When installing these locks take one serious issue into mind. Be totally familiar with being able to unlock your door to get out in an emergency. Practice unlocking it with your eyes closed while reaching up from the floor. I have investigated fatal fires where the deceased occupant was found at the door, unable to get out. There are those who say I'd do this or I'd do that but the truth is you never know how you will react until the situation arises. That is why home fire and safety drills are so important.
were they using this product? why not just bust out a window if there's a fire? You would have to know how to unlock this product if you ever use it- are you implying the first night you use it you may have a fire?
@@elilauffer You might have someone over that doesn't know how to unlock it. In a life or death situation the adrenaline might make it hard to figure out
@@elilauffer busting a window in a building that's on fire will only make the fire worse as the outside oxygen feeds the flames
even a person with half brain can unlock a door.

Bought this kind of locks and installed them because our apartments only have the one lock and you can never be too careful.
Same here I live in public housing apartments we have a screen door that locks but no key to it and then the main doors only have 1 lock in the knob no deadbolt or nothing it’s pitiful
Just installed mine on front and back doors. Will promote to friends and family.
Wouldn't it make more sense to install it about 6 inches below the doorknob where thieves would most likely kick the door? Stay safe ☮️
Exactly! I live in a “not so good” area and I will be installing these about 1 foot below the knob.
A friend of mine has these, he installed 2 on each door, one at the top and one at the bottom
@@jameswest1375That’s great! Could someone still get in?
folks you are forgetting something. This latch is not for security when you are away, it is for security when you or someone else is home. Also when an emergency requires entry to your home a window will be broken out. Additionally no lock will prevent your door from being kicked down. If that happens a mm with a full magazine is the preferred latch. it works quite well. I have installed many night latches, and this is the best one I have tried. the idea of the screws going in laterally instead of on the surface of the door frame gives the latch much more strength. The unlock/lock process is easily done by pulling the latch away from the latch plate.
Most informative comment.
I actually think that these locks were originally built to prevent your toddler from opening the door and going for a stroll without you knowing
At least, all doors except one in your home would be protected well. Then, you will need a deadbolt for that one door that you cannot use this on.
So, about the milk jug bypass...
So how would this work when your trying to leave the outside of the door?
See to get in my room door you open and push forward while to leave you open it back then shut it.
These are easy to install correctly because of that oblong hole. I just installed 3. I had to notch the trim on two, but its worth it.
Can you please share the thickness of the metal that goes into the gap? I am wondering if I am going to be needing a chisel

Got one, but some idiot broke it without any traces and left his empty milk jug in my living room.

I live in Australia, how can I get my hands on one of these?
Where’s the place to position these locks ? Upper/middle/lower portion of door? Also, didn’t see any responses if you have a larger gap (lock only covers 1/2 the door). Washers with longer screws or does that weaken the setup?
I suggest getting hardened steel screws
How does this device work with 3/4” thick door casing that is overlapping the door jamb 1/2”? The demo had a door with no casing which is unusual.
We use a freestanding door in a frame to make it easier for us to film.
Kind of hard to explain, but the fixed bracket that screws to the frame sticks out past the edge of the door frame then sweeps back at 45 deg. so it should be able to clear most casings. The Home Depot website has a 360 deg. viewer for these that lets you see all the way around. You should be able to tell what I'm talking about there. www.homedepot.com/p/Prime-Line-Door-Reinforcement-Lock-3-in-Stop-Aluminum-Construction-Satin-Nickel-Anodized-Finish-U-10827/202258432
I have a trim board around the interior of the door. Does the door trim need to be notched out also?
Only if the trim is interfering with the lock opening fully.
Every door in my house has a trim board around it. Please do a video showing that door type?
Even with door trim, the unit can be mounted without mortising the trim. in most cases The mounting tab is fairly long, and the lock is designed with an angle on the backside to help with this. We've mounted it on a solid core door with aluminum frame and trim and had no issues. I've uploaded a few photos looking down on the lock so you can see the angle that should clear your trim. You can see them here: imgur.com/a/kctTp
I use two of these on each door; one high and one low.
excellent idea
And now I know what this thing is. It's been kicking around for ages.
P.S. This isn't a lock, it is a bolt. There's no key.
Are these also called "Door Guardians?" Or is that a different brand?
The original Proline brand is sold in Home Depot. Lots of cheap knock offs online
Does the lock have to be installed above the dead bolt or can it go below the door handle as it is where I need it?
Why not put two?
Haven't seen it in any of the top comments, but if you get one of these locks and it comes with a 2 inch screw, swap it for a 3 inch for added security!
does it matter install it on the left or right side of the door ? my door open from the right to left
It can be mounted on the left or right side and will function the same either way.
Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo
Great product
Can you use this to a door that open to the outdoor
This lock will only work on in-swinging doors.
Are there any that lock as you close the door?I'd like to have extra reinforcement once I leave the house.
You might want to take a look at our Segal Slam Lock You can set this lock to automatically lock as you exit. You can see them at the top of the page here. www.primeline.net/product-categories/door-security/segal You can also set it to NOT automatically lock, for when you're home and coming in and out of the house.
Got this today, regretted it. Its very hard to open AND close. The spring is too tight. im afraid people inside wont be able to get out in an emergency. It would be helpful if there was a knob to hold and pull. I dont know if DW40 would help to make it more free flowing.
Did you end up getting it easier to open?
bigdaddykurt
How is the door security?
I applied skateboard grip tape to the top and bottom of where you put your fingers to pull it open. It helps out a lot.
wd40- try engineers flowchart in future
Yes I did and it’s perfect no harm from WD40 😊
Why get one when we can open one with a milk jug?
Thank you !!!
Most doors have a casing. It doesn't look like this lock will open if the door has a casing. It would be good to mention that in this video and the specifications.
If the casing is 3/16” or more from the edge of the door jamb, then you can mortise the casing. I did it on my door casing and the lock works great.
@@zackiinu7194 That's what I figured. Almost every installation will need mortising. It's too bad the video neglected to mention it. It would be a real pain in the butt, particularly on older homes.
@@alanrutherford93 At :30 the video mentions possibly having to mortise the frame.
@@PrimeLineHowTo The video doesn't mention the frame, and I didn't, either. The video mentions mortising the *jamb* to make the surface of the mounting plate flush with the jamb. My comment was about a *casing*. It's a lot more involved. Many casings are 3/4" thick and will interfere with flipping the lock open. Do you see what I mean?
@@alanrutherford93 You are going overboard on this subject. It's complicated and every door jamb that needs to be chiseled out are different. So, it's impossible for Prime Line Products to show common solution. Sounds like you need a professional help to fix it if you are gonna whine about it. Jeez!
That is good indoor protection!
What about from outside protection
Also, you are forgetting windows!
My door frame is metal. What screws can I buy at home depot to make this work?
You may have to drill a hole. then tap it with whatever size and thread your bolt will be. its a bit more work since its a metal frame.
So what did you need the tape measure for?
hehehehehe
Will this replace other locks?
This is designed to be a secondary lock for use when you are inside the house. It cannot be locked from the outside. You'll still need your regular key locks for when you leave the house.
what if the door doesn't touch the lock when installed? I think there may be a gap between my door and the installed lock.
Hi Juan, the gap between the door frame and the door needs to be 7/16" or less.
Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry, I meant that after installation, there is a gap in between the front of the door and the rubber pad that holds the door closed. I can't install it any deeper into the gap between the edge of the door and the door frame. I hope I'm making sense. lol..
I understand. If it's a wood frame door you can slot the door stop enough so that the door lock can slide further back into the frame and sits tighter to the door. It doesn't really have to be tight to work. A little space is fine.
Thanks for the quick reply! that's what I'll do.
Would I be able to bypass this faster with a full cream milk jug, or doesn't it make any difference? 😅
Why did this lock come with 4 small screws as well as 3 long ones? Instructions only mention using 1 short screw.
Did you watch the damn video? lol I am constantly bewildered as to how some people manage to make their way through life.
4” Screws get to the 4x4 !!
I would like to have seen that Barrier Lock a little wider on the door. Those hollow core doors are just a slow down point (they are not very strong) for bad guys.... Slow enough, so I can get my bad ass shotgun...
If you're using a hollow core door, that's your own problem. You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.
Plate the backside with steel, and add an extra hinge, is about the best you can do.
Military grade milk jug easily opened the door
What if my door opens out?
Sorry about the late reply. This lock only works for in-swinging doors. You can used something like a Segal lock. A Segal Lock provides as much protection and can also be locked and unlocked from the outside with a key. Here is our line of Segal Locks www.primeline.net/product-categories/door-security/segal

How to lock the door and get out?
The need is not to open the door from outside...
(thief will come when nobody at home.... hope you got my point)
its useless........
Ever heard of an occupied home invasion?
Now instead of just the door breaking, you’ll have to buy a new frame when someone kicks it through.
Josef
That's why you use 3 inch screws in predrilled holes.
Also I have two of these 1ft from top and from bottom.
With the lock and deadbolt the force used to break the door open is spread out through the entire door frame and stronger instead of one local point.
I also predrilled and installed 3in screws in hinges through frame.
You would need a massive NFL linebacker to kick the door frame off of most houses. Even then I have my doubts if other door reinforcements have been implemented. It's just one more tool to slow down an intruder and maybe make them think about easier victims.
If they do get through, it won't be quick or quietly. It will give you plenty of time to wake up, make coffee, strip and clean your firearm, reload it, take a nap, shower, then be prepared for them to break through...😉
A milk jug can beat it
You can open it with a milk jog 💀💀💀💀💀
Wow this is an Awesome product to keep the Mother In-Law out, who has keys and likes to sneak in Saturday Mornings 🤬

If only the instructions that come with similar door locks were as clear as your video. Thank you.
Door lock can be unlocked outside from a piece of plastic from a jug.
Warm regards from the god of locks, McNallyOfficial.
Would love to see a kick in. Just to see how it holds up. I've replaced al my 1/2 inch screws on the regular lock and dead bolt to 3 inch screws. Even my hinges of the doors. Thats a really big help. in itself.
Its surprisingly good.
Excellent idea to change those screws for longer ones.
Great tip… Thank you for sharing it.
I loved your demonstration! It was extremely detailed with no nonsense.
He also lies. McNally used a milk carton to open this lock. He responded by saying McNally used his intellectual property and had it taken down. This lock is garbage 😊
These are easily defeated with a plastic milk jug from the outside. UA-cam it.
Hey look, it's the door lock that can be picked with a milk jug
Placing the lock above the lockest and deadbolt is a huge mistake. They don't high kick the door. It should be placed in the lower 1/3 of the door for it to be any good.
When something like this was demonstrated, the lock is to high. Your absolutely correct. Plus the door jams aren't that strong
This would work great to suport the bottom of the door from kicking.
No one kicks at the bottom of a door.
I ordered 6 of these and have installed 2 so far. If you have thick trim, you will have to notch it out in order get the lock to sit flush against your door. Great product though, and it greatly reinforces the door against lock licking/bumping and kick attacks.
do you mean when the lock is longer than the frame? do i use a chisel
What if I got brick on the side I would need bew screws right ?
I wd install 2 on each door.
Great product, easily opened with a milk jug.
Directions were perfect. Installation was easy. Thanks!
I sure hope something as simple as a milk jug won't open it 😂
McNally on his way to show how ridiculously easy it is to pick
Milk jug
no one is kicking a door that high... if you use one of these, put them below the knob where most people kick and where most of the force will be absorbed.
You should really show someone trying to kick the door in, that's the true test of how good it is. Why wouldn't you?
You can shim these open with a stiff piece of paper or thin plastic card. Not very secure.
I want to see how this works when you are on the other side of the door trying to kick it in. Wonder how this works on crapy mobile home door jams. Thanks.
John Smith stop watching too many Chuck Norris movies 😂😂😂
Wake up, this is REAL life. Not a fake video
@John Smith what people should do is reinforce the door jam and hinges for better kick in protection.
@A Berryman or replace the door jam with a block home. :-)
WooP
Excellent demonstration and commentary. Thanks.
Super excellent tutorial. Should have been a college professor. Thank you sir
Makes no sense you are showing an install on a door with no trim. Add 3/4 of an inch for trim, the screws end up only barely catching the edge of the wall stud. Easily kicked in at that point.
I'll be back after I try and kick my own door in to let y'all know if it works
so did it work?
Hello Prime-Line - Can you make a longer stainless-steel version?
Are there any spacers? in case the gap between the door and door frame is two wide?
Waste of money. Get a dog it does a better job of keeping someone out of your house. The lock is complete crap.
My door jam is all metal so I can’t install it. Help
I ordered one from Amazon and it arrived today. It doesn't say "Prime Line" anywhere on the package. Before I install it, I just want to make sure I didn't pay for brand name quality and get sent a Chinese made generic knock off.

Your locks can be bypassed with a milk jug
How do i install on the top of a double door? It flips down
Maybe fine...But what about when your not at home??
Was thinking the same thing, that lock can only be used when you're at home
True. However, if installed in/on a home, you can keep the back & front doors bolted/active & then just exit through the kitchen/garage door as you normally would. So, two outta three ain’t bad when away. Also, upgrading to 3” screws in your strike plate is the first line of defense. Motion cameras & lighting are good deterrents too.
The lock can be open using a milk jug
Can these close by accident while leaving your home?
No. You have to physically pull the lock out and over the the locking mechanism.
Seen a cut milk jug bypass these but odds of a robber having this cut milk jug is more on the unlikely side not always your go to tool out of the lock bust tool box....but it's cheap and very common to find easy to make on the fly
I bought a few similar locks, and I guess my doors have a rather large gap... I didn't even mortise out the door frame to recess the locks and they barely engage the door. Half of the lock surface is touching the door, and half is just spanning the gap. Would adding washers behind the lock to shim it out more be a bad idea?
What did you do to fix this? Same issue here!!
@@asherrz shoot man, I forgot about these things altogether, I sold that house 2 years ago. I can't remember if I changed anything or just left them half engaged

Do you have a video on how to do this with a meal door frame in a condo? From what I can tell, the part that this would connect to is hollow. TIA!
Wtf nowhere in the packaging did this say its meant for in swinging doors. Only when I opened the instructions did I realize it won't work on my outswinging door
I dunno, talking to fast and no mention of install over molded trim around the door inside. If I have oak molded trim around the door inside, can I still install it?
what about a roommate inside the home stealing....u lock up a door w a huge padlock and they just push the pins up on hinges and boom they're in help me please I am so tired and poor on fixed income living w a thief can't afford to move
Uhhh... I think it's time to kick your roommates ass... What are you? His wallet?
Google Hinge Bolts. they are cheap and should be relatively easy to install. they work by a bolt going into the door frame when the door is closed, effectively deadbolting that side.
These are one of the easiest ones to bypass. Seen it done with a plastic milk jug.
