Im 12 years old i love working on small engines i have been watching your videos for a long time i have learned quite a lot from watching your videos 🎉🎉. Keep up the good work!!!😂😂😂😂😅😅
I on January 19 fractured my growth plate and a nother place on the back of my femur a couple inches up from growth plate just slowly recovering can walk some
I started 2 years ago when i was 14 my dad is always saying “can you move your machines out of the garage there taking up space” I just got a Husqvarna 140B back pack blower to work on put a new spark plug in and away she went
Your videos are always great! learned so much from you! you are my go to youtuber I have fixed many engines with your knowledge that you are sharing!! Love your videos keep it up!
If the key isn't sheared, then its definitely the module. I have had this happen on a stihl fs55rc trimmer before where the replacement ignition module had different timing than the original one. Luckily I was able to fix the original ignition module and so far it is working great.
Great video. Can’t wait to see what the resolution is. Could be a fly wheel issue. Maybe that’s why they replaced the bump head. Bumped it way too hard?? Again you make it look easy. Thank you for your videos
I enjoy your video's. Spark plug gap look a little small but look like a good spark. I would also make sure the head at the end of the trimer is loose. I would also check those kill wires connection. After that I don't know.
Coil from scamazon crime… Same scenario, I bought a fs85 from someone for $50. It had a no name carb & coil with the OEM parts in a bag. I took the original carb & rebuilt it using the diaphragms in the cheapo scamazon carb, slightly shortened the og coil & reattached the boot (he ripped the boot off) removing it.. It fired right up & ran great with the OEM parts
Great show Mr. Hg yes I think you're right it is the fly wheel key we have everything we got spark we got fuel going into the engine we have compression.
Absolutely amazes me call the quality control of a lot of these machines now have gone really downhill really quick. And for every 50 machines that are made as one that has an issue. Call I guess that's why the hardware stores asked you to buy an extended warranty
IMO, check coil (gap) and the little wire from switch to coil sometimes wears through and grounds out with movement against the block. I have replace a lot of those little wires that were shorting intermittently against the fins. Also obviously would check the flywheel and key. It’s almost always something simple. Lol
I have taken the muffler off to check the spark arrester screen,if it's ok I try to start it before I put the muffer back on,had the trimmer fire right up.
I remember the short vide on this franken-trimmer lol. It's the new SRM-212530 (210/225/230) combo special. Given the prior person's abby-normal approach to this machine, it is anyone's guess what may have been replaced with the wrong part. I know the flywheel on the 210, 225, and 230s are not compatible, and last I recall, the 230 had a larger clutch that wouldn't fit inside the drum for the 210, which I believe is the front cover on this one. Unless they went through the trouble of removing the drum - which is a pain in the butt - I suspect they put something wrong on the flywheel side. Usually, with an air leak the machine will still run but will run rough, but doesn't hurt to pressure& vacuum test the block. I know a lot of your videos are filmed quite in advance, but I would remove the block and make sure the correct flywheel & clutch are installed - the 230 would have 2 screws holding the clutch to the flywheel and the 210 it would be a smaller screw-on style.
Great video! Ever heard of Kawasaki brand Trimmers and blowers? Picked up a Trimmer, Edger, and blower today for free. All 2005 vintage, but look practically new. All need purge bulbs, and a carb clean. Looking forward to getting them going.
The few times I had spark, compression, and a good carb and the engine would not start or just fire every once in a while was due to a sheared flywheel key which allowed the flywheel to slip out of place and mistime the spark.
Sounds like timing. I've never seen a sheared flywheel key on a trimmer, but I guess it could happen. Or, like someone else mentioned, maybe the new coil has the wrong timing. It could also be a problem with the carb. I had an Echo trimmer with a carb that I disassembled, and when I put it back together, I forgot the little bushing that the throttle plate rides on. It was tiny. I didn't lose it. It was in the collection of parts I saved. Without that bushing, the carb needle rides too low, making the mixture lean. Once I figured out what it was, I managed to get it running. So if someone made the same mistake I did, that bushing could be missing.
To remove the limiter caps, I heat the tip of a precision slotted screwdriver til it glows red, insert it into the cap, let it cool down for about 30 seconds and then pull it out.
As always, an excellent video - love the way you stressed - just get a new carb...good advice! Looking forward to the follow up video...what a Frankenstein Echo with the mish-mash of parts...SRM-230 Yamabico main body - newer Orange back cover, SRM-225 air box & cover? D Handle and throttle grip looked like it was the soft over mold from new units and possibly a sealed gearbox from the newest 225/266 models...I likely wouldn't have taken it in from a customer - you're braver than I am! 🤞😊
Just have to tear it downto see. Everything has it's quirks, even new stuff. Might be the coil since the other one was tied to the trummer. WE shall see what you find out. Happy weekend!
When the coil was replaced, was it installed correctly? Some coils can be installed with the wrong side toward the engine and it throws the timing off. There could also be a problem with the gap between the coil and flywheel.
I've only shown it a couple times in my vids but it's worth noting that while you had the muffler off ,try running/starting the machine. If it does run, use map gas or propane to burn out the catalytic converter. Same as you would do to the spark arrestor screen. It works miracles. Great vid and I love finding the problem more than the repair. I'm weird. Lol. Zombie Dave
I have a "one time rule" with those carbs (including mower carbs.) If it isn't running or is running poorly, I will take it apart one time and clean it out. If it works, great. If it doesn't work, or it turns out it needs replacement parts, I just replace them. I could buy the rebuild kit, but for the price, a new carb really doesn't cost much more, and I am simply bolting it on. I used to spend time to rebuild carbs, but with the cheap eBay carbs that work just fine (and are often times more adjustable,) it just isn't worth it anymore unless it is something old or obscure to where a replacement isn't easily available.
Looks like someone ordered an ignition module from Scamazon. The biggest clue is the wire to the spark plug is way too long. My guess is that the ignition coil is installed backwards.
If it's anything like a Stihl hedge trimmer that I repaired then it probably has the wrong ignition coil fitted because both the crankshaft & ignition coil were a matched set meaning that the aftermarket ignition coil which I ordered was the incorrect part because you need to refer to the serial number to order the correct parts despite it having the same model number. Or it could be caused by a sheared flywheel key, a crankcase air leak or the carburettors main jets check valve is leaking fuel so check all of that, you could be up for a new carburettor !
Great video. All of your videoes are. Did you get this fixed? Please elaborate on what the problem was. I have about 6 of these old Echoes and started to buy a new SRM 225. I decided against it and wanted to use the money to repair mmy old ones. I have one that will not start like this, so I'm interested. Keep up the good work.
thank you I appreciate your time here. The person who had it, ended up using the wrong ignition coil. I ended up ordering and installing the correct coil, and ultimately I also replaced the carb and spark plug.
Hey I was just wondering if you know if most Echo metering diaphragms are the same? I have a trimmer, edger, and blower that could use a tune up so was thinking of just buying parts in bulk. Thanks!
Self control, lol. That Honda GCV 160 I have been asking questions about belongs to a friend of mine. I offered to help him out and get it running, and I am still trying 15 months later. It is on an old Snapper self propelled push mower. Every part in the fuel system but, the tank, cap, and governor spring is new, but it will only run fully choked. It runs perfect as long as it is choked. smh I also just found another issue. The self propel was set to 3, and I just checked to make sure it was working, but never tried changing the speed. When I tried to turn the lever to the highest speeds, it will not stay in place. The self propel system switches gears via a vertical disk that moves left to right on a shaft, and is turned by a horizontal disk connected to the engine by a belt. The vertical disk is seized on the shaft and does not move. Do you know any tricks for breaking them loose without doing any damage?
I actually tackling this problem myself with my Husqvarna string trimmer. Im just waiting for my diaphragm to come in the mail and see if that fixes it. But it doesn't im prepared to take the whole thing apart and clean it.
That;s a head scratcher. Doesn't exhibit some of the tell tale signs of bad timing so if it's timing, it's not off by much, Would have liked to see you externally squirt fuel into carb which, if successful. would indicate a fuel feed problem. Then I would look for a vacuum leak.
OK, here is my guess. The ignition wire/boot making poor contact. As long as coil gap on magnets is within spec. Other than that, try an Exorcism 😯You did a systematic diagnostic eval so to me, inconsistent weak spark r/t resistance. Great video though!!!
@@HomeGaragechannelsounds awesome mate but yeah don,t give up on it that easily and i reckon the next place could be looking into the cylinder tension and it,s screws as they do sometimes get loose or maybe someone has opened it up before you.
The OEM carbs are the best, they are usually Zama brand. Whereas these cheaper carbs are REALLY CHEAP lol. So, I’d rather rebuild the OEM carb, or buy an original OEM carb.

The module is definitely suspect
I have taken the muffler off to check the spark arrester screen,if it's ok I try to start it before I put the muffer back on,had the trimmer fire right up.
yes I've tried that trick before. This one however was more spark related in the end.

this one is related to the new ignition coil, and it's more about the quality of the spark.
