This is one of my favorite movies. One reason it flopped is that the script was too clever by half and way smarter than Len Deighton's book. The metaphor of roses -vs- weeds (reprised later when Palmer meets Col. Stok) is the heart of these movies. Ian Fleming's James Bond character is all roses. Len Deighton's Harry Palmer is weeds. And that's what Ross's intelligence operation was all about. "They attract butterflies." There are also some gay themes that go to the heart of what was going on in British intelligence around that time. It also tells us about the gold stolen by Swiss banks from the victims of the Holocaust long before that story became common knowledge.
Cain created a great spy. A different kind of agent for sure. He arrives not in an Aston Martin, but on a bus late in the afternoon. He notices his boss likes flowers saying his weeds are easy to grow.
What a script...delicious...loved it in the 60s...love it now. So many classic lines. Brilliant!!!!!!!

Guy Doleman had a brilliant speaking voice
when it worked
Upper Richmond Road, Putney, London. Unfortunately no longer there, demolished in the bad old 60's for some non descript block of apartments.
This just ruined my morning.
good movie, as usual. great to hear two different accents: one posh, one Cockney
Ross: I like weeds.
Palmer: Yes, they're easy to grow.
Ross: Not at all. You have to keep the flowers out. Defend the strong against the weak.
the clip is great but won't someone post the movie?
This discussion between a subordinate and his manager is brilliant. 'Have you ever thought of it, Sir?', 'What, Palmer?', 'Defecting... I have 😆'
I so need a job where I can smart off to my boss like that.
Don't we all !
Caine and No 2 from The Prisoner!!
" _Loyalty._ "
Does anyone know the location of Col Ross's house in real life..??
I can tell you in real life he lived a few door down from me

If you cannot upload the full movie don't upload any thing. You are only trying to rip off the viewers.
