Durban water supply crisis hits schools, businesses

Several Durban suburbs are facing ongoing water shortages, with some going without supply for weeks. Schools and businesses are also affected with many relying on private water deliveries to stay operational. Newzroom Afrika's Nobuhle Modise reports.

Maybe... Where are the water tankers getting the water from? The Municipalities have crumbled through incompetence. Town planning has gone out the window. You can't have water diverted to squatter camps or some random Joe is connecting his house to the water and sanitation system without proper plans and proper plumbing done because the system was never designed to handle unplanned development. The ANC is full of politicians and their cadre deployment didn't have highly skilled professionals to manage things needed for good governance. There have been major developments in Durban but the water treatment plants for water and sanitation haven't been upgraded to the extent needed to supply everyone. The systems are under strain just like Eskom... Foresight and planning is just not a skill those in charge have. The water system was never designed to run dry... The pipes themselves should never have air in them but with the water being shut off and turned on, it causes these air pockets to build pressure within the pipes and they burst. Now there are multiple bust pipes everywhere and they keep bursting because there aren't skilled people doing repairs etc. There is corruption with tenders and water tanks and it may even just be sabotage.
