Save your money and keep your dream. My son-in-law found a boat for $500 that floats. If you found a few of those, fixed them up an sold them who knows where you could wind up. There's a lot of value that can be added to a boat with blood, sweat, toil and tears and you'll have a very good education out of it too. Best of luck.
Young man at 14 yrs. Old I so encouage you to follow your dreams. I flipped houses and 2flat apartments in the 1970's And was a landlord for years as well as had a 8-5pm job. Looking back wish I had flipped boats and lived on the water. Perhaps other viewers would like to know that the Paul Luke fireplace is made of soapstone sides Don't they glow when the fire is keeping everyone warm? I remember some wonderful fall cocktail parties aboard boats with a Luke stove. What a classy way to stay warm. This boat could host 20+ for cocktails; in warmer weather, 20 for dinner, when you can seat half on deck!
You are now known to me as Captain Hook! You hook me into looking at all these beautiful boats that I will never buy, but appreciate all the same. When I was truck driving, I always passed a Hereshoff (I think, forgive the spelling) in the middle of Ohio. It was so beautiful, even sitting there in the middle of winter. If I had had the money, I would have bought that boat. It haunts me to this day.

Always loved the Sou'wester. This was the dream boat for after using the Pacific Seacraft Crealock 38 for round the world. So sorry I couldn't pull either dream off... I sailed on a smaller Sou'wester in so cal back in the mid 1980s. Hard to explain how well she handled.

While it's a nice touch for aesthetic reasons, I would much prefer to have equally torqued screws, knowing that no matter where along the rail that I set my cars, that it's soundness has not been compromised, simply for the sake of aesthetics. Just my opinion.

Love the show! Love the presentations of all boats. While Hinckley is a great classic boat in a great shape, she may be good for a club show-off in a weekend day sailing but far from what sailors today expect from a serious cruiser. You can get newer, modern classics such as HR, Najad, Contest, Oyster etc. that looks even better (a matter of taste), with far better woodwork and materials, space in the cabins and cockpit, way better fittings and comfort for serious cruising as well as daysailing for the same cost or less at the 50' range. Also, without being a forever slave to Hinckley Yacht Services (had my nightmare experience...) that will almost double the cost of the boat ownership every decade... Again, a great fun show!
I've not had anything to do with either a yawl or ketch, though I lean towards a ketch. What is the differences between them?? Other than where the mizzen sits?
There are only 2 sailboats I would want to live aboard when I retired. This boat and Bristol 47 Center Cockpit. No other boat can come close to the Rolls Royce of boats. I wish I was retiring now and I would buy her.
