  • In the latest episode of the 1723 Podcast, Shaun Butler and Susan Snell take a closer look at the association between Freemasonry and charity.
The association between charity and Freemasonry can be traced back to a group of documents known as the Ancient Charges, dating from the 14th to mid-18th centuries.
During the 18th century, the concept of philanthropy developed significantly, and this influenced Freemasons to consider the well-being of their members. The charitable aims of Freemasonry grew, and by the end of the 18th century, the connection between Freemasonry and charity was firmly established. Over the centuries, groups like the Royal Masonic School for Girls, and later the Masonic Charitable Foundation, have been created to oversee and administer Freemasons’ charitable support, not just for their members but for their dependants and local communities as well.
In this episode, our hosts explore how a document written over 300 years ago continues to inspire people today to contribute towards charity and support their communities in a meaningful way!

An episode on freemasonry in South America would be fascinating! I feel like it's missing since you're going all around the world.
