Eindhoven (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɛi̯ntɦoːvə(n)] ) is a municipality and a city in the south of the Netherlands, originally at the confluence of the Dommel and Gender streams. The Gender was dammed short of the city centre in the 1950s and the Dommel still runs through the city. The city has a population of 223,220 in January 2015, making it the fifth-largest municipality of the Netherlands and the largest in the province of North Brabant.
Neighbouring cities and towns include Asten, Son en Breugel, Nuenen, Geldrop-Mierlo, Heeze-Leende, Waalre, Veldhoven, Eersel, Oirschot and Best. The agglomeration has a population of 337,487. The metropolitan area consists of 419,045 inhabitants. The city region has a population of 753,426. Also, Eindhoven is located in the Brabantse Stedenrij, a combined metropolitan area with about 2 million inhabitants.
Name
The name Eindhoven derives from the contraction of the regional words eind (meaning "last" or "end") and hove (or hoeve, a section of some 14 hectares of land). Toponymically, eind occurs commonly as a prefix and postfix in local place- and streetnames. A "hove" comprised a parcel of land which a local lord might lease to private persons (such as farmers). Given that a string of such parcels existed around Woensel, the name Eindhoven may have originated with the meaning "last hoves on the land of Woensel".

Eindhoven, my home town. Last time I was around it was 12 years ago, I live somewhere else now. But I cannot believe how it has changed. As Theo Maassen put it, Eindhoven is de mooiste stad van de wereld. And one of the most important cities in the world, too. It's as relevant in IT as Silicon Valley in California. One year from now, every phone, PC, laptop you buy, will have a CPU that was made from a machine built in Veldhoven, right next to Eindhoven. If you buy a BMW, Porsche or Mercedes, it will feature chips by a company from Eindhoven. And they still call us farmers in Holland, because of our strong accent. In the Dutch binocular, buren. BOEREN, BOEREN! And proud of it. Big PSV fan, too. The soccer team from Eindhoven.

I love this cool place Eindhoven city. i love Netherlands.
I love Eindhoven. It doesn't really have a beautiful old architecture or a nice old town, but I really like the modern style of it. The people there are SO friendly and nearly everyone speaks good english. It's also Excellent for nightlife. Three crazy craft-beer-bars, posh cocktail bars, hipster coffee places, international restaurants, it got everything. It's also perfect for shopping and just a tip, if you have one more day go to Den Bosch also or the national park with its sand dunes nearby.
The video is not showing how the city is beautiful the train stations the hotels the malls the highways the towers the roads what's the most amazing is how the people are very friendly beautiful smiles honest the patience the Nederlands ❤️
My dad was near Eindhoven in A Company of the Calgary Highlanders on September 29th, 1944 when he was wounded. He had very poor hearing for the remainder of his life from that day forward until he died in March 2001.

@@Lunavii_Cellest Maybe that's why, even today, I enjoy the sound of loud rock music such as Judas Priest. I was 11 years old when I watched The Beatles perform on TV during the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9th, 1964 and instantly became an avid fan of the sound of electric guitar.
I grew up here and have lots of memories but all memories are build away. Theo Maassen once said, Eindhoven is a ugly city but it's my city. Even that I can't say anymore. I moved away a few years ago. Still I enjoyed this video. At least some things are still recognizable. Thanx

Hi Ferry Freeman, thanks for the high quality video. I am visiting Netherland soon, and trying to prepare myself with the traffic culture there. I do have a few questions about this video:
@13:22 - The sign indicate cyclist to use indirect left turn. Is it normal for "local" to turn directly like you did?
@ 24:33 - The bike path you are on seems to be one direction only. Is the oncoming cyclist going the wrong way?
@ 37:01 - The car seems to be making an illegal turn into a "one way" street (except cyclist). Am I right, and how often these happen?
Hi Tony L. great you like the video, I hope I'm not your role-model for how to ride a bike in Holland😉 @13:22 You should stop and ride with the other traffic to cross the road (not like me). @ 24:33 the other cyclist should not cycle there because it's a one-way street. @ 37:01 the car is in the wrong but not a real problem for the other users of the road, he could get a fine when spotted by the police 🚔.. Hope you have a great time in The Netherlands. Holland is one of the safest places in the world to ride a bike so don't worry to much just follow the crowd of bicycles😉

Hi Silvina, the video is just a few months old. Most of the fall is pretty wet in the Neterlands so be sure to take an umbrella with you ;) I can't make any promises for what the temperture will be ofcourse but it will probable be a bit soft and not to cold at first. I do not see any motorized vehicles or bikes. Is it because of special event/day or it is totally normal to have less car?
There where some at the beginning and throughout the video. But yes we there are less cars in the cities here. (we still have big traffic issues though, but just not in the video)
In the middle its great with not a lot of cars but just a bit out of the middle there are lots of cars and on the small highway between eindhoven and helmond its really bad and every day there is congestion and it can take over 15 minutes sometimes just waiting.

I worked there 20 years ago as a schilder near PSV on Oud Wensel, i spent every day on my bike exploring ,such a beautiful place,it has changed a lot,video is a bit strange,like a dogs eye view,i want to pee on a lamp post now.
