Still the best Dungeon Defenders version, and still the King of 1st person defense games. The backstory: Following the success of DD, Trendy Entertainment began developing DD2 but midway through they changed direction towards a MOBA game, but after community backlash and probably internal stuggles they changed direction yet again back towards a DD game. Unfortunately DD2 is F2P game and that is ALWAYS never a good thing, and DD2 never became a very good game because of that. Then they made DD Eternity cash grab, which was basically a relaunch of DD with some nice new features and re-balancing - This was a very nice game, and it is what they should have done with the original DD; but anyways DD Eternity was just a cash grab with no future, to fund DD Awakened that was under development. DD Awakened should have been the "back to the roots" project, but miraculously they have also messed that one up, despite copying so much of the original DD, they fail to catch that DD feel. Now Awakened feels like a game that tries to copy DD, a simplified version of a better game. And so ... the original DD despite it's many flaws is still the best of the DD games, although it is completely dead these days with hardly anyone to play with, trade with, theory craft with etc ... like in it's haydays(years). It is not the DD2 and Awakened are super bad, but they lack some of the very important gameplay details that made original DD so great; and it leaves you with that MEH feeling. It is just my opinion.
DD is not going as strong as it used to. The player base is getting weaker. But you just need to enter the community, people are super busy farming and trading -Cheers
Thanks for the thorough overview. Was always thinking how the other games are, and always read that it was pretty much fail after fail. I'm gonna buy all the DLC for the OG today :) I love the game so much. Would be interesting to know what Trendy are up to nowadays. And could you give an example why is Awakened worse than OG?
I definitely agree with the whole “catchup” mechanic some games have. However I do understand the usefulness. I just wish games made it optional. Also the first person seems interesting for ranged classes.
30 hours for a giraffe... and 30 waves... I guess that depends on the map. Main campaign all had only 25 waves and did all drop giraffe on treadmill while a map like Marrago Desert Town would have had 30 or 35 waves(I forget console waves). This will be an interesting series I think. I'm very knowledgeable about DD1 PC and PS3 versions(been a long time since I played PS3 version tho) so I'm curious to see what you all learn in the episodes that are out so far.
unfortunatly he is only slightly exagerating. Before a major rebalance patch early on, the waves went as high as over 10,000 mobs per wave. and this was before the faster moving NM mobs existed. so each wave was long and slow
@@robertfilomeo346 I did reach endgame on PS3 but I never really did run survival I don't think. Don't think there was evwr a reason to beyond Giraffes besides Kari the Brave. I remember when I first saw mythical gear in like a picture of the PC version and was like: that's just cheating. Lol

Redux has extra mechanics (a mod that was created by the community), like a new difficulty called ascension mode, a new modifier called ruthless mode, and many new levels. There is also a built in emulator that lets you spawn in your other heroes. F2 - F5 to control or add heroes, F8 to only show your main character instead of the whole split screen, and F6 and F7 to spawn in the main 3 heroes, and the other to put all the other heroes back in the item box. Sadly, when you convert to the mod, it does not swap your save data (as far as I know), but you can always take off the mod and play your other save by copying your save data and pasting it back when you switch back. This is just a suggestion, and does not have to be acknowledged at all until you complete the game on this normal dungeon defenders. When you do, try it out to see if you like it, then switch back (by copying and pasting) if you do not. You don't have to do this anyway. It is your choice.
Thx for pointing that out. Great to know. I know Pat said so in a 34 tips video, but now I thought he probably confused for redux. Glad to know he didn't, even though, I don't see that much point in the mechanic.@@Whizz1209
