Summary: "The Seven Sermons to the Dead" is a unique and compelling section within "The Red Book," which is a larger and significant work by renowned Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. Composed in 1916, these seven sermons convey some of Jung's most complex and profound ideas, inspired by Gnostic traditions.
In this portion of the work, Jung stages a dialogue with the "dead," representing departed souls visiting his home in Zurich, driven by a spiritual quest to understand God. It provides a framework for Jung to delve into his groundbreaking concepts on the nature of the psyche, individuation, the reconciliation of opposites, and the spiritual dimensions of human existence.
The sermons touch upon a series of interconnected and layered concepts:
1 Abraxas: A god who transcends the duality of good and evil, embodying both attributes.
2 Pleroma: A state of perfect fullness and unity where all opposites are reconciled and from which existence originates.
3 Individuation: The process of becoming a complete, self-realized individual, highlighting the interplay between conscious and unconscious components of the psyche.
4 Love and Desire: Their intrinsic roles in human spiritual development and the unfolding of individual existence.
5 Magic: As a counterpart to the inward journey of individuation, presenting the objective pursuit of this process.
6 Good and Evil: The exploration of these concepts as relative and reconcilable within the larger whole represented by Abraxas.
7 The Nature of Man: Man as a bridge between the spiritual and the physical, and the importance of embodiment in the process of individuation.
These sermons mark an exploration of the deeper layers of the psyche and constitute a significant stepping stone in Jung's development of analytical psychology. However, given the depth and complexity of these concepts, a deeper reading and study of the sermons are essential to fully understand and appreciate Jung's ideas.

    1. Aeon: In Jung's text, Aeon refers to an eternal and divine being or principle, often associated with cosmic order and divine consciousness.
    2. Abraxas: Abraxas is a Gnostic term that represents the unity of all opposites, both good and evil, in a single transcendent being. Jung sees it as a symbol of the self, encompassing all aspects of the psyche.
    3. Archon: Archons are beings or rulers in Gnostic cosmology who are often associated with spiritual ignorance and limitation. They represent forces that oppose spiritual awakening and self-realization.
    4. Pleroma: Pleroma refers to the totality of divine, spiritual, and transcendent realities. It is the fullness of divine existence beyond the material world.
    5. Kenoma: Kenoma is the opposite of Pleroma and represents the material, finite, and mundane aspects of existence. It is often associated with the world of appearances and illusions.
    6. Logos: The Logos is a term used in various philosophical and religious traditions, often referring to the divine or creative principle that gives order and meaning to the universe.

      7. Sophia: Sophia is a Gnostic concept representing wisdom and the feminine aspect of the divine. It is often seen as a counterpart to the Logos.
      8. The Dead: In Jung's text, "The Dead" refers to those who are spiritually asleep or unaware. They are disconnected from the higher spiritual truths and live in ignorance.
      9. Gnosis: Gnosis is a term used in Gnostic traditions to describe spiritual knowledge or insight that leads to salvation or enlightenment.
      10. Self: The Self, in Jungian psychology, is the central and unifying archetype of the psyche. It represents the totality of the individual's psyche and is often associated with the process of individuation.

Greatly looking forward to this. A friend recommended it to me some years ago, after I started reading Liber Novus, but my friend only knew of The Seven Sermons of the Dead, such as presented in this reading. Later I made it to the sermons, but had previously learned they were within a greater context, which is lost to the global audience who read them prior to 2009 or anyone now not intimately familiar with Red Book Liber Novus.
The Seven Sermons of the Dead is the second appearance of the dead to Jung. Then, they were returning from Jerusalem, and were uncertain, bringing questions, and were responded to by Philemon, but Philemon, as speaker to the dead, was not identified in the 1916 edition as translated here.
The first visitation of the Dead, and expanding context, was published in Red Book Liber Novus. It is an interesting experience, part of a larger sub-story beginning in "Divine Folly", and really gets rolling in the second night, "Nox Secunda". In Divine Folly, Jung finds two doors. He enters a library and borrows a book from the Library, Thomas Kempis' "The Imitation of Christ". The following chapter, Jung has departed the library and enters the second door, to a kitchen. He starts speaking to the Cook, then begins having a vision-in-vision (consider the movie Inception), and suddenly the dead enter the kitchen, they speak to him, and one identifies himself as Ezekiel. They are on their way to Jerusalem. Very optimistic, then.
The Seven Sermons to the Dead begin in Scrutinies {6}, page 505 in the Red Book Reader's Edition.
It might be something to make a video about, perhaps.

Personally, I love listening to the reading while looking at the text; while listen to this recording by Master Key Society, I look at the words printed/translated by Sonu Shamdasani, et al, and detect any differences, purely for curiosity's sake.
For anyone who has them, and wants to follow similarly:
Divine Folly/Nox Secunda (first appearance) begins:
      Red Book Facsimile: page 292
      Reader's Edition: page 328
Seven Sermons to the Dead (second appearance) begins:
      Facsimile: page 345
      Reader's Edition: page 505

Many folks seeking truth *fail to find* 'cos they're easily led astray by worldly logic, high sensuality, vain imagination or specious mysticisms. I know I was. I'm an ex neo-vedantic (hindu roots) new ager. I used to be into so much "spiritual" stuff: trance channelings, ancient wisdom, gnosticism, psychedelics, hindu gurus and buddhist mystics. I was illuminated by the *kundalini (serpent) spirit* then 7 years ago I got properly enlightened by the *HOLY SPIRIT* who showed me what a fool I was before. Spirit led me to the real *Jesus Christ* and everything changed - paradigm shifted. This is being *BORN AGAIN* and it's an ongoing surprise to me 😁
It escapes the notice of our self-absorbed, glamour-saturated world that we're in a spiritual war for souls. The immensity of ignorance is astonishing: the dark powers bedazzling the minds of the masses (Ephesians 6:12). We've inherited ancient spiritual subversion: the earth is fallen. The holistic fields of nature are fallen state. Life kills and feeds upon itself. Mankind is a spiritually fallen race highly prone to deceit and delusion. Frankly, we need a *Saviour* and by Jesus Christ we have a *Glorious One*
As a new ager I couldn't believe it but in the *Light of Spirit* Jesus really is the *Way, the truth and the Life* just like He said: no one comes to God except through Jesus, there's no other way (Matthew 7:13-14). As a neo-vedantist I wasn't convinced (I was damn sure I knew better) but turns out the Bible is Spirit breathed, written by men inspired by the *Holy Spirit.* Jesus is vividly portrayed and endorsed in the new testament, in fact he's apparent in the old testament too (Luke 24:27 & 44) and by the *Light of Spirit* we're allowed to *see* that and *know Him.* Any previously perceived discrepancies or contradictions are ironed out and the supernatural narrative flows most beautifully. The Bible is the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

For what I understood, good or bad are a pair of opposites, and those pairs are just qualities. And one must not represent himself with those qualities cause at the end of the day those are opposite polos of the same thing. But yeh, I’m with u on that one. With that being where do we stay? In a neutral position as u said?

I personally believe that the "undefined" (lol, by that I mean it seems to imply) context is that it is necessary to be able to wield both qualities, as they are not only degrees of the same essence, but an essential force that currently flows through our experience of existence. I especially feel that this is implied when he talks about the different gods or daemons causing thoughts, desires; and being more powerful than we are now, here on Earth, would suggest a certain lack or difficulty to maintain control, even of the "self". Yet, even as the "little (s)elf", we need to be able to adapt to the flow of each moment, thus we need to harness at all points along any scale, to be efficient, and appropriately act in life; and as the "larger (S)elf", once more integrated with the (w)holly self, we no longer discriminate them, but view them as the tides rolling into shore, the in & out look the same, and the ebb & flow blur the boundaries of land and sea, no longer able to draw that line. We are only left with the appreciation of the qualities of the experience, the variety & beauty of each, and all the materials, forces, beings, etc., as well as our being of it, in likeness of it all, yet distinguished, and capable of recognizing & loving being an integral, small, yet great & complex, as we are the "created" - "being" a witness of all the great & vast, so beyond us, but is also us, and as we are "creators" - we're an active participant, the "doer", a small cooperative component in many layers(both willing & unwilling/conscious & unconscious), that plays many parts... The million masks of God.

I'm not a fan of the Karma debate, as I feel it can be confusing or misleading if not explained well enough, and I do believe we can drop it, or transcend it, YET... I think it helped me best understand how "bad" things that I did, and really beat myself up about, were simply me being a witness, a pair of hands for forces beyond me, and definitely beyond my awareness at the time. I was used as an instrument of karma to administer justice needed to help another learn one of the many lessons we can learn here. Enough lessons we got to exchange with each other, really helped me truly experience, feel, and understand so deep that it spiritually shaped me, tho I would have thought before that I wouldn't have needed it. The appreciation can ne deep & lasting. I assume very worth it. But there's always two sides. It wouldn't be fair, nor could others around you learn, if you're always playing the "good" guy side of the scale. So my point, is less judgement all around, you, me, us, them, up, down... Don't stress it, don't worry about it, just be... Be yourself, in all the ways, and allow others the same space for living & being whatever, however, and if we stay in the flow, we won't judge so much, try the best you can to be your best you can with whatever you got to work with, and know we all are doing the same! Plus, it turns out, it's not solely up to us. Either way, the universe has got it figured out; and it's even better than that, it's working for our greatest joy & highest good - every single one of us!! And the Universe has a multitude of beings to help it do that! It's so insanely beautiful, and very reassuring! But you still have to be you, no one else can, so do your best at that, and you're doing perfect, but of course you're golden, regardless, so don't beat yourself up for off days, especially when you aren't sure that you weren't just being an unknowingly helpful hand for the greater good!

Also, know this... Part of the efficiency discussed meant that, no matter how pointless, dumb, terrible, etc., an act or mistake may seem, it is never wasted, and will be used for the greater good in some way.
