As a seasoned professional in smartphone repair, today, I encountered a commonly seen yet significant issue - a swollen battery in a Huawei P20 Pro. From the outset, the swelling was noticeable, a clear sign of internal battery failure, which can be potentially dangerous if not addressed immediately. It’s important to know that several factors can lead to this problem, such as the use of non-original chargers, exposure to extreme temperatures, or physical impact.

In this repair scenario, the first step involved carefully removing the screws from the top of the device using a star-type screwdriver. Notably, some screws were hidden by adhesive, requiring extra caution. Next, we detached the device's top antenna and the battery connector.
As a professional, I cannot stress enough the danger that a swollen battery presents. It is crucial to get the device to a professional repair shop as soon as possible, as an untreated swollen battery can lead to a battery explosion.
When it came to battery removal, a delicate approach was necessary. Using a plastic card, a pry tool, and isopropyl alcohol, I began detaching the adhesive securing the battery to the device's chassis. Metallic tools were avoided at all costs to prevent the risk of puncturing the battery and potentially losing the phone completely.
Upon successful removal of the battery, I evaluated the extent of the damage. The swelling had caused a break in the FPC connector, which powers the charging port and motherboard, necessitating a replacement.
The process then moved onto the bottom of the device, where the protective shield was removed, revealing a broken flex cable. After replacing this, the new battery was carefully installed, and I was pleased to see the chassis adhesive remained intact - a sign of a successful disassembly process.
Finally, after ensuring all parts were correctly assembled, we powered on the device. The Huawei P20 Pro booted up correctly, a welcome indication that the repair had been successful. With a new battery in place, the phone is now ready to provide reliable service to its owner once again.
This process, while common, requires great caution. As repair professionals, we must always prioritize safety, ensuring each repair is performed with the utmost care to prevent risks.
