This verse is stating basically that no one is superior between jews or Greeks, male or female, etc. It saying that we are all one in Christ, meaning we are all on the same level. It means that just because Jewish people who are followers of Christ choose not to get tattoos & others who are followers do, it doesn't make the Jews any better than that person. Because is it by Faith that we are children of God not by law. Just following the Law word for word doesn't make u any better than the next Christian. It is your measure of true Faith that proves you to be children of God or not. Galatians 3:7-14, Galatians 3:17-29

Hmmmm, I find it funny how Christians and for the most part ministers and pastors choose to teach the Word of God as it fits their narrative and want to appease, for lack of a better term, the people or congregation to keep them engaged in their sermons. I agree that if you came to accept Christ and you had a tattoo before, no you're not going to hell because you repented from sin, therfore the blood of Yahshua cleanses you and makes you a new creature in Him. But I don't agree that if you already are a born again believer, you can and it's permisible to get a tattoo because it doesn't serve any purpose as it pertains to the kingdom of God. If we,as the light of the world, are going to act the same as the world does and participate in the same manner, how are we supposed lead those who are in darkness to come and accept the light? Yahshua said that though we are in this world, we are not of this world( meaning the believers). Brother Tim, I ask you this question, if you adopt a child into your family, isn't he required to adhere to the same rules you have established in your household? What makes us think that God is any different?

    • @nathanbourjolly
      @nathanbourjolly 2 роки тому +205

I completely agree that we must conform to God’s rule and in the word of God. However, where I must disagree is the BIBLICAL argument that tattoos are wrong. Is it culturally acceptable? That differs. However, first off it is a part of the old covenant requirements and regulations so it’s already at a disadvantage. Second of all, the verse before that speaks about not trimming the beard so if we’re going to honor the tattoos, we must honor the entire passage. That includes dietary restrictions and everything else that comes under the law. As Paul said, once we break one part of the law, we’ve broken the entire law. However, through Jesus we now no longer subscribe to the law but under the new covenant. I agree we still must be holy, we still must live our lives with a difference, however the difference is produced from our righteousness and the Holy Spirit within us fitting the rules within the confines of the word of God. Not false religiosity and legalism.

@@nathanbourjolly it's curious how when you speak the truth about who God is and what he requires through his word, many take offense to it and start making up excuses or try to minimize the importance of it. I ask you this, is the constitution for everyone or was it for those who lived during the 1700's, the time when the constitution was implemented? Exactly my point and after all of this time, it's still our duty to uphold and obey it at all times. The Word of God transcends any law man has made and yet we treat it as old news for the people of back then. We need to know the difference between the commandments and the ordances that Yahuwah gave to Moses to relay to his people. Like I said in my comment before Paul says that we are adopted into the family of Yah through the blood of Yahshua. Therefore , if you are adopted into a family you are required to adhere to every rule that the head of the household has implemented. The reason why there's so many theories about what you can or should do is because the leaders nowadays don't want to follow what God has implemented from the beginning and choose to teach what their opinion is instead of what God truly wants. The Bible says that if you want wisdom, God is willing to give it freely and without reproach. Instead of depending and what man thinks you can and should do, why don't you pray to God and ask for his wisdom to know what he requires from us? Romans 3:4 says " God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, And mightest overcome when thou art judged.
      Romans 3:4 KJV.

@@JDrum7 oh trust me that is love and grace. Telling someone the truth about the word of God is loving and showing grace to them because you're showing that you actually care about them enough to show them the light and guide them to Yahshua through his Word. Listen, I'm not saying you but most people get offended when you speak truth about the Word to them because it confronts you and like the Bible says it's like if we were put in front of a mirror and shows us our flaws and weaknesses and let's us know that no matter the level of education, wealth, intelligence, and position, we all fall short of what God really wants for us and He truly wants us to be successful in everything we do, especially when it pertains to our relationship and service to Him. See, I know that some people don't grasp the importance of this but the fact that the moment you open your eyes and can get out of bed is enough to be thankful for Yahuwah is showing his mercy and grace through giving us life that day. The rest is just a bonus and let's us know how much He TRULLY loves us. Now that is God's way us showing us his love and grace, sometimes we don't understand it because His mind is so complex that in our humanity we get lost in trying to understand what He's doing, but the fact is, we're NEVER going to understand fully who God really is and why he does and operates in the manner in which He does. But in all honesty he never asked us to, He just asks us to obey and follow his Word. I'm imperfect in every way , but God's grace and mercy is evident in my life and yours, as imperfect as we are, we're alive and well while others aren't that fortunate. We always as humans, tend to try to understand the mind of God and tend to put Him in a box and say no, this is what He should do or this is what " I " think he is and to be frank, we will never understand that until we are reunited with Yahshua in the celestial city. And for me, that's sufficient. May Yahuwah bless you today and always.

I agree completely. If you have a tatoo, you arent going to hell. And you can still have a relationship with God that is fruitful and thriving.
I advice the people I serve though not to get it because, what is the motive? 95% of the time someone tells me their motive for getting a tattoo its not for the Glory of Christ, it’s usually a selfish reason, so why do it?
Secondly, i have encountered people even believers who cannot grow and move beyond a certain point because they have been held back by a door they opened through the tatoo. What we sometimes ignore is the cultural and spiritual meaning of tatoos. Tatoos can be used as a seal. There was a boy who was having some demonic expressions at a certain mission and deliverance for him wasn’t immediate because he said he had a seal (tatoo). This guy had made a covenant without knowing he was making a covenant.
Can we just let the Holy Spirit be our seal that the world recognizes and sees the Glory of God?
Can we just honor our bodies as the temple of the Holy spirit, and love our bodies the way they were created, take care of them by eating healthy and fitness and not add or subtract to what God has already put?
Can we choose to live simple God Honouring lives without trying to copy or be influenced by what we see in the world?
Can we focus on what is important? There are more things that God desires us to focus on and do (the gospel) rather than focusing on these debatable matters? If you are busy serving God you have no time to think 🤔 “I think i should put an angel on my back to represent the Angels of God surrounding me” 😒
About honouring the dead, there are better ways to do that Guys. Scripture is clear in the epistles on honouring those who have fallen asleep.

As much as I love Tim Ross, when God created the earth and rested and made holy the seventh day, it was for all humanity not just Jews. Adam and Eve were not Jews. The sabbath is specifically for jews because it wasn't made a requirement until the Jewish law. That's not to say a Christian can't observe it but only jews were required by law to do so. Also because Jesus was born, died, and rose again the Jewish law doesn't pertain to us with the exception of the 10 commandments which are essentially ways to deal with God and your fellow man and often deemed the moral law which Jesus reinforces in Mark 12:39-31.

@Cleon Richardson Adam and eve were not Jewish but where did they observe the sabbath? Jesus was baptized because he was/is the example for how we observe many things as Christians and baptism is one of those. I'm not sure what you mean by rested during his death but the reason he rose on the third day was because it was prophesiedby himself that it would be so. In my comment I spoke about the moral law or the 20 commandment so go reread that. The point is if you want to observe the sabbath then do it. However like most old testament law it isn't a requirement for Christians. Jesus himself didn't observe the sabbath as it was written in the law but I guess He's wrong too.

@@kingleo5368 I realize that you have made up your mind about this so Luke 4:16 would not make any impression on you where it says plainly that Jesus went to church, read the Word and it was something He was accustomed to every Sabbath. If you honestly feel that we are not called to observe not murdering people, not coveting, not lying, not stealing etc. then if someone steals from you or lies to you then nothing is wrong. My concern is that in order to push the narrative of no longer observing Sabbath you have to get rid of all the other commandments as well and the Bible says that you can't take away any of them. However, do have a wonderful day and a wonderful new year.

    • @kingleo5368
      @kingleo5368 2 роки тому

@Cleon Richardson obviously you haven't read anything I typed and you're the one that's made their mind. I've already said the moral law is still in place and was reinforced by Jesus. Yes he went to church and participated but he also healed on the sabbath and had the Disciples pick corn on the sabbath. So like I said he didn't observe it like the law said to which is not doing any form of work or labor. Not observing it doesn't throw away the whole 10 commandments. The law does not save nor does it condemn. Jesus saves and God condemns those that do not accept Jesus. We have a new covenant in Jesus. Which means some new parameters and some which are still in place. The sabbath is one that is no longer in place as a requirement just like animal sacrifice or diet restrictions.

"Marking yourself" in the bible was in reference to cutting oneself. In the time of Old Testament Israel (before Jews would sacrifice animals to cover their sins), Jews would have to cut themselves in order to see their sins forgiven. This later was adjusted to say, 'don't cut yourself, instead sacrifice animals'.
The God we see in the Old Testament and throughout the Bible is a God who meets people where they were at. We must understand, before it was comanded to cut oneself, people would sacrifice children. To go from sacrificing children -> cutting oneself -> circumcision -> sacrificing animals -> No sacrifice of animals or circumcision because Jesus' death covered it all - IS A BIG STEP! POSITIVE PROGRESS.

My brother in Christ, the 10 Commandments can't go "without saying" if you ignore that Genesis tells us which day is the actual Sabbath. It's the 7th day, the day that God rested on.
Additional to the generationally continuous observance of a particular day as the God's Sabbath day of rest, a day which was never questioned as being the 7th day even by the Powers that abolished it, there's a whole documented history on how the Sabbath got replaced with resting on "the venerable day of the sun" (aka. the Lord's Day) which also simultaneously prohibited the Christian observation of the true Sabbath as commanded by God in His 10 Commandments.

The reason a lot of people will sadly never fully experience what Christ did for them is because we consistently insist on using religion (acts) to justify their salvation not realizing that we were saved by grace which means it's never really about the things we fixate on. The body of Christ is constantly mixing up a culture of faith with religion and Old Testament Jewish culture. Let's look at the scripture that talked about this, Leviticus 19:
Leviticus 19:28 Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.
Here's what is interesting. In that same chapter, here are some other things that were mentioned:
27 “Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards.
How about that. Does this mean that Christians should no longer trim their beards or cut their hair?
20 “If a man has sex with a slave girl whose freedom has never been purchased but who is committed to become another man’s wife, he must pay full compensation to her master.
Is this justification for us to have slaves today? Is that what God is telling us?
It's important to realize that a lot of the things that happened in the Old Testament set the stage for Jewish culture. The same God that nearly killed Moses for not circumcising his sons (Exodus 4:24-26), used Paul the Apostle to explain that it was no longer a requirement (Colossians 2:11-12). If we really are going to have this tattoo 'argument', then let's keep the same energy for everything 😅
The New Testament changed things because of Jesus guys! What was once religion and culture at the same time became purely - 'cultural'. This is why the Pharisees missed it. They were fixated on all the laws and rules of their culture and religion and ultimately got to a place where they felt their relationship with God was purely based on their actions and not by God's grace.
Now does this mean you should go and start tattooing yourself? Absolutely not. Does going to a buffet mean you should eat everything till you can't breathe? Not at all. But the point is, Jesus has done a lot more for you than you realize. The moment you let go of religion, start understanding how to properly read and study the word (understanding context, culture etc.) and fully embrace what he did on the cross for us and realize it has nothing to do with us - but everything to with him, your life will never be the same.
May Ephesians 1:17-19 be the reality of your life. Go read it ❤

Paul talks about all things being lawful to him but not all things expedient to him, so according to the world theres nothing wrong with masturbation because then your not having sex, but we know that Spiritually it is the spirit of lust that is at work sometimes and therefore we exercise self control and out of obedience to the Lord . Sabbath doesn't have to be a particular day. Yes. God rested at creation because He needed to set an example for us and demonstrate the rest is important. • @Quintori
      @Quintori Рік тому +5

@@messmeerized Why would the Sabbath not be a particular day when He specifically made that day holy, "He blessed the seventh day and sanctified it" Gen. 2:1-3. This was before the distinction of Jew and Gentile even existed. Additionally, the whole point of forming the Hebrew nation of Israel was to show the Egyptians and Canaanites how to live, including observing the Sabbath.
When God does things, does He not do them intentionally and specifically? If He had meant for the Sabbath to be this vague concept of "rest" that modern Christianity accepts, He would not have enshrined it again in specific language on the Tablets of Stone.
*"Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy."*
      Ok God, but why?
*"Six days you have to labor and do all your work."*
      And?
*"But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God."*
We have Genesis 2 establishing a specific day on which God rested and which He sanctified and we have the 4th commandment which reminds not just the Hebrews but ALL who come to faith when and what the Lord's Day is, that the seventh day is a memorial to creation and HIS power as creator.
I have no idea why we seek to undermine the Word of God like this, it makes no sense. If you invalidate the specificity of the Sabbath, you can begin to invalidate a whole bunch of other Biblical doctrines. It's spiritual suicide.

God rested and sanctified the day. It’s personal to him. And in the departure from Egypt the Lord reminded them that as His people He has set apart time and space of refreshing/rest/celebration. He said it will be a sign between us and Him - that we are His people and He is our God. Yes God is clear! We just don’t wanna be, because , what I’m not sure. Hey Tim, I love your podcast, so this is not coming from a place of anger, but all love. I hate being that wierdo that copy-pastes a whole bunch of Bible verses in their comment but bear with me for a sec. Before there was a Jew, (Abraham) there was a sabbath, in Eden. Adam kept the sabbath, Adam was not a Jew. So even in a perfect world, the sabbath was kept with the intent to recognize and celebrate God as our Creator. " And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath" Mark 2:27 . It was made for huMANity not just for Jews.
This is what Hebrews 4:1-11 says (pertaining to the Sabbath) especially verses 9-11:
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.[a] 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
“So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”[b]
And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. 4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”[c] 5 And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”
6 Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, 7 God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts.”
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. 9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[e] just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.
So this clearly says that those who refuse to rest on the seventh day ( verse 4), which GOD HIMSELF requested as a sign (Ezekiel 20:20) between Him and His people that He is the creator of the universe (verse 3) and that those who disobey this command, as ancient Israel did in the past, will perish (verse 11).
Also, I believe the objective of God establishing Israel, His chosen people of the past, was not to just have a favorite clique on earth and create laws that just apply to them, but to use them to draw the whole world back unto Himself. He was literally revealing His heart to them, with the desire that they would share it with the rest of the world, but sadly they often, as we do today, got carried away with Idolatry. So these civil and ceremonial laws were established for order and peace amongst each other (civil) and simply were to be carried out as a perpetual reminder of their savior that would come and die for their sins in the future (ceremonial).
So since we are now all one in Christ seeing that "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female" ( Galatians 3:28), if Hebrews 4 says to rest on the seventh day I believe that is for ALL people not just the Jews.
Sorry for this lengthy post, I haven't commented under a video in years, usually just not my thing, but I am blessed by your podcast and I just wanted to give my TEN cents lol.

If my step-child moves into my house so that I now have my biological child and step-child living in the same home, you mean the house rules have to be separated based on who is who? There is something about choosing which of God's law pertains to which people (gentile, Christian, etc) that seems logical but out of order. That maybe how a democracy works but not a kingdom. If Jesus fulfilled the laws then He fulfilled it for all believers and not just Jews. And which Jews are we talking about? The original Jews? This pathway opens the door to so much heresy. Overall, God is not sending someone to hell because of a tattoo. [However] ...[n]ot everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

    2. The sabbath was created and followed prior to exodus. It was establish at creation. Therefore, the 7th day is applicable to everyone

The bad motive because we’re called to not temp each other to sin. So as long as it’s not none of those two it’s fine. But for me it’s just confusion bc Most people just take thing without reading it in the same manner as we learn to study in high school asking Who What Where When How and Why.

This is an opinion I don't agree with. No one who gets a tattoo of someone who passed is doing it to worship death, it's to celebrate and memorialize life, and the best person to grasp that is the creator of life and death itself. He knows the hurt they feel and the hope and joy it gives ppl to adorn themselves with reminders that they loved and still love someone who is no longer here, so your idea of worship doesn't fit the scope you're putting it in. If it were a show of morbidity, like say getting the name of an enemy that died tattoos on you, I'd be inclined to agree but it doesn't

One thing is getting tattoos BEFORE becoming and another thing is getting a tattoo or body modification AFTER dedication
“Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.” -Leviticus 19:28
Now conveniently, many choose to ignore the Old Testament even though the ENTIRE Scripture is the WORD of God.
Besides, tattooing like other body modifications, are worldly not Godly.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life-is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” - 1John 2:15-17
A tattoo serves NO PURPOSE for God but its a selfish desire for attention or vanity. We should “tattoo” our minds and hearts with God’s word and Holy Spirit instead.
Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. Now those who belong to the Messiah Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also be guided.

    1. Whenever you read scripture, pray to make sure your flesh is not looking to manipulate the scriptures to justify your own selfish wants.
    2. When you read scripture, make sure you read the verse in focus within its context and biblical hermeneutics. Then whether “it applies to you” will make more sense.
    3. When you’ve ascertained whether the commandment given then was a temporary but necessary one, or an eternal one, then ask yourself the big question.
Do I have any worry, whatsoever, that the thing I want to do or acquire is sinning against Yeshua. If I have any a speck of doubt within me, if I don’t know scripturally to the T whether it’s a sin or not for me, don’t do it.
If I know it’s not a sin, clearly and scripturally. Now that I know scripturally and with the prayer that what I am about to is not sin, why am I truly getting it. Is it for good things of good report, glorifying God, or was I looking for a non sinful means to place this tattoo in a sinful manner that causes lust or was for pleasing others and nothing else.
Once you go through these, your soul should be at rest no matter what decision you come to. No matter the decision, the foundation must be, that you have absolute scriptural clarity for you, taking your flesh out of it, that you sin not against Yeshua. Then, it’s a matter of your heart and why you’re doing it. “For man looketh at the outward appearance, but God looketh at the heart”.
God bless whoever reads this, and I pray whatever decision you make brings peace and not guilt to your soul, more knowledgeable of the holy scriptures for yourself, and closer to Yeshua.

The Old Testament was for a specific time and purpose. There are three types of laws in the Old Testament; the civil law, ceremonial law and moral law.
The ceremonial law outlined rules for things such as cleanliness, dietary restrictions, tattoos, hair, piercings and rules for establishing priests. The civil law dealt with rules on settling disputes amongst the people. The moral law dealt with God’s rules for moral character, specifically the things outlined in the 10 commandments. All of these issues regarding tattoos, piercings etc. applied to ceremonial law.
Christ died in the cross to atone for our sins. As of the New Testament we are no longer bound to civil and ceremonial laws. We ARE however bound by the moral law (10 commandments) under the new covenant of the New Testament.
When asked which if these moral laws were most important Jesus replied in Matthew 22:37:
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
God is much more concerned about our moral character than whether we abide by over 600 laws which are no longer applicable (with the exception of the 10 commandments). It’s what’s in our heart vs. what’s on our body that God truly cares about.

If you lead somebody to Jesus, you are supposed to leave that person with Jesus. Be there to love the person and remind the person to stay with Jesus, but that person should not be following you. It will make you vain. Puffed up. You might begin to quench the spirit in people by telling them that they are not free to believe all that God said, and bind them in the prison of “context”. Be it unto you according to your faith. If you do not believe God knows the plans he has for you because he was talking to somebody else when he said it, that is the limit of your faith. But please refrain from telling people that God is bound by context. It is as foolish as saying because Paul wrote to the Corinthians, what he said to the Corinthians does not apply to anybody but Corinthians. When we were adopted into the family of God we got more than the promises, we also got every Word that proceeded from the the mouth of God. Which is not grievous. Consider what I say, and Jesus give you understanding in all things.

The Jewish leaders at the time definitely killed Jesus & wanted him dead because they felt he was not keeping the Jewish Laws handed down by Moses & they chose to crucified him because they thought he was mocking God by saying he was the Son of God because he didn't come by how they thought the Messiah would come & they didn't have Faith in Him being the Messiah even though they seen him perform Signs & Miracles that could only point to him being who he said he was. Thats why Jesus said simply being Jewish doesn't automatically make you his people & by simply keeping the law doesn't make you righteous, it is your Faith in him that counts. Because with Faith your heart will be set right, & the fruits you produce will show where your heart is really at.

Jew listener here. I agree with him but there's a little bit more to it than that. While I agree that God could care less about the tattoo part of things, He just as well could care less about a Jew keeping kosher. The 613 laws presented to the Jews was intentionally prepared to separate His people from all the rest. It isn't just about who it was written to because Exodus 12:42-51 sets up a method of adopting strangers (Gentiles) into the faith with circumcision. This later became the argument between the Jews and Gentiles of the Acts church. It was then rectified by the church leaders proclaiming in Acts 15:11 saying, "But we (Jews) believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they (Gentiles) also are." Jesus's first real sermon in Matthew 5, which was directed at Jews, was on the topic of the PURPOSE of the laws. The Jews struggled with understanding the "intention" of the law and instead followed it to the letter without regard to what God's intention with it was. We can't say that the law is intended for Jews alone because God made it clear that adoption meant these laws apply to Gentiles as well; however, Jesus clarified that the Jews themselves forgot the PURPOSE of the law and made it about rules and regulations that they were now forcing onto Gentiles that Peter proclaimed in Acts 15 that even their forefathers did not fully abide. Jesus came to fulfill the law, meaning it's purpose as intended which was to love God with all your heart and to love one another as God first loved us (Matthew 22:36-40). Remember that as a Jew myself, I physically cannot follow a large section of the 613 laws because the sacrificial section requires the temple which is currently destroyed. Now Jesus becomes our sacrifice that fulfills that section. Same thing with Sabbath, Jesus now becomes our Sabbath. Hebrews 10:1 specifically states that the law is merrily foreshadowing of what is and is to come.
TLDR: I really suggest reading the whole thing.
