    (nylon strings guitar with solid body)
    Recorded directly to DAW without any processing just a bit of reverb added. Sorry guys, I'm not a classic or flamenco player and I can’t play fingerstyle at all, the video was created for sound comparison purposes only.
    Thanks

    Thanks for this demo. I've recently become interested in a solid body, nylon string guitar, and the Angel Lopez, as well as a couple entries from Harley Benton, are at the top of my list.
    Silly, I know, but I LOVE the appearance of the Mahogany one in your video. Thanks.
    PS.....your playing is perfect for the kind of questions I have.

      No wonder we all pick the guitar with our eyes. :-) Yes, the mahogany top is beautiful in every light, but the sound is also interesting, with the help of onboard EQ it is possible to elicit deeper and rounder tones than from spruce. But in the end, my favorite is Spruce, it has a very low action of strings and it is very similar to an electric guitar, which suits me. Then the weight - there are small differences but spruce is noticeably lighter.

    Dream guitar: this but more frets (on the body) and with those curvy sound hole thingies on hollow body electrics and orchestral instruments, sturdy enough for percussion

    Thanks for the comparison. For flamenco and pop Spruce sounds well, for classical and bossa i prefer Mahagony ;)

      Thanks for the comment Jorge. Yes, I feel exactly the same. Guitars are also like that, I don't know if it was an intention or it's just an inaccuracy in the factory setting. Anyway, the spruce has a low string action and the whole body is lighter and sounder close to flamenco guitars. While the Mahogany version has a much higher action closer to classical guitar touch. Even with EQ on guitar, you get a different sound corresponding to these flamenco/classic characters.

    Hey I have a question. If you don't plug in the guitar, is the sound going to be loud? I am planning to buy one, but I am about to move in to shared apartement (which mean I am going to share a room with someone else).

    • @tomasbouda
      @tomasbouda  2 роки тому

      Hi. The guitar has a solid body so there is no resonating soundboard and body like a classic acoustic guitar. However it's still a little louder than an unplugged electric guitar. I think with a soft touch it's possible, but when you play hard, it's quite loud.

    Hello, great review. So are the neck the same dimensions in both guitars? Wich one is your favorite for lead/single note stuff?

    • @tomasbouda
      @tomasbouda  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Luciano. Yes, the neck is exactly the same but the height of the strings from the body and the fingerboard is significantly different. I don't know if it was the intention of the manufacturer or just a bad output control of cheap instruments and it always works out differently for them on each guitar. Anyway, I chose Spruce. The guitar came perfectly set without the need for further adjustments and the output amplifier/piezo pickup is stronger and livelier for my style of play (which is a lot of solo playing with the live band). On Mahogany however, you can make a more “noble” sound when recording directly to DAW after a bit of effort. Each guitar has its pros and the Mahogany is beautiful to look at. But my sound preferences and genre (jazz, fusion) are closer to Spruce version.

    Thanks for the demo Tomas, It really helps. GOdin multiac is far to reach so far :). I suposse that the neck is not like a classical guitar right? I mean , it is more like an electric ? the feeling.

      Thank you so much for your comment and I'm glad the video was helpful. The neck of the guitar is about half way up. It's not as thick as a classical concert guitar, but it's not as thin as a standard eletric. Anyway, I've been an electric player all my music life and switching to this neck is no problem. Problem was with high string action especially on the MahoN version but that would be easily solved by any luthier.

    I like Mahogany more! Nice playing, btw. In look, black one is also really pretty (whick I prefer to buy), I think there is a Spruce body... Do you agree that this guitar is tonally similiar to some expensive Godin classical solid body guitar?

    • @tomasbouda
      @tomasbouda  Рік тому +2

      Thank you, Jovan. The mahogany looked really sensational to look at but I have to say that I decided to go with the spruce version in the end. It had a much softer and more refined sound for me. But it's all just subjective preference and doesn't mean spruce is better than maho. It is just different. As for the comparison with Godin. The Godin in particular is a bit more refined on record and has a fuller or more colorful sound, but certainly the sound difference is not as big as the price of these guitars. I normally play gigs with Angel Lopez and the sound is perfectly adequate, but I'm only an occasional acoustic player. The Yamaha SLG with effects on board is also interesting for me, I can really set the sound to my liking on that one and it fits my hand better than the godin. But the answer is yes. Even from a guitar this cheap you can get a really great sound.

    The mahogany is very buzzy sounding, spruce is more cohesive unless it was just a manufacturing issue with a mahogany setup out of the box?

    • @tomasbouda
      @tomasbouda  Рік тому

      Yes, the guitars will arrive in really bad condition as far as settings and adjustments are concerned. In that video both guitars are equally, equally bad.

      @@tomasbouda I've bought the mahogany version of this guitar, it's currently at the luthiers having a neck adjustment to lower the action. I like it's sound but, don't know if an impulse response would reduce the attack of the piezo, as it sounds maybe a little 'quacky' due to the sensitivity of the pick up. Will try one of the pedals I mentioned to experiment a little. There's not much info online about how this guitar reacts to such a pedal.. Thanks anyway.

  • @eelliott8278
    @eelliott8278 Рік тому +1

    I bought one sight unseen. It’s a bit too heavy of a guitar and the action is high. You have very limited amount of control over the electronics as well. But keeping in mind that this is very inexpensive guitar, it could be a very good entry point for someone wanting to get into playing electric nylons

    • @tomasbouda
      @tomasbouda  Рік тому +1

      Yes, in this price range this guitar is unrivalled in sound, but actually in terms of workmanship and when you adjust the action of the strings (I have them as low as on an electric gt) it is such a comfortable guitar.

      @eelliott8278 Рік тому

      @@tomasbouda did you file the nut to lower the action?

    • @tomasbouda
      @tomasbouda  Рік тому +2

      @@eelliott8278 No, I lightly sanded the bridge (of cozrse just the “white thing” under the strings) and the most I did was with the screws that hold the neck from the back and changed the whole angle of the neck. Just loosen the two screws closer to the body and tighten the ones closer to the head. It's not very expertly done, but it works great. 🙂

    • @tomasbouda
      @tomasbouda  Рік тому +1

      Hi Pablo, are you into guitars now? I just want to point out that the guitar has a solid body = no chambers and hollows, so teddy bears or something like that will be better for your business. 😉 But seriously, the unplugged guitar is completely silent and it sounds just like if you strung the strings on an old door or any other wood board. Fine for quiet practicing at home, but useless for anything else.
