I love hunting down samples. The CMA song just came into my head after years of not hearing it and I thought what a great sample. I love the CMA song and I love the original. Thanks for everyone's comments that got me here!
Same. I hunted this down on and off for since CMA released Windows. Was just listening to Windows again and finally found the sample. The thing is...this is a great song also!
this song already features some "Münchener Freiheit" style background vocals that were to become a trademark of the later Freiheit sound and also Stefan Zauner's more recent solo work.
It's like watching the creative embryo of the two brothers begin to form Boards of Canada. Never have I ever discovered an artists favourite tracks in such depth that lend to their sound. Sheer brilliance how they put together likely the best mix of tracks I have ever heard.
Holy shit, and after about 10 years from hearing Windows by CMA, I finally found the sample from the same comment you came across on youtube lol. Great songs
I played this on my phone to my unconscious mother to help her make the big leap of death, I hope it gave her beautiful dreams... Ever thankful to Boards of Canada for the discovery.
Empty walls and nothing's moving Useless time lies in the corners Not a sound to start a thought Strips of sunlight slowly leaking down the door And the window holds no sight Except a sky that has no room Billy's lying on the bed And the clothes he wears feel strange But he's lately getting used And just for habit he flips through the magazine He's read it many times So he knows it word by word The blurred photo shows a child's uneven smile Another young girl like your next-door neighbor's child And she got raped as darkness settled on the park The man had soon be found And he was sentenced to eleven months of jail He'd always been a decent man A young man in bitterness A senseless fist and legs that cannot walk Lonely in the silent crowd - cussing at his woman's open grave The driver of the other car Thoughtful father to a happy family Had caused the fatal accident Running a red light when driving drunk He can afford to pay the bail A sheriff in New Mexico shot a J.D. on the run Three shots were to be heard But no one knows which was the deadly one In the end the matter was delayed And again he has to read the short notice in the back "Billy Miller tried in court for possessing drugs And habitual drug abuse Sentenced to five years in the county jail" And Billy leans back on the wall And recites the words he's read Like a prayer's worn-out terms You need no explanation for those who know No, you don't need to explain to those who know...
Because streaming platforms suck at providing music that is less popular. Spotify and others suffer from the same issues. People want what is popular, but you and I both know that the true joy of music listening lies in discovering the little gems like these. Because we understand music, we can better appreciate it when something is really good and/or refreshing to listen to. We're a breed going extinct. Record stores were one of the last places you could just casually stumble upon gems in a commercial environment. Now I find myself traveling the far corners of UA-cam, Bandcamp or SoundCloud, where the like-button was pressed less than 100 times and generally nobody else but us seem to really care about the music.
Thx BoC...I'm in love...again.

Wow, I'm in tears!! The CMA nailed this joint for their track Windows!! A great find & gem of a sample!!

@@Jaysizzle4ever Yes indeed!
This sounds like bonus track from another dimension that was meant to be on Peter Gabriel's first 1977 Album.
Daniel Cichello was about to say the same. Genesis Lamb reminiscences too...
Reminds me of ELO a whole lot
Literally was convinced I had heard this on Lamb Lies Down..
yeah there's a part of this song that reminded me of genesis. happy to see i was not the only one haha
@@mildsorrowintegrated5631 On 3rd listen the vocals sound eerily like Tony Banks...
Beautiful song!

Like if Boards of Canada brought you here.
When this track dropped in their mix I had to freeze and just listen.
Cma sampled this! Called windows. It's Beautiful
I feel like this track was a piece of the inspiration for the way they did the Sometimes remix.
I'll echo what others have said and also say thanks to BoC for the heads-up!
lovely
I searched for this CMA sample for years
been on a mission to find which song the grouch sampled for windows since all over dropped
Strong MGMT first album vibe
Who was Billy Miller? I got an american musical archivist on Google. It's probably just a fictional character.
Thanks Blue Oyster Cult!
Any of you have the lyrics of this song? I would really appreciate your help.
Have a look at the upload here with the full LP on it - it has the lyric sheet pictured
Empty walls and nothing's moving
Useless time lies in the corners
Not a sound to start a thought
Strips of sunlight slowly leaking down the door
And the window holds no sight
Except a sky that has no room
Billy's lying on the bed
And the clothes he wears feel strange
But he's lately getting used
And just for habit he flips through the magazine
He's read it many times
So he knows it word by word
The blurred photo shows a child's uneven smile
Another young girl like your next-door neighbor's child
And she got raped as darkness settled on the park
The man had soon be found
And he was sentenced to eleven months of jail
He'd always been a decent man
A young man in bitterness
A senseless fist and legs that cannot walk
Lonely in the silent crowd - cussing at his woman's open grave
The driver of the other car
Thoughtful father to a happy family
Had caused the fatal accident
Running a red light when driving drunk
He can afford to pay the bail
A sheriff in New Mexico shot a J.D. on the run
Three shots were to be heard
But no one knows which was the deadly one
In the end the matter was delayed
And again he has to read the short notice in the back
"Billy Miller tried in court for possessing drugs
And habitual drug abuse
Sentenced to five years in the county jail"
And Billy leans back on the wall
And recites the words he's read
Like a prayer's worn-out terms
You need no explanation for those who know
No, you don't need to explain to those who know...
Why isn’t this on Apple Music?
most likely because it was released on an obscure label that's been defunct for decades. who knows who owns the rights to the recordings.

Pushwagner painting?
Indeed yes! I thought it fitted in with the 'dumb humanity - and all doomed' theme inherent in the lyrics
@@Nanetteothenight Can you help me with the lyrics? I can't find it and i've been looking all over internet ;(
Do i sense a bit of an early Traffic influence here?
the Pink Floyd vibes are high on this one.
More Genesis for me
What is that screenshot used for this video from, btw?
It's from Pushwagner's 'Soft City'
@@NanetteothenightThank you!!
Could be John Lennon circa Walls and Bridges.
