Alistair Begg is wrong about the Lord's Supper. Jesus Christ asked us to eat His flesh and drink His blood and where His flesh and Blood are then so is His Spirit. Please read the core relevant passages below of what Jesus Christ, the disbelieving Jews present and St Paul said in the Bible regarding the Lord’s Supper/Holy Communion/Eucharist, then the truth of how the Lord’s Supper can be celebrated as God intended.
      John 6:51-56
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
53 So Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.
      John 6:60-68 excerpts
60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?” 61 But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, “Does this offend you? …64 But among you there are some who do not believe.”… 64 For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe…. 66 Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. 67 So Jesus asked the twelve, “Do you also wish to go away?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”
Mark 14:22-24 The Institution of the Lord’s Supper
22 While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.”
23 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. 24 He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
      1 Corinthians 10:15-16 - St Paul
15 I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
      1 Corinthians 11:19 -20 & 29 - St Paul
19 Indeed, there have to be factions among you, for only so will it become clear who among you are genuine. 20 When you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s supper… 29 For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves.
The way to celebrate the Lord’s Supper as our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ intended is to be a member of the Catholic Church or Orthodox Church. Catholic and Orthodox Priests have received the Sacrament of Holy Orders by a Bishop of apostolic succession and thereby have the faculty to consecrate bread and wine to become the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. There is no other way to obey God’s request to eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus Christ. In the Sacrament of Holy Communion one receives Jesus Christ’s corporeal flesh and blood and His Spirit. Our one true God is most gracious and wise and one should lovingly accept His divine gift because “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you” (Jesus Christ).
      God bless you

1 Corinthians 11:23-33 addresses this. The apostle Paul was not a part of the original Lord's supper, but he talks about receiving this command to observe it, and he also brings this same instruction to the church at Corinth. In verse 27 he says, "...whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord..." "Whoever" implies that more people than just those present at the original Lord's supper would take part in this observance. Again in verse 28 Paul mentions "...a man...", implying the same thing. In verse 33 Paul says, "So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat,..." This is written to the Corinthian church, and Paul is instructing them in how to properly take part in the Lord's supper. By extension then, this goes out to all Christian churches as something in which we are expected to participate. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, " All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." This letter from Paul to the Corinthians then is also instructive to all Christians in any church at any time.

Communion is symbolic. When you eat and drink the elements you are saying "Jesus did this for me". For an unbeliever, partaking of the elements would be nonsense.

Jesus told the disciples that the bread was his body and the wine was hos blood. Jesus was right there sitting with them when he said this so obviously Jesus was the one who showed they were symbols ofhis body and blood. He didntcit himself and bleed. SoJesus gave the interpretation andhe is truth

      Literal vs Figurative
See for yourself, if what Jesus says in the following verses is "Literal"
1- Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every "word of God". (Can you "eat" the Word of God?)
2- Luke 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be "filled". (Does He mean filled with food?)
3- John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the "bread" of life; he who comes to Me will not "hunger", and he who believes in Me will never "thirst". (Is Jesus the Literal bread?)
4: John 6:54 Who so "eats my flesh", and drinks my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day (Does Jesus want us to eat Literal flesh? see 1 and 3 above)
5- John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the "light" of the world. (Is Jesus literal light?)
6- John 10:7 So Jesus said to them again, Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the "door of the sheep". (Is Jesus literal door?)
7- John 10:9 I am the "door": if any man enter in by me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (Does Jesus mean literal door and literal pasture?)
8- John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.(Is Jesus literal shepherd?)
9- John 15:1 I am the true "vine", and My Father is the "vine dresser"(Is Jesus literal vine?)
10- John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the "branches": (are we literal branches?)
11- John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this "temple", and in three days I will raise it up. (Is Jesus literal temple?)
12- John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the "water" that I shall give him shall never thirst. (does Jesus give literal water?)
13- John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and "drink". He that believes on me, as the scripture hath said, "out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water". (Did Jesus mean literal "belly " and literal "rivers"

If in Matthew 26:26 , Jesus speaking at the Last Supper “This is my Body …” “This is my Blood” didn’t really mean what He said … what did it mean?
If the Last Supper was just an instruction … not truth as the words state - who defined that? Who claimed that authority ?
If in John 6: 53-58 , Jesus didn’t mean what the words He spoke state … if He really meant it was just the WORD not the literal …. Who claimed that authority to reinterpret?
If both passages are metaphorical for INSTRUCTION or THE WORD … then TRUTH is a matter of interpretation.
Then - the creation story … Noah and his mission … Moses and his stories … all are left to interpretation - to absurd to be true.
TRUTH - What is truth, then.
