Mountain Thanksgiving 2022

- Our big family Thanksgiving gathering at the cabin has dwindled since COVID. 'Seems like a lot of folks have just decided to celebrate at home. Which is okay. It's just a little melancholy to me to see such a long standing family tradition fade away. Daddy always said, "The only thing constant is change." He would also say at every large family gathering, "This group will never again be the same. There will either be someone missing, or someone new. But this exact same group will never again be the same." Daddy was right. But then again? He always was! Thank all of you for taking time to visit with Tali girl and me for a little glimpse of our Mountain Thanksgiving 2022.

👋Hi from southern New Mexico🌶️🌵.... 💖Thanks for the video ...Reminds me of my sister...whom would always cook Turkey on Thanksgiving in camp as they were Elk hunting. She past away 91. This Oct 22 I went to Wyoming to stay with Dawn while Uncle Gus went antelope hunting at age 90. It was a blessing since I hadn't been to Wyoming for 20 some years, they always came down here. Dawn and I had a great visit. Thanks for sharing. From a new subscriber.
First off TheLvablebird. Welcome to The Pungo Prairie! I just cannot even express how cool it is that this video reminds you of your own family Thanksgivings celebrated in their own hunting camps. 91 years upon this planet is evidence in of it's self of a life well lived! Your Uncle Gus sounds to me a man whose hand I would Love to shake! Out on the Plains Antelope hunting at 90! I just Love it! I just Love Wyoming! It's like being on a different planet from where I live. I hunted Pronghorns there for many seasons a long time ago. I know you really enjoyed your return there after so many years had passed. This comment from you is indeed Very Special to me! God Bless You My New Friend from Southern New Mexico!
@@PungoPrairie Thanks Bill and you would love to visit Uncle Gus. Hunted Moose Elk and I brought back a cooler and a half of antelope. My new friend.😊
@@TheLvablebird Now that's the way to restock the freezer!
Spectacular deer harvest!! ❤❤❤
Yes it was! Thank you Leigh!
Always A Great Time to sit down to one of Your Videos!
I love Stuffing, we don't stuff it no more, we just cook it, I miss My Moms, cause She Stuffed it, and all the Birds Flavor absorbs into it.
A Couple Nice Bucks Harvested there!!
You Have A Wonderful CHRISTmas!
Thank You Michigan! I know all those juices from the bird right?! Yes Justin was excited! He has really been enjoying cooking up a bunch of delicious venison dishes and serving them to friends & family. Merry CHRISTmas to you and yours as well my friend!
Bill, another great video! Thanks for sharing. I was late to the show because I am rebuilding my camp kitchen with some changes. Still have it based off of your kitchen. 😜
Can't wait to see the new improved version David! Thank You!
I will definitely get you some pictures.
Merry Christmas my friend.
That must have tasted delicious... 🤤
It was Yann! Wish you had been there to share!
I just woke up and started watching your video and now I am craving turkey! And I am not even a fan of turkey! Everything looked so delicious! Even the oysters! But oyster stuffing sounds awesome! 🤗
Hi Alone! It was a much smaller gathering this year than we have had for the past 40 Thanksgivings or so pre - COVID. Last year it was just Tali girl and me and we roasted the turkey in an iron dutch oven over the campfire. Hope you are staying warm & cozy way up there! When I get back in tonight from this party I am catering I want to see what's up with that side of beef! Thank You & Thanks For Watching!
Fantastic
Thank You Tony! Merry Christmas my friend!
@@PungoPrairie …and you Bill…..I hope it’s all you could wish for 😊👍
Hey Bill! Where the heck are y'all in Virginia? My mother's people are from Southside! Gretna, Va!! LOVING the Appalachian music!! Tell me more!!
My camp is in the western part of the state Leigh, about 20 miles north of Lexington, VA. Our home is in the southeast corner of the state in Pungo, VA.
Aha! Cool! I went to college in east Tennessee and my parents had a vacation home in Blowing Rock, NC, so I've spent some time in the region! 😁
Nice Video! 🍀👍
Thank you & Thanks for watching Eifelfreund!!
It's always dressing even if you "stuff: the bird with it. People from the north call it stuffing. Southern folks call it dressing!!!
Ha! So the debate continues on James. My Mom's side of the family are all from Ohio. When I was a kid and we traveled there for Thanksgiving, my "Yankee" Grandmother made "Oyster Dressing", as she referred to it, which was prepared and then placed in a casserole dish and baked in the oven. Those Thanksgivings we traveled to the mountains of Virginia where my Dad's side of the family are all from, my "Southern" Mam Maw also prepared cubed up stale bread seasoned with sage & other spices, then mixed with diced onions & celery, sauteed in butter to which she would blend in chopped, fresh oysters. Then she would stuff the bird full of what she would refer to as "Oyster Stuffing". Mam Maw's bird looked like the one you see in the thumbnail photo for this video where the "Stuffing" is baked inside the bird except for that part that is protruding and baked outside the bird. It ain't stuffing if it ain't stuffed. So I suppose you are right. The "Stuffed" bird also yielded "Dressing". Whether it be North, South, East or West? As long as the concoction includes fresh oysters baked in the natural juices of the Turkey, I call it Delicious! Thank you for dropping by to visit us here on the Pungo Prairie! God Bless My Friend.
Whats going on Bill been missing videos. Hope you are doing ok?
Hi Billy, I am doing fine. I have just been very busy with the restaurant, a construction project I have been working on all Summer and helping my sister take care of our 96 year old Mom. My time has been totally consumed with all of that. Not even sure that I will be able to set up camp this season. Thank you very much for checking in on me! Hoping to make a new video soon. Hope all is well with you my friend.
@@PungoPrairie God bless you and your family Bill be well my friend!
