the fan base realise and get it trough their heads we need to leave St James the better if we want signings and progression it has to happen
New stadium 100% more seats let’s have biggest in English football
Move, the ground is a concrete dump time to move forward.
New stadium definitely. The wasteland near the river is the best place imagine the future photos of the stadium with the bridges in the background
Tha not going to spend close to a billion quid on an extra 10,000 seats ! End of!
Need an 80000 + stadium, so many locked out now and even more for the future.new stadium is a must Matty.
Good video keep up the hard work
I think the only way forward is a brand new super stadium :)
I don't think NUFC engaging with Nexes has to mean it's about extending the Gallowgate stand. The context could be around maximising the plot size for a new stadium to sit on.
Could be about extending the Metro west to improve transport links so those kind of objections over increased capacity can be countered.
@davidanderson2838 yep, possibly. Would be a good way for the PIF to support the city also, which is something promised but not really delivered as yet (bar STACK I suppose).

Look at the Dublin Stadium..The way it dips down on one side is perfect to solve the Listed Building s on the east stand
It looks shit though
Yep, looked at the Dublin stadium, it looks shyte.
Shiny Stadium, here we come .. The Adidas Robson Arena .. 85k seater .. 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
the problem we've got is that a lot of fans made it clear early doors that they don't want a new stadium. our owners are trying to keep them happy.
it seems from the comments across the inter webs recently people have changed their mind.
im seeing big support for a new stadium,
but is it too late to let get the message across that we're okay with a move?
Option C on bondibot looks the best you could built most of the stadium without moving.
You need between 75-80,000 anything else is pointless.
Shud build a new one with retractable roof and pitch
The etihad stadium is getting a east stand rebuild. Plus hotel. 300 million that's costing 😢. Just to add a few extra k seats and a hotel. Our club was bought for 300 million
Well done Lewis Hall the best Left Back in the England
Oh no not this again
WHAT Level "21" !
Free telescope included
😂
That will look absolutely crap and an eyesore that will blight our beautiful city.
People whinge on about history & all that shite at SJP , 52% of Man utd fans want a new stadium , they have shit loads of history compared to us.
They need gigs and NFL for the North stadium before the Manchester’s or Liverpools will win the contract. 1:42
“Once in a generation cheque” Put it like this if someone said to you, you can have a million quid right now or I’ll give you 10 million in 10 years time. It’s obvious you would go for more money. For seat numbers it’s a new stadium, but where?
I ran the numbers to do both, well all three, for Roobenatien 7:04
They are going to do something to raise the turnover. I also saw the requirements 9:30
I am a leading Managing QS (we look after all the monies from begging to end :) 3:49
They’re going to spend over a billion expanding and modernising the stadium.
Go the ground is jinxed
This is really starting to worry me now. Do our owners see a long term future with us? Build a state of the art NEW stadium, and show the world who we are OR just keep papering over well known cracks in the club.
I hope I’m wrong, but the announcement has to come soon.
Either way make st james park lot bigger so we can get more fans in or new stadium we can fill 65 to 80 thousand easy we have the best fan base in the UK easy and we need the best stadium next year we finally find out hopefully up the toon
They'll go for a new one.
Out with the Old in with the New. Never make huge financial decisions on emotions.
Carsley’s dropped Pope and Livramento though!!
Is this good news. Yes. I’d much rather this than we just do nothing. New stadium is still better though.
I'm one of those professors in ground engineering things you were talking about, basically all you need to do is stick a few wooden beams in the metro and it will be sound
Seems legit
Genius👏🏻
Building new 90,000 in land next door and 30 floor hotel shopping centre swimming pool gym tennis club dine in make London here for super stars of future
Has to be a new stadium 🏟
Hunters moor up Barrack rd, is the Answer, leave the town moor and leazes park alone for the Environmental freaks! It is probably part of the Freeman's land but will enjoy a few bob from a land sale! Cheers Mark.
Need new stadium. SJP, give it to the women's team.
