I agree, it’s a beautiful ball park but it’s just a really bad location. I wish we could just magically place the K downtown with the parking needed to thrive
Yeah why do we need anything new let’s just hang onto the old stadium and the old way of doing things. I mean we’ve never done it that way before change is too expensive and scary and our town doesn’t deserve a nice new downtown stadium.
Some of my most cherished memories happened at Kauffman, including seeing the Royals win the 2014 Pennant with my brother. Kauffman has a reputation for being one of the most beautiful and iconic ballparks in the country. Only greedy politicians and real estate developers would even consider replacing it.
Royals Stadium is a beautiful ballpark! Great parking, great location. Anyone I've been with who are visiting for the first time all gush about what a great place it is to watch baseball. If you've been to StL to see a game you know what a pain in the a** it is to get out of there. Not so in KC. It would be stupid to leave The K.
She's absolutely correct. Nothing wrong with the stadium we have now. Plus you're not going to have the kind parking we have now. Are they thinking about all the families that will need to be displaced?
The stadium we have is amazing. Its out of the way of diwntown and there is plenty of parking without having to demolish historic buildings. Moving downtown will eliminate tailgating! I don't see any reason to move.
They need to stay in Kauffman. It’s a better location anyway. They are messing up a good thing with the side by side stadiums. It takes some nerve to be as bad as they are and do this.
I think they should stay at the K for as long as they can, then eventually build a new stadium for them in KC (but still at the Truman sports complex). After all, that complex still has plenty of room, and by the looks of it, KC isn't getting another sports team anytime soon. Then, maybe keep the old one as a historic landmark, and offer tours for it (by charging gusts and visitors). That way you're still making money on that stadium, even though no games are being held. (I personallly think NYC, could've done this with the OG Yankee stadium, instead of tearing it down and building a new identical one right across from where the old one stood. A lot of Yankees and baseball fans are still pretty sour about this to this day, as am I. Tearing down history, and not keeping it). And again, with all of that room in the sports complex, mainly taken up by parking, I think the Royals could pull it off). I come from St. Louis, where the Cardinals play downtown, where they've had all of their stadiums built. Obviously, when Busch Stadium III was being built, they had to demolish the cookie cutter stadium it to make room for it, since it would've been pretty crowded. So that's why it wouldn't have worked to try and keep the old one next to the new one, because it's located downtown. So again, I think KC could pull it off. Plus, Kauffman is a unique and beautifully designed stadium, that has stood the test of time since the 70s, baseball fans and historians would be able to rejoice! Or even better yet, if they're still adamant about building a new stadium, just build it on the other side of KCMO. Even though they're not playing in KCMO, they're still a part of the Kansas City Metropolitan area. More room, and better yet, you can still try to build it as close to the city as possible, without putting it RIGHT into downtown. That traffic...I can only imagine the nightmare that would be. STL is already a mess with Cardinals and Blues games happening downtown. I can't imagine what it would be like for Chiefs game in October AND if the Royals made the playoffs. But, knowing that this world is built and revolves around money, I suspect the owners and other clients to do whatever the f*ck and not give a damn about the fans, commute or other hazards that revolve around sports teams playing downtown. The Royals may not have as many championships as the Cardinals, but they and the Chiefs have better logistics when it comes to game days. I've been to both Kauffman and Arrowhead, and have had amazing times at both. I just hope the Royals organization does the right thing. For the fans and for themselves.
The money is NOT going back into the ball club and the economic impact is an absolute falsehood. There are so many studies done that have proven the impact is nowhere near the cost of the stadium, that is just someone voters are told to create some doubt and get their vote. If you want a competitive ballpark the owner spends money on payroll and development in the minor league system and a new stadium has nothing to do with raising payroll
It's always "I'll pay a little more here" and later it'll be "a little more here" or "a little more there". No. Just stop. When does it stop? We already pay an INSANE amount of taxes. Why should taxpayers pay to build a stadium, or two stadiums and then have to buy tickets to see games at the stadium that they just paid for?
terrible idea to relocate! Downtown is for other businesses to conduct business and why do you need more traffic problems and parking problems? This is the most ridiculous selfish idea ! our country just nearly missed a government default because of reckless spending and here we are talking about some useless idea of relocating a perfectly fine location of a sports stadium to a small downtown! There is money that could be spent on helping low income families and homeless build them rehab and shelters and affordable housing!
Downtown is a cluster fuck. Kauffman stadium has 4 world series, beautiful stadium. Taxes dont need to go to a new stadium after renevating. If they are so hot on spending money how bout spending money for real baseball players like Eric Hosmer or Mike Trout. Bad thinking from a new gay owner from california politics. This is missouri and proud red state.
That should be a law, like *RIGHT NOW.* Finance your own stadiums. It should be the law of the land. We have cities who cant pay their teachers, their firefighters, their cops, etc. These billionaire owners should never ask the public to finance a stadium in this day n' age. The only thing they should be allowed to get from govt is the land to build it on. Everything else is *on the owner's dime*
So many ways people could waste money... Kauffman Stadium is one of the most beautiful stadiums out there, and yet you get people who want to move them downtown. AND, the sketch I have seen of the proposed ballpark are just plain HIDEOUS. Stupidity. Don't do it.
As a long-time Royals fan (since 1969) and one who has lived in many other cities, I've never seen such a great sports complex as the one in KC. Easy to get to, plenty of parking, etc. Building a new stadium downtown would be crazy and unnecessary! I can't imagine the KC area fans voting for such...
I have lived in Kansas City all my life. I remember when we had a downtown stadium. it was awful. No places to park, and inconvenient to get to and from. Then there was a study done to find a perfect location for a stadium which was convenient for all no matter from where they were coming from to get to and with plenty of safe parking. (the best of both worlds). As a result we built what was considered to be the most beautiful stadium in the United States. Now we want to go back and repeat the mistakes of the past with a stadium downtown and all the difficulties and safety issues we had. It's already horrible enough to find a way to get around downtown when something is going on at T-Mobile center. It will be twice as bad if we put a stadium downtown also. Rather than mess up our downtown even more why not use the money instead to provide people living and staying downtown a way to get to the present stadium.
I grew up in KC and went to many games at Kauffman. This is a terrible idea. The stadiums are fine where they are for one simple reason. Parking. Granted, I haven't been to Arrowhead in over two decades, but it could use some work from what I see on TV. Kauffman is absolutely incredible, though! I live in Nashville now and getting to either the Titans, Predators or Sounds (AAA) stadiums are incredibly laborious and expensive. Downtown stadiums, while very pretty, are such a hassle to get to and in my experience, there's nothing better than walking a few hundred yards to get in. Easy and convenient. (Let's not even mention getting out and back home from downtown.)
There is no other part of the Metro that is even remotely close to being on Johnson County's level. Only KCMO's urban core is capable of putting the Missouri side slightly on the map in comparison. And thats only because of a few projects that were built there by Johnson County men and their companies. The Plaza, Crown Center, WW1 memorial, T-mobile center, etc. You want to give the Missouri side a little trophy for themselves to sit at the big boy table? Then put the Stadium there, and build alot more entertainment as well. Im tired of our Downtown being so pathetic.
Harsh…coming from a STL guy that lives in KC currently for school; downtown KC is honestly not too shab. It definitely feels smaller, but embraces that fact quite well. For example, the streetcar makes for 3-4 good zones of entertainment and dining and allows free transportation between them all. My outside opinion is KC needs a downtown stadium and in the same construction effort needs to give the city infrastructure an overhaul. Bc without it, it would be a cluster fuck. There is zero shot downtown is capable of supporting the traffic, parking, dining needs of a stadium as it stands now. It clearly wasn’t designed for that kind of environment. That’s why NHL and NBA sit and laugh at the city for building an arena nearly 15 years ago not realizing its not all about the building. So it’s kinda an oxymoron. The current situation is pretty bogus, but a downtown modernized revamp would be a logistical nightmare. I see why the city and team forever live in a state of mediocrity…
@@samhowell6729 I can tell you right now, Johnson County, Kansas only has half the population that WSU projects it to grow to in the next couple decades and its already far more densely populated than anywhere in KCMO. Its also projected to dramtically surpass the population of every county in MO including the St. Louis area. Johnson County politicians know that their residents control almost all of KCs economy and that their real estate and infrastructure are already leagues ahead. You can already see the data on places like the plaza (built by johnson county) now losing popularity just because of the fact that it isnt inside of Johnson County. JOCO politicians are taking advantage of this and are building giant plazas of their own in Lenexa and Overland Park now. Theyre going to push KCMO out of the limelight completely within a decade or two unless we get a new mayor and city council who are willing to entice all the developers who keep going to Overland Park, and gentrify the urban core so that it stops scaring away the high income people.
