  • 1. Unpack your Cuphead Collector’s Edition by removing the postcard, cardboard o-sleeve, and Map of the Inkwell Isles from the box.
    2. You will see a decorated cardstock running along the bottom of the box. We’ll call this piece the footlights. Gently pull the footlights down, NOT out.
    3. You will see a cardstock curtain running along the top of the box. We’ll call this piece the curtain. Gently pull the curtain up, NOT out.
    4. Behind the curtain, you’ll find a small space that we’ll call the attic. Inside the attic, you’ll find a piece of cardboard that we’ll call the guide that has labeled paths (“feet” “arms” etc.) and velcro pads. Remove the guide from the attic and set it aside for later.
    5. Using the holes in the tabs, gently pull the cardboard insert OUT of the box. Carefully place the box aside as we unpack the contents of this cardboard insert.
    6. Remove the game from the bottom of the insert.
    7. Carefully remove the marionette box from inside the cardboard insert. Your Cuphead marionette is inside here.
    8. The music box is tucked behind the marionette box in the insert. Remove it now.
    9. Once you’ve removed the game, the marionette box, and the music box, feel free to recycle the cardboard insert.
    10. Open the marionette box and carefully remove the Cuphead marionette.
    11. Your Cuphead marionette consists of three parts: The puppet, the strings, and the control (the piece of wood attached to the top of the strings).
    12. In order to prevent tangling, the strings on your Cuphead marionette ship twisted. Holding the marionette by the control, dangle the puppet. The strings will untwist. Be patient; this process will take about a minute or so.
    13. Once the strings are untwisted, use the leather strap on the control to hang your marionette from a coat hanger, doorknob, or something similar, from a height that will be comfortable for you to work with.
    14. Take the guide you removed from the attic earlier and gently slide it over the strings. Using the labels on the guide, ensure that the proper strings are in the right holes and strap them down using the velcro. You should leave only about 2 inches of string between the guide and the marionette’s straw tip.
    15. Once the guide is fitted properly and the strings are strapped down, spin the top of the strings (between the control and the guide) back around so they don’t get tangled.
    16. Lay the control on top of the guide.
    17. Carefully slide the guide back inside the attic. Make sure your marionette is facing outwards.
    18. Gently push the footlights back up.
    19. Gently push the curtain back down to cover the attic.
    20. Cuphead is ready for the show!
