Portadown v Manchester United at Shamrock Park

The friendly match between the "respective league champions" was played on Saturday, 27th July 1996. The attendance on the day was 6,100.
Sir Alex Ferguson brought over a star-studded squad with the likes of Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Lee Sharpe, etc - having completed the "League and Cup Double" the previous season.
Afew weeks after playing Portadown, United went on to beat Newcastle United in the FA Charity Shield and David Beckham scored this famous half-way line goal against Wimbledon in United's first game in the FA Premier League.
United went on to retain the FA Premier League and were beaten semi-finalists in the UFEA Champions League, losing to Borussia Dortmund of Germany.
