Hi Nick, have you tried an extension piece on it between the flymount and the cage to move it slightly further away - I find even a 16cm extension makes a huge difference and it almost looks like a drone shot. Few examples in my UA-cam - Cheers - Ian
Hi Ian. Paul from BooM here. Thanks for your comment. Nick has an old harness set up with a K4 harness mount. We’ve tried that once or twice and I agree, the result is superb with it being further away - it’s like a drone shot. The plan is to get another one for me and then we can both sail with them on. I do get a bit frustrated with the camera on the mast or boom and how short the aspect is. Cheers. Paul
@@boomwindsurfing2744 I also chased the family about last weekend with it about "logo high" on the mast and it looks for all the world like a drone following them - great for coaching! Just an amazing piece of kit!! Looking forward to your Tiree Wave Classic footage - no pressure!! ua-cam.com/video/wJm0Hlr7yAw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/UT8aHB0TL_8/v-deo.html
Good info particularly with the fly mount which I found to be pretty useless but will try your method of mounting loosely on the sail cloth. I also have to say you are a brave man to stick 500 quids worth of kit into 'open water'. First time I used mine naked in the cols frame, I found I had water ingress (like other comments). I then found a comment on Insta's site saying for active sports use you should use a dive case as impact pressures can exceed the 10Mtr rating! It's fine if you're a pro and don't crash all the time but... So I now have Insta's dive case (which is big) but also cheaper £40 boxes off ebay which is essentially just a waterproof cover but does the job. You have to fix a cord around it for safety though.
My X2 just died, I ensure all doors are closed properly. My theory (I am sending th unit back to the HongKong repair center for feedback) is that in time the salts build up on the seals of the doors. I have seen folk on YT recommending to put the cam in fresh water after use (up to an hour) to disolve any salts build-ups. I agree the insta360 is the superior cam as the gopro max 360 seems to distort more (more bendy horizons in your view) but I am not convinced the quality is where it needs to be for a piece of kit costing 450 pound coins of one's hard earned plata. I noticed the X3 has a new door design for the usb-port so I expect they know about this issue and have improved on the new version as such. Anyway, not to put a downer on the tech, it is brilliant and I use it for the same reason's Nick sets out - I am improving and get to relive some of the good stuff of the sessions afterwards - I started filming shortly after I restarted windsurfing in 2019 and after 133 videos it is evident that filming yourself helps tremendously to improve your windsurfing. Keep up the good work gents, Boom Shakala
Hey , Paul here from BooM. Thanks for your comment. That’s exactly what happened to me with my X2 6 weeks ago. It was watertight but just died and was a few months out of warranty!! I’ve now got the X 3 (same as Nick) and it’s good. The Insta is good but I think they are quite fragile and I don’t think built to last

Hi Paul, did you sent yours back to HongKong for repair? My just got there this morning, I am curious to see the outcome of their investigation.
Great info, selling my GoProHero 9 and getting an Insta 360 X3 in the next few weeks.
