    I was in the middle of watching your video and then you were talking about challenging yourself and doing things even when they seem difficult and the power it brings you. I stopped the video and spent the rest of the day painting my living room and building a window shelf for my dog to sit at. I finished!! I had been putting that off for months, I started painting in November 😲 and got it done in one afternoon and now my house is beautiful and today I feel soooo good!! So thank you and now I'm back to finish where I left off here..

    Isabel, I have the exact same tiller. You are supposed to remove those back tires before you till. Remove the cotter pin and they'll pop right off. They are only for moving the tiller when it's not running. Without the wheels, you will get a deeper and more even till. Love your videos. Peace!

      The wheels are for doing a shallow turnover 3-4 inches.
      Removing them or on most tillers flipping them up is for doing a deep till. 7-9 inches.

    • @tatertots-n-soup
      @tatertots-n-soup 2 роки тому +2

      First you go over the hard winter crusted hard packed earth set shallow. So you dont break the machine. Then you go back over it doing a deep till for completion.
      Dont forget some areas o ly have a cew inches of good rich top soil. You sure wouldnt want to mix it with the sand/rock down 6+ inches.

    Isabel get some silage tarp and sand bags to hold the tarp down to cover your garden beds after the season, that way you won't have weeds when planting time comes. It protects the soil by keeping it covered. If uncovered nature will cover it with weeds.

  • @deborahlee8135
    @deborahlee8135 2 роки тому +44

    Isabel have you considered a no dig method where you just keep adding to the beds instead of breaking up the soil structure? You may find it interesting to look at how the microbiology helps the plant growth. Weeding by cutting them off with a hand scythe at the base and leaving the roots in to decompose and feed the ones you plant is also good. This method of growing would fit with your earth care values i'm sure

    I love your videos so much! Lots of inspiration. They remind me of simpler times when I was growing up in the 70s. I remember my mom hand washing clothes and sheets, the way they smelled after drying in the spring air. The homemade cherry pies from our cherry trees. Such good wisdom learning these skills so many rely on technology too much. It really gives us an appreciation to the meaning of life while staying in the present moment. Growing food is so rewarding. It is really hard work. We just finished our raised vegetable and cut flower beds yesterday. I’m so exhausted today but this type of work ya can’t really crawl up for a day. But I found movement even if I don’t feel like it gets me out of that stooper zone. Sometimes we really need a break too. Good happy medium like Bob Ross used to say. ❤

    Dear Paige, when I moved to Oregon some 40 years ago I had no running water or electricity and lived in a small cabin my husband built. I was blessed in that I had neighbor who taught me many things. One was how to wash on a scrub board. In trying to get rid of stains from jeans etc. I would scrub vigorously and began getting holes in my clothes. I spoke to my neighbor about the problem and she told me I was doing my wash wrong. She taught me that an up and down swishing movement on the board took care off stains better than hard scrubbing. And I have to say I still wash most my clothes by hand and I rarely have stains that stay.🐱💕

I have seen talk about you not truly being authentic, because you were blessed with the property. Which I completely disagree. Whether you were blessed with it or not, its all about what you DO with it. It truly seems like you have taken the blessing of being able to live on this property, and make such good out of it. Some people may get a head start on their journey like this, by having a platform to start, but I think what you do after is what counts.

    Isa, I just NEED to tell you something, I’ve been meaning to do it for weeks. Search on UA-cam “ Como fazer arroz e feijão”, it’s Portuguese for “how to make rice and beans”, and you’ll see the way Brazilians do it, and I promise you it’ll change your life. I’m not saying the way you make it it’s bad, but if a Brazilian grandma see someone doing it this way she’ll kick some ass. Pleeeeeaseeee do it , you’ll love it I PROMISE LOVE YOUU

    Growing your own food takes a lot of work but it's so worth it! Chad and I have 18 beds in our back yard and we spent just over five hours last Sunday clearing out the weeds, tilling and getting everything ready for planting. I was wiped out! We were finally able to plant some stuff today. I can't wait to see the little seedlings poking up out of the ground!

    I'm not certain what i like most about these videos. It might be the scenic views of Alpine Mountains. I live in the mountains of West Virginia with my wife and 2 children. All I want for them is to be able to survive off of the land and not have to rely on someone else for their survival. My family has lived off of the mountains since they came here. The old ways are being lost and they are all you need. Food preservation and harvesting are life skills that, if you possess, will ensure you survive when the shelves go empty. I want my children and their children to be able to keep living every day even if all cities of man are gone. Gardening is a labor of love. With the amount of flat land you have for your garden, you may check out the Ruth Stout method of gardening. It enriches the soil and smothers the weeds.
    Thanks for the videos. The editing in the videos is mesmerizing and allows me to completely disconnect and immerse myself into that beautiful environment.

    We don’t live off grid, in fact quite the opposite, but we just had solar panels fitted with an inverter and large batter storage, trying to do our bit for the environment.

    I couldn't agree more about what you shared, pushing ourselves to do something when our mind and body says no. I find that happens daily with myself. Like you, I have a large garden, farm animals to take care of, there are days I just don't want to walk, but I know I'll feel better if I do.
    Your you tube always makes my day, your inspiration pushes me. I believe we all need eachother, to encourage one another and come along side. The one thing I wish I did better with, cooking, thinking ahead with food. You guys eat so healthy, a few lessons in there for me to learn. Thank you Isabel, your a good person. ❤️

    Beautiful video as always. Can't wait to see your gardens produce in later videos! Loved your little chat about going up the hill everyday, and how the days you didn't want to seemed like the most important and empowered you. I agree 100%. I am currently doing a challenge right now which requires an outdoor 45 minute workout every day. Some days I really REALLY don't want to go for my walk but I feel so happy with myself after I do. Even more so than the days I dont mind walking or am looking forward to it. I am incredibly lucky to live by a river with a walking trail so seeing everything come back to life with spring has been wonderful as well.
    Hope you stay well Isabel. Thank you for always doing these lovely videos.

    I was touched by the moment when you didn't get the tiller started and Logan stepped in and started it, then came to your side and hugged you and said "let it warm up..." as he patted your arm. It was an elegant moment of mutual respect and graciousness; in a relationship we can be feminine, and feminist, and gentlemanly. ❤

    You both are amazing working hard on the farm garden. It is a lot of work, but very rewarding. I grew up on an agricultural farm in the midwest. When I watch your videos I hope that others your age are watching. Not many would think of doing what you and Logan are doing every day. even though it is exhausting work it can leave you with good feelings of accomplishment...preparing the spring earth, weeding, tilling, composting, planting and watering...to be able to harvest and eat what you grow. I, also, want to mention the video clip of Isabella's very blue eyes wearing the pretty blue sweatshirt. that color makes your eyes look deeper blue. Another great video:)

    Oh Isabel thank you for letting us watch you and Logan hard at work it is so satisfying and uplifting. I really like what you shared from your meditation instructor. Even in my old age I still need to hear those words. I have always thought of my self as a old soul even when I was young and you seem to be one as well. I had to laugh at you saying that washing cloths on a wash board is fun. I think my grandmother would not have thought that as my uncle told me she would stand straddling a ditch with a wash board scrubbing the cloths of six children plus hers and my grandfathers cloths. Thanks for being such a wonderful ambassador of healthy living for us all.

    Mulch it so you keep the weeds down and don't have to weed so much. And for planting you can get a seed planter that you just fill and roll along the rows. Much faster, work smarter not harder is always my motto.
