  • On August 12th, 2023 after many years of planning I finally made my way to Steamtown National Historic Park located in Scranton Pennsylvania. I first learned of Steamtown back in 2008 when I had rediscovered my love of trains in High School. But I never made it there. After getting more serious in the Hobby, and knowing they didn't have mainline steam operations for the time being, I made several plans to try and make it down to the museum, and they finally materialized on August 11th, 2023! After waking up at 4 AM to drive down I finally made it to the park.
The Baldwin Locomotive Works #26 and 0-6-0 Switcher pulled the Scranton Limited Yard Shuttle. While the Nickel Plate Road #514 an EMD GP9 pulled the Caboose Hop. With watching the #358 get close to operation, it was neat to see an authentic Nickel Plate Road Diesel operate. I caught the 26 on all 4 runs, and the 514 on two. From Various places trackside with the 26, it was neat to see a Steam Engine operate on this former section of Lackawanna Trackage. I was even lucky enough to catch the present day Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad Operate.
The Main reason for my visit was to see the collection. I had wanted to see the museum pieces for a while. Including the Famous Nickel Plate Road #759 sister to #765 and my 5th Nickel Plate Road Berkshire. The Union Pacific #4012 my 6th Union Pacific Big Boy, sister to #4014. The Reading #2124 my 3rd Reading T1, and Canadian National 3254, Canadian Pacific 2317, Illinois Central 790 and various other Steam & Diesel Locomotives around the Roundhouse & Yard. Hope you all enjoy my visit to Steamtown.
Steamtown, is a part of the National Park Service, and has been since 1995. Originally Privately owned by Nelson F Blunt, the Museum was operated out of Bellows Falls Vermont. Many locomotives that were once owned by the museum have left, and operated else where. Like 1551 & 1293, which both operated on the Ohio Central. #2816 was also at the museum before being bought back by Canadian Pacific.
Note if we are going to have any topics of discussion of some of these engines conditions, let us keep it civil below.
With that, I am currently awaiting to beef up my Summer Railfanning video before releasing that later this month. Hoping to beef it up with a few more Heritage units This fall I am looking forward to chasing 765, 1225 & 611 with possibly a few other adventures before the end of year! If you enjoyed my visit to Steamtown, please give it a like, and a subscribe to my channel for more Steam Train Content. I believe the 2317 will be restored after they finish Boston and Maine Pacific 3713 the constitution that pulled the farewell to steam on the Boston and Maine in the 1950s

At one point steamtown changed the description in the website a year or so ago about how it would need a lot of work, and it to like 3254 was not in the best mechanical shape. If it ever did it would be a long time out.

Opinions on which locomotive should be shopped after 3713 are always changing, and 2317 is on the list of engines being considered.
