2:22 Hyder and Tippu put the Mysore Royals under house arrest. They had absolutely no freedom. In fact Maharani secretly wrote a letter to the British for help. Thirumala Raya took this letter to the British. When Tippu heard about this, he raided Melkote and killed a lot of people mainly Melkote Iyengars. Even today Melkote Iyengars don't celebrate Deepavali because this incident happened on Deepavali. I am not a historian but this is according to the best of my knowledge.
