Defects - Documents containing missing or incorrect information - Example: Invoice missing the PO number. A spreadsheet containing the wrong numbers Overproduction - more than is immediately required by the customer Waiting - When you don’t have the right parts, information or instructions you need to do the task Non-standard Processing - Using more than is needed to complete the task / When the team uses different steps to complete the same task Transportation - The moving of people, products and information - Anything that must move more than is absolutely necessary is considered waste - One lean project removed 4 minutes of transportation and saved 40,000 dollars Intellect - Underutilizing team members by not matching their skill sets and capabilities with the tasks or work needed - Can also happen when tasks are delegated without adequate training being provided Motion - Excess bending and turning when repeatedly using materials for the job - Relocating materials to a point of use can reduce this type of waste
Great video! I remember the 8 waste by saying T. Timwood = Talent. Transportation, inventory, motion, waiting, overproduction, over processing, and Defects. I love teaching about Lean methodology.
Defects
- Documents containing missing or incorrect information
- Example: Invoice missing the PO number. A spreadsheet containing the wrong numbers
Overproduction
- more than is immediately required by the customer
Waiting
- When you don’t have the right parts, information or instructions you need to do the task
Non-standard Processing
- Using more than is needed to complete the task / When the team uses different steps to complete the same task
Transportation
- The moving of people, products and information
- Anything that must move more than is absolutely necessary is considered waste
- One lean project removed 4 minutes of transportation and saved 40,000 dollars
Intellect
- Underutilizing team members by not matching their skill sets and capabilities with the tasks or work needed
- Can also happen when tasks are delegated without adequate training being provided
Motion
- Excess bending and turning when repeatedly using materials for the job

Awesome, thanks a lot. Really simple, visual and conveys very important info.
I LOVE LEAN 💜💜💜
