But my concern is I have 8.6yrs experience but the pay which they have offered is too low. Some they are telling this is until my probationary period. Is it like that orthe salary is fixed

It will still depend on the assessment of the Nursing board here in Australia but they will definitely take into consideration your degree and experience :)
In summarize how much the ranges of salary after tax regular work and with overtime. Its very clear if you mention the ranges of salary of the minimum and maximum after tax. This will make clear what expectations how much monthly salary.
Hi Pedromax68. Tax in Australia for Nurses is between 32.5% - 37% depending on the income.
If your income ranges from $37,001 - $90,000, you’ll be taxed $3,572 plus 32.50c for each $1 over $3,572.
If your income ranges from $90,001 - $180,000 you’ll be taxed $20,979 plus 37c for each $1 over $90,000.

Kudos to you! Approximately, it is safe to assume that a reg. nurse who works a day job of 38hours a week @ $33/hr minimum rate will get you an annual salary of roughly gross Au$70,000.00 Excluding superannuation. Tax will be around 26-30%. This doesnt include overtime and graveyard shifts. You're either in Melbourne or Sydney. 😁

that is regular salary, it is still tax deductable. At $70k annual, you'd be taking home roughly $5000+/- monthly tax already deducted. Though new nurses I've heard starts between $40k-$60k annual.

Hi Riri, your experienced will first be assessed when you apply for a registration in Australia. Once this is done, they will determine your level and pay :)
In NSW, an RN with 8 years experience (or more) working full time at the bedside in a public hospital including weekends can earn $3,000 AUD per fortnight take home pay. In NSW, penalty rates for night shift are 15%, not 35%. This is not applicable for the weekend when penalty rates are on a midnight to midnight bases with rates 50% (Saturday) or 75% (Sunday). In addition, you may also be able to work a casual job and earn extra. Regardless, expect to possibly get Covid and be bullied by management and have no sleep or social life.

Hi Sherry Aileen Callejo, salamat. I’ve studied nursing both in the Philippines (Baguio) and in Australia. The difference that I’ve personally noticed is that here in Australia, all units you take up will be related to nursing (major subjects) whilst in the Philippines you are required to take up minor subjects on top of your major subjects (example: Physical Education, Rizal, etc.).
Full time students usually take up 4 units (4 subjects) and depending on your university and how early you sort out your schedule, it will give you a chance to work on your free time (which alot of students do)
There will be times where you will be having your clinical placements which is usually 2 - 6 weeks long (depending on which University and what year you are in) and each unit usually have an assessment (usually essay writing (research based) and an exam at the end of each semester) - hope this helps 😄

Hi Carl, not sure you found the answer given you asked this question 6 months ago. You don't study chemistry. You will study anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, some psychology, mental health, chronic and acute disease and illness, critical thinking/analysis, research, basic core skills of nursing and history. You will also do lab classes to learn nursing skills and scenarios. Hope that helps.

Great content, how about monthly costs of living/salary deductions including taxes and pension in AUSTRALIA. I'm currently based in UK and about half of my monthly salary goes on bulk of deductions/payment.
Hi Heybing, planning to vlog on taxes soon, to give you an idea, it’s ranging from 19-37% depending on your income bracket. Nurses usually falls under the 30-37% bracket.
Do they take into account overseas experience in the classification as well?

Hey! It depends on the facility you are working at. Majority is 8 hrs but you will find that alot of ICU and ED departments do 12 hour shifts. :)

What's the difference between Enrolled nurse EN and Assistant in nursing AIN?
Hey Sanda Habek, Enrolled Nurses practice almost the same scope as Registered Nurses (only difference is that ENs completed a Diploma in Nursing while RNs completed a Bachelors degree. There are also certain skills that are not part of their scope of practice not unless they pursue further training / get a bachelors degree to be an RN (example: administering chemotherapy) in addition the salary is also different)
While AINs’ common duties are Assisting patients with their personal care needs such as showering, toileting, shaving, oral hygiene, dressing and eating. Assisting patients with their mobility and communication needs. They receive delegated tasks from RNs and ENs. Hope this answers your question

Hi Spade, hospital wards usually have a 1 nurse : 4-5patients. In hospitals where team nursing is applicable, it’s 2 nurses: 8-10patients. In addition, if you work graveyard shift, patients load tends to be more. At the place I work, we are usually given 1:9-10 ratio.

Hi Greatest Of These is Love, competence in nursing practice as assessed by performance appraisal in accordance with procedures agreed to between the Royal Australian Nursing Federation and employer. Example of this is a Clinical Nurse, Clinical Nurse Educator, etc. You need to apply for the position online, some people pursue further studies to increase their chances of getting the position. Others apply under the same employer and will get the position (they will assess your performace, skills, etc) hope this helps

Hi John G, Technically you should be a level 1.8 RN considering your experience in Manila and Singapore. AHPRA and your employer also play a role in determining your category once you start working here. At times (and I have friends who have experienced this) there might be a bit of delay before some years of your experience is recognised. :)

Hi K Y M O N O R T S A, your working hours will depend on your contract. Majority of companies don’t encourage working overtime or more than 80 hours per fortnight (as they will be required to pay you overtime penalty rates) - you do get away with it sometimes if they are really short staffed. Another option is you can get a second job (an agency maybe) to get you the hours that you wanted. :) hope this helps

Hey K Y M O N O R T S A, I am not sure about other hospitals but with where I’m currently working (also hospitals where my other friends work), we all start at the same increment regardless if you’ve done a double degree or not :)
76-80 hours every 2 weeks (fortnight) is the maximum your contract will state. More than that is paid overtime. Any hours worked more than your rostered hours for the day will have a 50% penalty for the first two hours(except sunday and public holiday which is double pay) then double pay for the succeeding hours.
Working 6 days in 10 hours shift/week - You will not be covered by nursing union malpractice insurance. That's against the nursing industrial laws here in Australia due to workplace health and safety issue. If a patient will sue you or complaints you the nursing union will look at how many hours you work and 100% the nursing union lawyers will not help you. The industrial laws are there to protect your patient and to your self. Either you work private or public nursing union will find out how many hours you work.

I was working as a nursing assistant while I was studying nursing. when you are on a student visa, working hours are restricted to 40 hours a fortnight however you can work unlimited hours during university breaks. check out my other video - How to get a job in Australia.

Hi Po Yee Tam, most companies will pay you your base salary per hour for your annual leave. :)
5 weeks paid vacation leave plus 12% leave loading every year. Therefore, when you go for annual leave you earned more than normal working days. If you do night shifts then mostly you will get 6 weeks paid vacation leave plus 12% salary loading.

Hello Ellen Castro, getting a Grad position these days is very competitive however it might change on the year that you will graduate. The advise I was given before was not to make the big major Government hospital as your number 1 option as everyone will tend to apply to those hospitals and chances will be slimmer (if others have a better suggestion, feel free to put them on the comments). And yes, nurses can do 12 hour shifts but will depend on the hospital and wards. The areas I’ve personally encountered that normally offers 12 hour shifts are ICU, ED, and Energency Step Down area. There are alot of job opportunities for nurses here. Having an Australian experience though will put you at the “priority list” when you are applying for a job.
Having said that, I’ve met alot of people who just recently got here from the Philippines, India, etc and have no experience in Australia as a nurse. Majority of them got employed with nursing agencies and nursing homes. - maybe it’s something you may consider applying when you get here just to get that initial Australian experience. :) hope this helps

Applications are usually submitted online few months before you graduate. :) if you are based overseas, then that will be a different pathway :)

Hi Mercury, No not really. alot of nurses that I know were able to immigrate here without any post grad. however, experience is preferred when appying as a skilled immigrant. others come here via student visa and follow a certain pathway to lead them to permanent residency (if that's their goal). hope this helps. =)

Hi Pety's Path! you can come here as a skilled immigrant however you still need to convert your registration to australian. Check out www.ahpra.gov.au for detailed information regarding that matter. alternatively some people come here as a student visa / conversion courses and work while they study to get the ball rolling.

Hi Uzair, I wouldn't categorize it as easy nor hard. In my personal experience, I would say it's challenging. I am a firm believer that if you are passionate and you enjoy the course you are taking up / or what you are doing in general then you can accomplish whatever goals you have. enjoy the process. =)

Hello, I would like to share some info. I'm currently a nursing student here. If you are an Australian citizen, you can get a student loan (Higher Education Loan Program or HELP). the HELP scheme is like study now pay later. Your chosen university will have some scholarship programs on offer as well.
