This is spoilers so I don't know if you'd like to know. The lady is not a real therapist in the show she killed the real one and has been stealing her identity, but you don't find out until the end of the episode, still really sorry if you didn't want to know.
Wow, we've been friends forever and you still never stop surprising me. This was AMAZING. Hope you continue to do more of these! I'd love to see you react to the therapy session(s) in Falcon & the Winter Solider. And, of course, the BBC Dracula!!
I wanted to know - is Sherlock an aspie or is he just unable to accept friendship and read people because of his past? Because when Sherlock was younger, after his best friend was killed, Mycroft trained him to be alone, that caring wasn't an advantage. I can't tell if Sherlock is an aspie- and I'm one myself. At the wedding, he didn't seem to understand people's reaction- he thought he'd done something wrong. Being an Aspie, at least for me, makes empathy sometimes a matter of "what should I do/ what would be expected" rather than feeling what others feel, and it seems easier to detach from others' emotions. His single- minded focus on his work also seems like an aspie thing. But he could just have never learnt because of his trauma and Mycroft's response to it. So I don't know. What do you think?
Great idea! This is really interesting and I think will be good for people who are just starting therapy. I think a good video to do would be the therapist in the 'Sopranos'. My favorite I watched while in therapy was 'In Treatment' where we see his patients and the therapist as a patient. Of course, Georgia listens to Pink Floyd could go viral!
Speaking of the rug- what if it was foreshadowing? How many people has Eurus killed? She definitely killed Sherlock's childhood best friend. Most people don't reflect on the rug, I suspect everyone flat out ignores it. But if I'm not mistaken, she holds John at gunpoint. So, if John died then and there, the rug would rub salt on the round. It would blend in with John's blood. What if the room is just another piece of... foreshadowing? Look at the room compared to the actual therapists room? The gloomy atmosphere of the first? ... I think Eurus wanted to unnerve John. In all honesty it would be easy, she's manipulating him. And it's in character for her. It's almost brilliant, I need to rewatch this show, this episode.
I really love your content, I'm in my first semester of clinical counseling and this helps me understand what I'm getting into. Also, question; does it change your view of this therapy scene given that the therapist turns out to be the villain who is A master manipulator?
Personally my favourite iteration of Sherlock is from CBS‘s Elementary. We see him deal with the drug addiction he canonically has in the books because the show opened with him coming out of rehab and how he and Watson get introduced to each other is she is a former surgeon who became a Sober companion to help him readjust, we see him grow from an antisocial dismissive character into someone who does care for others and shows them but doesn’t completely change the fundamental characteristics of the character which are honesty and the need to help people at no matter the cost as well as stubbornness so he doesn’t become a completely unrecognisable character he just evolves into a more empathetic version of his canonical book self and instead is now more aware of what tactics certain situations require. we actually get to see also Joan (John) Watson coming into her own as a detective, as a friend and as a fully fleshed out character instead of just his sounding board and “sidekick“ whom he has to explain everything to. we get to see a lot more of his interpersonal relationships that become healthier and he deals with addiction and substance abuse in a way that does not glamorise it and that is something I really enjoyed but it’s a procedural and it has 20+ episodes over seven seasons so I know it’s a lot but a personal favourite of mine.
Every therapist ive ever been to. Which is a few.. have had ticking clocks. And none have seen it as an issue until i bring it up. Its like a dissociation machine.
I’ve never been to a therapist and always wondered what it would be like. Having a visual reference with expert color commentary was fantastic! I’d love to see more of these (e.g., Tony Soprano?) and, for an occasional lighter fare, perhaps a similar perspective on therapy as portrayed in a comedy...the old Bob Newhart Show comes to mind, though as I recall most of those portrayed were group therapy sessions.
Your words "I always wondered what it would be like" caused me to reply...quite respectfully. Following some Massive trauma I saw three....two didn't work....and then I was incredibly fortunate and linked up with Claire Nicoletti, a name which Georgia may know cuz she seems to have similar characteristics. 🍂 Once found, the right psychotherapist can and does Change Your Life. 🙏🏼
There is a fascinating play between the coherence/decoherence :: Sherlock/Mary. I guess, as with many things in this series we’ll need to place a 📌 on that?

I gathered from this that good therapy doesn’t make good tv drama. Love this stuff.
truth ha
Except spoiler: she's not a therapist.
That rug- it reminded me of when Sherlock jumped- that blood.
I actually enjoy this reaction video and hope you do more in the future.
whew thx

Thank you Bob ! added it to my list great suggestion
Loved it. Loved the episode when it came out, too. I guess watching some Ally McBeal interaction with her psychotherapist would be fun, in a way? :)
Oh nice yes didn't even think of that
I’m really enjoying your videos. Looking forward to seeing more! Subscribed!
@Georgia Dow, is there a Part Two where you analyze the rest of the therapeutic scenes in this episode

Oh foreshadowing I didnt think of that but yes that is a good one. It was the first clue he missed
You should profile
Professor James Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes game of shadows

And also John’s wife was played by Martin Freeman’s real-life ex-partner. This must have been heart-wrenching to perform.
ugh yes ma'am I am SO excited for this
I was also =) I did another for the following week I hope it comes out as well.
You are absolutely amazing, please keep up the excellent videos.
