Many thanks for such a simple way of showing me what to do. I am 82 and have just changed my cylinder in under 20 mins. The total cost was £12.98 an dthat included the new Yale cylinder plus 2 keys. You would pay more than that for one key alone.
One of the best instructional videos I have seen. Thank you so much! Despite being 70 and now on my own, I feel confident enough to do it myself - although I may well need to watch the video again once I get round to it!
Excellent video, thanks. You have to wonder about the 13 people who, having clicked on a video that says "How to change a yale type rim cylinder", then proceeds to show exactly that clearly, then click the dislike button. What were they expecting? Beyoncé to do a little dance in the background?
Thank you so much! you have just saved me £75 + VAT. which is what i was just quoted for doing the job! I spent £6.49 on a new cylinder! Thanks again so so much
Called a guy this morning to come and change it for me (I already had the barrel)...he said 45 pounds. I then went and bought 3 pounds of tools from the pound shop and 45 mins later...Voila...Information is power!
Quick question on the yale night latches if the snib isn't keep in the deadlock in lock position ie u want to unlock the latch with the key then slide locking catch up to locking position. How can u repair it I've looked inside and stripped the plate of and all I see is a white plastic clip where it holds the catch button in place
Hi, I'd like to trim the tail bar using your method...The Yale tail bar I need to trim to size is quite thick. I've never done anything like this before, is it hard to bend? I don't want to ruin it. Kind thanks if you can share any further tips for learners like me. Nicky
Just been to B&Q and bought the wrong one, looks similar but beware!! The more expensive , £22.00 British Standard one is for narrow edge doors. The cheaper one, £13.00 fits wider doors, still I saved £9.00!
Fortunately for me there is a locksmiths directly across the road from my house . I had bought the more expensive bsi yale lock also since it said it is more secure , yet it didn’t fit properly & I had to put the old lock back in . I now intend to buy the cheaper version which is a little shorter and should fit securely . It was a shame that the one I had bought was too long to screw securely , it looked about 4 mm to long so that the new cylinder was sticking out from the front door & wobbling around . I even popped into the locksmiths shop to ask their advice & they suggested adding some washers - yet I don’t think that would have solved the problem, the 2 screws that you have to insert into the back of the cylinder seemed to be a little to long to screw the cylinder in place di that it was in the exact correct place from the front of the door vs protruding too far - due to the screws being too long . The instructions on the Yale website said the 2 cylinders were both suitable for door of the same thickness , yet the CHEAPER one has a shorter cylinder & should therefore screw snugly in place ? I will find out tmrw. I got my daughters friend to assist me with the ‘ fun ‘ of trying to get it to fit & wonder why it wasn’t fitting … Still loads cheaper than paying £100 to the locksmith. I used a junior hacksaw to saw through the tongue to shorten it , since I had misplaced my pliers earlier this year , so couldn’t use 2 pliers to snap off the excess length . I fact I only used a VERY old but new junior hacksaw blade without the handle & was still able to saw through the tongue with alot of patience & not knowing if it was possible - which it surprisingly was !

First class clear explanation and demonstration, with no waffly introduction or needless padding. Well done!

Excellent instructions & video which is straight forward to follow - Thankyou
Oh my word. That is brilliant. Once I have done it myself tomorrow, I shall thank u again!
Thanks for this - really big help. Surprised how easy this was. Got a £15 yale tumbler from amazon. Better than £50 callout for a locksmith. Thanks!
Really helpful, thank you so much - I did it and am very chuffed with myself!

I lost my keys last night with my keys in... it is playing on my mind. Thanks for this video you are a service to society. Thank you very, very much.
Thanks very much, that's put my mind to rest on how it's done
Thanks. Couldn't get the box off the back. I was missing the pull forward (hadn't been mentioned in other vids) and this worked perfectly.

This is great. The cylinder in our door lock is wearing out (really hard to insert keys), I didn't know I could just replace the cylinder.
Really helpfull. Thank you for posting this.
Short & straight to the point. Good vid!

I have just come across one that was fitted upside down.
