- Montreal police say traces of "accelerant" were discovered at the scene of the fire in Old Montreal that left seven people dead on March 16.
It's a major development marking a turning point in the police investigation, which has been in progress for months. Montreal police Insp. David Shane confirmed Monday afternoon that investigators now confirm it was not accidental.

When your a historical property owner and don’t want to spend your own money to repair it, you hire someone to burn it down, and then you collect the fire insurance money. It happens all the time with “historical” buildings

This is beyond disheartening.
The owner should still be responsible. The building needed proper reno for safety. These landlords don't care . May they find the criminals involved . Prayers for the victims families.
Check out the owners - if flame inducing products are found, they might have set the fire so that they could renovate and charge much higher rents .... it's always about more money ! Also obvious - setting the fire when everyone is there, they hope they can blame a tenant. Criminal.
So tragic. I don't know how the person(s) who deliberately set this sleeps at night.
5 months later they disclose this? Was the property sold since the fire? I want to know what happened with the property after the arson.

Meanwhile drug addicts continue to burn down the downtown Eastside of Vancouver and the city council made up of councillors who are a splinter group of a Vancouver conservative party think the solution is building more SRO style supportive housing buildings with spaces for drug addicts to keep using drugs. SRO style buildings have proven to not work. And one of them is planned to be built right next to an elementary school and new SkyTrain station. It's beyond problematic what city councillors and the DPP are doing in Vancouver. And it's not Liberals behind it, nor the NDP, like I said, it's a splinter group ABC that split from NPA doing it.

It was reported that the SIM ( Service Incendie de Montreal) had stopped visiting/inspecting dwelling/buildings in the area. No no no not true we were doing it not as frequently. meaning not often or not at all This place was hosting AirB&B while they area is supposed to be free of this activity . Tuning around , pointing finegrs to the next party , now it is criminal. a lot of questions need to be answered . The owner's lawyer saying my client did nothing wrong , he is a hero and want to open another Air B&B , maybe , maybe not , not ........
