Just watched this and headed straight out to grab some of these . As always appreciate the video and you trialing new things which are budget friendly . 👍
In the midst of real stuff sodium tripolyphosphate sticks out like an old sock. It is used in soaps and the Laundry industry as an emulsifier, it's a Tri so it's probably toxic by some standards. Here its used as a stabiliser to stop the meat falling apart during heating, and it keeps the moisture in to give that succulent chicken feeling. It can be used to increase seafood weight and meats, so it's regulated by amount.
Just a tip, when you have bags like this for the freezer where you only take out what you need, cut a V in the middle top about the size to get the frozen food out the bag, then you can tie the edges of the bag to reseal the bag 👍 try it.
Great review Gaz I bet you where shocked with the price of them and for 1kg plus they looked nice and tasty 🐓🐓🐓 keep up with the great reviews as always 👏👏👍👍
got to say I worked in a chicken production factory and the best way to get rid of chicken that's either been in frozen storage for years yes years or is bruised or legs broken or returned products out of date is to cover them in a sauce or coating strong enough to mask the rank quality of the chicken. Trust me I've seen the quality of the meat before it's coating while that was around 5 years ago nothing changes. Cheap to get rid of meat that really needs condemning
I do like white meats, poultry and fish. What sauce goes with chicken? I once had peanut sauce glazed chicken and that really worked. Then there's BBQ / brown sauce. I don't think tomato sauce works. But garlic, crushed garlic does. And some herbs. Like sage. I can't think of anything else. Do radishes go? Oh, chicken and asparagus seems to ring a bell.
Just recently found your channel gaz you give great reviews thanks love looking through and seeing whats out there and your funny too what more could we want 😄
Been doing a binge watch and saw the Aldi fresh tuna steak video you did.I can also recommend the frozen ones from Aldi as you get 4 for roughly the price of 2.Another great video, keep up the good work.
Great video pal, I’m going to look out for these. I’m going to try that chicken donor meat from Morrisons tonight. Start new job tomorrow, so that chilli sauce best agree with me 😂 …. Smithy
These are very good value. I usually buy Tesco BBQ Ready to Eat Chicken Drumsticks at £3 for 430g or £4.30 for 730g. These are not frozen. I cook two in a 700w microwave for 4 minutes, turning them over after 2 minutes. They are delicious, but expensive compared to these Home Bargains ones. You could probably use the Ninja on air crisp to crisp the skin if heated in the microwave.
I don't usually buy frozen chicken because the cheapness is due to the 'added water' which is injected in. My mum worked on the line in a chicken processing factory and the tales she told!
These were already cooked, then frozen, so not in this case. They definitely do that to raw chicken though, to bring up the weight, so you're paying for a lot of water there 👍
@@Charlie_Crown They were pumped raw, I presume to help with shrinkage during the cooking process(Description, added water), cooked then frozen. Looks good for two quid though.
My Mum, worked on the frozen chip line in the 60s, the pots in them days used to go through a bath of caustic soda to bleach them, she remembers on shift where they made it too strong and they came out as sludge at the other end. Those were the Days!
@@devonsteve2347 thank god for the improvement of the food processing conditions. bleached chicken is all sorts of nasties (and Im not even talking about the bleaching) hope the US chlorinated chicken does not make it into the UK, but my hopes are dwindling.
@@303shaunl yes, of course, but with this product you are paying for the cooked weight, most of that water is gone after the cooking process. Like I said raw chicken is pumped, then, in this case, that raw chicken was cooked, most if not all of that added water is cooked out of it (mixed with the juices from the factory cooking process) Adding water to raw chicken before cooking is intended to help with minimising dryness in the chicken, unfortunately they deliberately add too much to push up the weight of the raw product, if selling it raw and frozen, so as to charge more for it. At least here you are being charged for the cooked weight and it looks good value for money, with probably all that added water gone, but I'd probably add some BBQ sauce half way through, make it more succulent 👍
Good value, ive seen uncooked ones for more. If you fancied a bit of stickiness, about 10 mins before taking out you could drizzle a bit of chilli dipping sauce over them😋
£2 a throw, thank you for this one will have my boys check out the local branch and get a couple in. A bit of chicken never goes amiss and your right given todays prices this is cheep!!!!
Yes cheap chicken full of water, buy from a local farmshop and lightly sprinkle qith Shwartz season all and I mean lightly then a slow roast to crisp them up, 2 mins before they are done stab them all over and they will crisp up lovely !!!

Nice review, as always, thanks, Gareth, but somewhat stunned you never mentioned "how many" were in the bag. I "get" it's 1kg and the number may vary on that basis, but it would've been nice to know!
Wow, that's great value. I normally make my own spicy chicken now to cook in the air fryer, but these look like a great thing to have in the freezer, for when I can't be bothered. My local HB's doesn't have a freezer section, but I'll be looking out for one that does that I can get to. Nice one....👍
This is what really gets me at the moment, home bargains can sell these for a couple of quid (and make a profit) but the likes of Iceland and other supermarkets (who have far superior buying power) are charging several times as much for the same thing??
