The war on crime has failed in California...at least voting yes on Prop36 would repeal some of Prop47. I mean, unless you like historic homelessness and shoplifting without penalties?
War on drugs on federal level was a myth. the threshold for all arrests was traffickers and dealers. Marijuana in the 80's was 450 lbs., Cocaine - 10 bits, crack- 10 bits, meth- 10 bits. The remainder were charged on the state with first time offenders getting drug addict diversion on the state level for lower amounts. Drug penalties aim to stop illegal dealing, organized crime, etc. There is.still a war on drugs in Mexico going on. They not have armies, hitmen, thousands killed over drug smuggling of fentanyl, cocaine, meth.
This video sucks. It didn't explain it at all. It changes it so people with 2 priors can be charged with a felony (and prison) for any amount of shoplifting or drug posession. It allows drug users to be forced into rehabilitation and if they fail the program they go to prison. But California doesn't have enough of these programs. And more people in Prison cuts the funding for these rehabilitation programs since we have to pay to put people back in prisons. And all studies show forced drug programs don't work. People have to want to do it and even then alot of people relapse. Also the legislature already passed laws to help tackle these issues in a a smarter way focused on organized crime and continue to and Newson is against it, but doesn't have time to campaign against it.
@@chrislastnam6822 I’d rather they be fined and have pay money to the government than us spending money to house and feed them. We pay enough taxes as it is.

If some thieves were in jail there would be less theft and people pay for theft in higher prices . Prop 47 made theft of under $950 a misdemeanor: it didn't make it legal. Misdemeanors should result in 6 months in jail and a permanent record as a thief.
but thats not how it turned out or is. now its not worth the officers time and we have encouraged smash and grabs. consequences. Good intentions, bad outcomes
@@ABishop681 The voter's intention was to prosecute misdemeanor thefts and the DA is responsible if they're not being prosecuted. Gascon doesn't have good intentions.
@@chrislastnam6822 the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Stealing is not allowed in polite society at any amount and certainly not $950. No one is stealing an apple. We have food banks and more
I’m split on this. I care about the drug aspect but I don’t really care about the theft. I don’t feel the same for both crimes.
U don't care until you wake up in the morning and walk to your car in a garaged carport and find your car broken into twice within a month and the police don't even bother to come out after you call them .....Long Beach ca

The war on drugs failed.
Voting No.
Shoplifter detected
How do we deal with the problem?
Yes!!!!!!
Good. DTLA could be a world famous attraction on the level of San Francisco or New York; but all these people you want free ruin it.

Most thieves steal at least dozens of times before they're caught and yes I do' want thieves in jail.
Have you been to a CVS lately? Everything is locked up for a reason.
@@chrislastnam6822 I’d rather they be fined and have pay money to the government than us spending money to house and feed them. We pay enough taxes as it is.
@@Netttty I have gone to my local CVS and I haven’t seen “everything” locked up.
@@kenny2006sp Why do some people always want more money going to the government? Thieves probably commit 100 thefts for every time they get caught and now they don't get prosecuted when caught. If there's no punishment , there's no deterrent. How about you buy me lots of ruby, gold , diamond, emerald sapphire jewelry to replace the jewelry burglars took from my house if you think theft is permissible? If some thieves were in jail there would be less theft and people pay for theft in higher prices . Thieves should have criminal records so we can know who not to hire to work in our houses or businesses.

Close the border.
We need to make jails smaller, so that people understand that they don’t want to be in jail in a small little space and that may make them think twice about committing a crime.
