Because people want to look like they go on adventures. They want to brag about the capabilities of their bike even though most will rarely experience it. Most Jeeps, Broncos and 4Runners fall into this category as well.
Guys think they are funny slagging on ADV bikes but I tell you what I climbed on the 24 Africa Twin in the low winter sun here on the Oregon Coast last month and the seating position, roar and fat torque of that big twin, the gran prix red exploding in the sun were so astonishing I ordered one. Laugh all you want, that thing is boss!
On ADV bikes you’re capable of all forms of riding . I rode dirt, Street ,single track . I just sold my Vstrom and bought an fjr after owning four Vstroms in the last sixteen years .
Hype everywhere. Most would be a nightmare single track. They are glorified sport cruisers with higher ground clearance. Dual sports in the 500cc to 900cc range are the real "go anywhere bikes". Bikes weighting over 500# have no business outside a road, be it pavement, gravel or packed dirt.
People buying SUV's for different reasons. Because they're taller (easier to get in and out for older folks), maybe safer (ever saw a girl driving an f150 or Denali?). Nobody is buying SUV/ADV bikes for these reasons. It's just a craze, a trend.
@ sure but like honda and toyoya have found out theu their research customers want ruggedness… why? They are not taking then to the trails hence posing… its ok but just a fact
I'll take the bait to disagree. The only reason I'm shopping them at all is because they killed the middleweight sport touring market in the US. Zero intention to ever go off road, I'd rather be able to replace my old VFR with a new VFR800 or F800GT. I'm having to shop "road focused" ones like the Vstrom800RE, despite the fact that they look like the mechanical equivalent of a late term abortion.
I’m also not into them. It reminds me of the current automotive trend of having more and more offroad capable SUVs and crossovers even though they will never actually go offroad.
I want one because of the comfort. I can get luggage for longer rides. They have some wind protection. They have plenty of power. They don't make my back hurt. I don't plan on ever taking one off road. I don't care what others think about it. If you are buying any vehicle because of what other people think then you are an idiot.
Im only 26 and I want one so badly since I live in Canada and cannot ride my sport bike in the snow but seen multiple adv riders with aggressive spiked tires in the winter.
They are the closest thing you can get, that reassembles a horse.
True, LOL
Man you really said what I feel Riding my RE Himalayan 411… it’s a entry level Adv Motorcycle but the height and size gives a real horse ride feel ❤
A horse is the closest thing to a motorcycle, which is like 40-200 horses
Stock windshield , comfortable, storage options - make it great for daily commuting and road trips. Enough power to go on the freeway.

Comfort, practicality, lack of plastic fairings to break, but still with decent weather protection, easy to chuck around, easy to work on, panniers...
My man!! What up Adam??!!
Because they are fun to ride and go everywhere.

Check out the videos of folks riding them across continents. Thousands of miles in every terrain imaginable@@leandroflaherty
I miss this channel when it was ran with the guy that was last shown 6 years ago
best of both worlds.
Plus it's fun overtaking squids in a turn on an ADV or sumo )))
Because its the closest thing to a comfortable car without being a car
Wing is a pretty good photog too
Lack of road maintenance and repair if you don't go off-road
Storage and windshield
Most motorcyclists are old guys . ADVs are comfy for old guys.
Simple answer is people like to pose same reason they buy SUVs they never take them to thr dirt

@@FxRiderSTif you look at crossovers and SUVs more and more of them are coming out with off-road focused trims and they sell like crazy.
@forrest225 but what percentage of them will really go off-road?
The trim helps to sell.
@ exactly

Rider community is older and touring bikes are boring while adv bikes are rugged touring bikes.
and... you are younger than anyone buying motorcycles.

I'd consider one if I was 60 or 65. I'm not old enough yet.
