15:30 - I went to school with a footballer (Matt Ingram, first team keeper for Wycombe for a few years, now been back up keeper for a few different championship clubs). When he first arrived on the game (in like 2010?) the game said he had a bunch of aggressive traits, like media handling etc. Was so funny because he is THE MOST mild mannered person imaginable.
I know a lot of young players that are on fm,the reality is that if they are not going to become good players, the stats are pretty random, and even height Is screwed up,i know a guy that is 190cm (6'3'') that Is listed 168cm (5'6")
The best video ever made by someone of their own freewill. I have 100s of hours in the last 4 FMs and this was probably the first time I've understood anything at all about tutoring/mentoring.
Interaction with the players can change their personality. My midfield wonderkid went from "fairly determined" to "perfectionist" after he wanted a new contract, but I refused by saying his work rate wasn't good enough.
I'm 40 mmffflleesomething years old. I've been playing this game, on and off, since, well, the original Football Manager on the ZX Spectrum. Then, obviously, the original Championship Manager, with fake players, on the Atari. Took a break because of kids in FM13 and just came back to the game, strangely enough, about a month BEFORE this quarantine shit kicked off. The games changed quite considerably since then and I've been looking for some decent videos to explain them for me. I can safely say these are the best. I've tried Bustthenet but I've got to say these have the right amount of humour and info to make the video interesting. You know your stuff, explain it well. Hell, I'm even tempted to find out what the hell Twitch is. Top work fella. Although, after all that embarrassing fan boy gushing, it'd be interesting to see you try a proper LLM save.
Just found your videos couple of days ago, but you are quickly becoming one of my favourite channels on UA-cam! Simple, but still very detailed guides! Thank you and keep it up!
You should do a video where you talk about screens in football manager that people may not know about but are very useful. For example; in the finances section you can see your projections and your next three windows transfer budget projections. Particularly useful if you plan your signings a year in advance like I do :)
Consistency can change, I've seen it numerous times since the hidden attribute exists as such, injury proneness, however, is there for good, coming from a guy who's played every FM/CM since 2001.
Well Zea this was quite handy to again learn the mechanics, my Hapoel team has allot of young guns but they need mentoring from the small group of experienced players I have, so let's see what effect it has on them.
I know one of next videos is about finances, i would also suggest one about roles/duties. Like when to use which role and which duty into tactic, whats a good balance, how many support/attack/defend duties etc. And its impact on tactics instructions
Fantastic video as always! This is my first time playing FM, and your videos have helped so much with understanding the game. Quick question about your "rule of thumb" though. I have two senior defensive/central midfielders with the model citizen personality trait, as well as significant influence. Because of their position they are both in the defensive training unit. Would there be any negative effects if i moved one of these players from the defensive unit to the attacking unit in order to mentor my young attacking players?
Brazilliant 😆👌lovin your content ! Holy mary mother have mercy the mentoring helps so much! ...are you my dad?......my Southampton save is going exceptionally well..first season : finished 7th harrison reed djenepo yan valery played really well ..best players hojbjerb prowse Redmond..season 2 iam in 12 games played I've won 7 in a row currently laying 5th ...michael obefemi amazing youngster coming through..weigl at DM benkoviv CB jonathan david CF / att mid my only signings 🙏🙏...oh and haven't ate for 3 days or slept..a great way to lose weight fm 2020..iam currently 3 stone..
Will it be okay to put a professional player with significant impact in a group with three youngsters and a mid-twenty’s player with a balanced personality and an average impact?
Main issues I still have with the mentoring system is that you can't have a youngster train with the other youngsters and be mentored or chose if player traits are imparted or not anymore. Probably more realistic though to have less control. And now I have to way off if I want the youngster to get mentored first then then enjoy the more attribute raising and heavier training of the youngsters or the other way around.
Ngl I've had pretty much no luck in molding young players through personality with mentoring, the changes in personality just seem so random so I don't even pay attention to that part. I just use mentoring for developing bonds between players, so I have a DCs group, wide left, wide right, MCs, and an AMCs + STs group. I find it so rare to have a significant player with a good personality and a young player in the first team with light influence that I just don't bother. I want tutoring back, even if they nerfed it that'd be ok :(
I'm now integrating all of this into my current save - along with the lump them all in together for bond creation. The final result is smaller groups, which is better for mentoring but the average age of my squad is 23.08 :(
Are the groups locked to what squad they are in? Seems silly. I want me 16 years old to be mentored by my 33-year-old striker but I have to move the 16 YO to my first team...but I thought his progression was better suited to the under 18s...so confusing.
your vid was really helpful, thanks :D Do you have any experience how long it takes until a young player develop the same personality as the mentor? I´ve heard that in some cases you have to wait 3 to 4 years - thats a hell of a long time
So one of my mentors has 16 determination and is resolute and both of the youth players he teaches reached 16 determination and are both resolute rn(after one year), is there any reason to continue their mentoring?
hey man, great job with the videos. i have a question, if you can reply would be nice. In a save can we find if a club has been bought, like for a shaik or someone? thanks
Not an area I have looked at for fm20...but I just went to the section and got my assistant to do it...i didnt see an option in the staff responsibilities...
How do I stop my players with high influence losing their good personalities to players with weak influence? What pisses me off is that my "tutors" are getting rekt by my tutees.
Hey Z. Im training team overall, team tactics and teamwork. But! Can you tell me if i create bonds(green connections) with my defensive players. Will that have greater effect on playing offside trap?
Not sure I saw anything about this. If I have a player, who has been with the club for a while and still doesn't fit into any social group, can putting him into a mentoring group help him fit in?
Thanks for this very insightful but has got me wondering about my captain and vice-captain.... We all know that we need to select captains with the best leadership and teamwork, but what do they actually do?? surely mentoring would be something expected of them? can you maybe do a video on this? is there settings and specific tasks that we should request the captain to do??
Does the fact he is highly influential matter as only 3 are allocated in this category. You have 6 or 7 groups, so are these filled with just average players? Also do you move u18 players into the first team to mentor them?
Something I find really annoying is when I see the training report of my wonderkids and find out that they don't enjoy or they don't feel comfortable when playing big matches. So I put these wonderkids on a group with my tram leader who enjoys big matches. Will that make that hidden attribute dissapear or is it completely pointless. I struggled to find any info on this topic. Any help is greatly appreciated.
That's great, but what if you have no older players? I'm in League 2 playing as Kettering Town FC. I got promoted twice with them, by winning the division twice. I've decided to gut the team and get kids from all the big clubs.(Fired 23 existing, brought in 27 new. I had about $2 million in the bank, don't judge....). Kids with good outlooks and plenty skill. I now I have a bunch of 18yr. old players that are good and we are winning (2nd place after 18 games and we're about to play Man City for a spot in the Carabao Cup Semis). I'd like for the starters to influence the others. Will this same thought work considering they're all around the same age, but the only difference is squad social standing?
So it depends on how healthy (not physical health but in a sustainability perspective) your squad grows as seasons go. Hierarchy must be balances aswell if you have your teamleaders are your starting CD and GK then your defense is organised well but your attacking unit may lack strong leaders organizing the attack. It is also good for mentoring, CD,MC and AMR/STC team leaders not only provides good influence on the field but also a balanced mentoring influence off the field. So picking your high ability players with good personality and leadership attribute is crucial on the long term.
I have recently started working on mentoring at u23 and u18 levels, not sure if it will work but have the low personality players on your team on low agreed playing times for lower influence. Not 100% certain if this will work though
I have a question how do you know to buy to better your club or to strengthen a specific area? I am managing anderlecht in belgium and don't know who to sign or sell
FM Base I’m just getting back into FM, wasted my youth playing this. Remember in the past tutoring was affected by personality type, if you had contrasting personalities then they sometimes rejected the tutor, wondering if similar outcomes could be expected in mentioning e.g. contrasting personalities increases the chance of negative outcomes/less chance of adopting personality changes or traits
i can't believe i missed this for 4 seasons, most of my wonderkids were losing determination and i didn't know what to do, i even had Cristiano Ronaldo on my team for a season and didn't take advantage of the mentoring, fuck.
You can put the players you want to mentor though into the first team squad, and then make them available for the U23 squad. This way they train with the first team and can be in the mentoring program but still play reserve football.
hey zeeland, what if I don't have many determined veterans, but I have enough determined youngsters to put 3 in a mentoring group with an unambicious youngster?
IIIT'S TIIME What about 15/16 years old players? Is it worth to put them in first squad for mentoring and make them available for u18? btw thank you for those videos!!
i know the game is a simulation from real life and there is definitly a mentoring system in real life but does anyone knows a current star that was mentored by senior star when he was young?
my only objection in mentoring is this , let's say that you have a youngster defender with 19 determination and your highly influental defender has 16 determination why he has to affect youngster determination and eventually the youngster lose 3 points of his determination??
so, what if you have a lot of young players with great determination and personalities, plus some fairly meh team leaders with good influence? Is it worth doing?
Zealand damn. Let’s hope so because the average age of my Swansea team is 21! I’ve also found a way to make a team accept any transfer offer for any player if they negotiate. Fancy a saddening fm video?)
'Once you figured it out it kinda ruined the game' nonsense it made it better I wan't my Football Manager experience to be easier. The new mentoring is bollocks, I can't turn my undetermined wonderkid into a model citizen now. It's Shite!
it isn't that easy. Try it and you will notice that sometimes there is no increase and sometimes you might even do more harm. I have played this game a lot and the mentoring has a slow impact. Now tutoring was OP broken.

YES
Your channel is so underrated. Keep it coming. Stay safe
Just found your videos couple of days ago, but you are quickly becoming one of my favourite channels on UA-cam! Simple, but still very detailed guides! Thank you and keep it up!
Injury proneness definitely changes, had sane when I was with Everton, didn’t get injured for a good season and a half, and the trait disappeared
Just found your channel, where tf have I been!!! Huge help brother. Thank you
Bust the net is pretty cool too :P
Just catching up on lots of yours today and enjoying the presentation and the info!

Go to Team Report, then Squad Depth. You'll see which areas are strong and how many options you have in each position.
Thank you! And how do i know based on that who to buy and what is to expensive etc?
Do personality type and social group affect the ability for influence to be passed down?

so if i have a young player that has the model citizen, i shouldnt mentor them?
Why don’t you make a subscribers online save. Where you chose a league and pick 20 subscribers to compete in.
While you're in "quarantine" the rest of us are "social distancing" or "shielding". Is this just terminology?
Can you only mentor senior squad players? I’m managing Chelsea and want Giroud to mentor my u-23 strikers
Since the players only train within their squad, they can't mentor players from other squads in training no
