Indeed. Keyboard warriors are everywhere. None is even close to these kids' level or has any idea how good these kids are. Delusional or trolling or just dumb as fuck?
yeah I was surprised at how slow the ball looked like it was moving in serves and thought that I could return those kinds of serves, until I started counting and realized that there is only about 1.5 seconds from when the ball goes over the net to when you have to hit it
Jammin Out I once got to play against the number one at my high school, 3 star recruit. Watching him I figured I could return his serve pretty easily. Boy was I wrong. His kicker bounced off the court faster than most first serves I've seen
@@jamescruze9565 I played former D1 #4 singles Big Sky conference the other day. I got my ass kicked 6-0 6-1! Yeah playing them in real life is much different than viewing on screen. These guys are awesome.
Hard to believe watching this that in a few years Mackie will take at the time the number 3 in the world Grigor Dimitrov to a incredible five-setter in the Aussie Open. Man, do they grow up fast.
Mackie was a local boy, my coach Rosie had him as a kid, at the Claremont in Berkeley. One of the real success stories for the program. (I was a lot older and never had the tiniest promise that he had). He certainly improved a lot from then too. This match has a lot of mistakes, but he doesn't seem to make those mistakes much anymore. Fawcett was a good player, and gave a lot of trouble to many, but Mackie had the consistency. He now has a really big forehand too.
because in college tennis it's almost always a serve and maybe a return so if people are gonna watch a match it'll be in the lower courts where they actually can have rallies because the serves aren't so wild
Just me or does his ball toss end up a little left of ideal because his step moves his body to the right? Seems the toss would have perfect placement in platform serve. Must have one heck of a stubborn toss to change serve motion! Neither serve type is superior. Whichever feels natural/comfortable and makes you THINK it is the superior way to serve, will be the best service motion.
Yeah, what kind of bullshit rules are they using... every single serious professional league on the planet says that serve touches net=new serve. why the fuck would you make it any different for college tennis, which is arguably a stepping stone for many professional players?
+ucdlin not talking about the pace on the serve, more about the stability i would asume. With that hight it also find it wierd that people have a "fragile" serve.
Why the big stadiums then, that's an impressive looking facility but almost empty? I'm sure McEnroe played college tennis in front of large crowds, are these stadiums a throw back to a more popular era?
jesoby The facilities are very nice because they have the money for it I honestly have no idea to why college tennis has gone such downhill in terms of fans over the years.
I saw your link on a review that you left on bestbuy.com. Thank you for doing that. This is beautiful broadcast quality video! Good luck to you on your video making!
Cringe! Referring to yourself in the third person; changing your outfit between sets; screaming 'Let's Go' as if you're playing a Grand Slam for a million dollars. Remember kids, be really serious, tennis isn't a game to be enjoyed, it's a brutal way to crush the opposition and walk around with a huge ego. I think Americans prefer boxing to chess, what do you think? Do they really play no let's because they can't be trusted to make an honest line call?
Yes they play no lets for that reason and too many players were calling lets on serves they didn’t like since both sides can call a let, which made games very difficult to get through. It’s so ridiculous they can’t have lets.
This is the number one court of a collegiate rivalry (almost 150k views on UA-cam). So ya, there will be some intensity, some "let's go" and the guy is probably coaching himself when referring to himself in the third person.
@@AIMBOTKATFISH Having the loudest scream doesn't make you the most intense, verbalising a thought doesn't make it more intellectual, having the biggest ego doesn't make you the better player, and having rivalries that mean you can't be trusted with line calls is just sad. I know exactly how good these players are and why they do what they do, I've been playing/coaching/following tennis for 25 years, but young players need to control their emotions and enjoy the game to better learn from their losses and win more.
wa va so I’m not aloud to get excited and Into the match with a “lets go” unless I’m playing for millions of dollars? You sound like the kind of person who ruins tennis and has no one who wants to play with you buzzkill
McDonald took Dimitrov to 5 sets in Australia this year. I think it was 8-6 or something in the 5th. He can play, and the guys like Eugene criticizing these kids are fools.
Plasmality 1300 is a ranking. lmao, trying be a smartass when u a dumbass. He's only in college. u know nothing about tennis if u think he's bad hahaha
For 1. The joke flew right over your head and for 2. where in my sentence did i say he was bad at tennis? Are you on drugs or something man? You're over here accusing me of specific statements when you couldn't catch a joke that a 7 year old would have gotten. Go read a fucking book before pointing fingers at people dipshit.
Really, where? When I was 20 years younger I used to play guys who had played #1 at D3 colleges, and I could play them pretty even, and I was only a strong 4.5 player so, no, I believe you’re mistaken.
I played tennis all my life had a National ranking threw boys 14s to 18s and the guys I had to play don’t miss much and they attack way quicker , and move way better then these guys not to mention can control the speed of their serves. These guys would get destroyed.
+Joseph Kenner No. The UCLA player is literally ranked #65 in the world now, playing professionally on the ATP World Tour. He would crush any of the players you're thinking of easily.
That is one of the dumbest comments ever. “Not missing” doesn’t mean squat if you can’t impose yourself in the point. I’d love to watch you or your fellow junior warriors take on McDonald for a match. Unless you were playing international junior events with future ATP pros, please, get over yourself.
Holy shit all these professional tennis players in the comment section on how bad these nationally ranked college kids are

I'm your biggest fan Mackie from El paso Texas! keep your head up man! you're my idol (:
what school do you play for
Ucla player has a bomb for a serve
Why is The stadium almost alwys empty
because in college tennis it's almost always a serve and maybe a return so if people are gonna watch a match it'll be in the lower courts where they actually can have rallies because the serves aren't so wild
Jammin Out interesting...
They are pro for sure,,, very well played in the very sunny condition, not easy to serve.
Where was Brymer?
What wonderful, solid strokes.
ucla’s shots have me chills 😭
You did a lot of work on this match. Good job!
Interesting seeing Mackie with a pin-point serve back then here. Anybody know why he eventually switched to a platform later on?
Better control probably

Omg,terrible calls on 22:29 and 22:42 :(
Luka Jankovic Yeah, I think they all missed the let at 6:15
dharmaboy75 no lets in college, correct???
dharmaboy75 in d1 tennis, they don't play lets, and continue the points when it hits the net.
ya its like he decided he was going to make a call if he couldn't get to it. Not very sportsmanlike.
And 24:56!
what a beautiful beat down
one would think they at least have benches at the college level.
my boy mcdonald in ao!!! He played well great to see him out there
At 3:05 dude that was beautiful!
How did McDonald go from this Comp straight to atp ??
did they go full ride?
22:43, I think this Fawcett guy needs some specs. That serve was smack on da line.
Inside even
Do you know what Blade Mackie plays with?
Just to think a couple of generations ago, these spots were taken by McEnroe and Connors. US Tennis has gone down the tubes big time....
Violet15 tennis has evolved. Besides if you accept prize money as a us tennis player then you cannot play college tennis
Violet15 McDonald is ranked top 80 now so
Really good serve from the UCLA guy
The UCLA guy has a nasty serve!
10:34 Sell is the only one dominating first set.
That's why we listen to coach at MyTennisHQ! lol
hmmm the #2 men's tennis singles were better than #1 :O
anyone else notice all the foot faults on stanfords duece side service
So much extra movement
How come it seems like they play on some let serves 25:11 for one example
NCAA tennis play lets
Thanks figured
@@DaDavid15 There was an issue where people kept calling lets on aces/serves they lost points on, so they have to play lets now
Dang, Mackie could really return Fawcett's loopy forehands with a flat nasty forehand.
Do you have Marty's matches?
I got Mary playing doubles with Mackie.
Does anyone else hate white shirt's serve preparation?
6:15 was a let, no?
Pretty bullshit rule.
25:11 too wondering about this
Yeah, what kind of bullshit rules are they using...

why the fuck would you make it any different for college tennis, which is arguably a stepping stone for many professional players?
ok, gd match, all i can see is mcdonald, is he the blue one
6:20 do they play lets?
They do not play lets in college tennis.
Score please
+Xavier Tournaud 7-5 6-2 mcdonald
Pounding it all over the place
the man wearing white shirts have fragile serve
niche4645 tru. needs to grab a basket and practice
+niche4645 everything looks slower on video. he's probably serving around 110 here which indeed isnt fast for D1 esp from pac 12
+ucdlin not talking about the pace on the serve, more about the stability i would asume. With that hight it also find it wierd that people have a "fragile" serve.
White shirt soulds like Rafter when serving.
My big sister is in ucla
I understood that they got big noisy crowds at these college games, looks pretty empty, maybe the sport is not popular like in Europe now?
It's pretty popular in the us but this the college level and popularity is for College tennis is very low here in the States.
Why the big stadiums then, that's an impressive looking facility but almost empty? I'm sure McEnroe played college tennis in front of large crowds, are these stadiums a throw back to a more popular era?

24:56 "Lines = out in College tennis" ... :-/
Looked out even replaying at .25 speed multiple times
I saw your link on a review that you left on bestbuy.com. Thank you for doing that. This is beautiful broadcast quality video! Good luck to you on your video making!
Good games, but College tennis needs to switch to clay and you would have more people watching and the games would be more interesting.
info781 and how would they pay for that?

they both lack consistency on their ground strokes, can't even maintain a good rally
+Eugene. L Stanford guy has a professional ranking and I'm sure he can maintain a rally
McDonald is a professional tennis player on the ATP tour and the Stanford guy is pro as well. Upload a video of you playing!

Average rally on the ATP tour is like 4 shots including the serve and return...
Stanford boi slow
ucla definitely knows how to move someone around the court and has a nasty serve 😭
I'm pretty sure that I could beat tom... that serve is suspect.
If you notice the Stanford player is obviously an amateur. His footwork is sub par at best. Sad

+Michael Bukhalo yes
+Michael Bukhalo dude 7-5 6-2 for number 1 in the country? He played professional tournaments. I have a hard time believing that watching this match.
Even if the person was an amateur, what's so bad about being that exactly?
He’s played yoshita seguchi who almost beat Stan Wawrinka at Indian Wells. Hes playing pro right now so....
Stanford guy is a big dude with some nice power but boy he sucks at tennis. geesh.
+PaveLowExpert to bad he was number one in the nation and has a professional ranking then huh
