  • Ahmed Al Sharaa is Syria's new President and we're getting hints of what his government might look like. He's promised a temporary legislative council will pass laws for the time being - and that it will be inclusive of Syria's various groups and factions. The international community is applying pressure to make sure he keeps his promises. But can president Sharaa bring his country together? And will his government be able to improve the lives of the Syrian people - who've been battered by more than a decade of war?
    Presenter: Cyril Vanier
    Guests
Danny Al Baaj - Vice President of the Syrian Forum for Advocacy and Public Relations. He also led the Cabinet of Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister in the late 2000s.
Joshua Landis - Director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma.
Mohammad Al Abdallah - Executive Director of the Syria Justice and Accountability Centre.

I think Al Sharaa is brilliant, don't know that he will be president 4 years from now but I think his actions reflects what is best for getting Syria for the time being. If it goes well the people of Syria may well elect him as their choice for president if they wind up with that type of government, but I like the fact he has a realistic vision for Syria and apparently has a roadmap on how to get there. I personally don't like that he has former Al Queda ties but everybody has to start somewhere and I'm sure he learned all the things he needed to learn on his journey to understand that he is the right person to run Syria right now. I am impressed how pragmatic and intelligent Pres. Al Sharaa is.

He is a liar and the whole world will regret letting him take control of Syria. Do you want to tell me that he and all the people around him suddenly changed on December, 8, 2024. He was ruling part of Syria for few year with a very radical version of Islam. Even if changed, do you think that the people around him changed? If he really changed then he will be eliminated by his gang around him. All what he did till now does not show anything short from a radical Islamic state.

Sanctions were levied against the Assad regime. The Assad regime no longer exists. So sanctions made against the Assad regime should cease immediately. Any applicable sanctions should relate to the country in question. It is not fair to maintain sanctions on a struggling democracy. if there's a perceived problem then sanctions could be imposed.
