Random, fun fact: After bishop Varden said that the three temptations are also present in our lives today, so we better be prepared, my viewing was interrupted by an ad introducing a remarkably sharp and sturdy kitchen knife ... I will now name my sharpest kitchen knife Saint Antony and pray about my temptations every time I use it.
It's a simple idea, but I was touched by Bishop Varden's comments about the idea of conversion vs. the suppression of s3xual tempatation and the need for patience for "the dust to settle." It's so easy to allow the embarrassment of these temptations to lead to a self-loathing and the isolation of thinking you're all alone in these struggles. In my own journey, it was reminders like this that made freedom and healing possible.
Transparency. This episode can be summed up in this word, since it has a very straightforward approach to the strategies of the Devil, and how to face them.
Great reminders in this episode, especially to always keep in mind that the devil hates are efforts to follow Christ and he will come at us with everything to undermine those efforts. “Be prepared” is the best advice for this spiritual battle. Pray, fast, and keep close to the Sacraments.
FYI, this latest episode is currently unavailable on the Hallow app. Not sure if the bug is on their side or yours but figured y'all would like to know.
It's my first time. 4 days in. I live in the mountains and the water in my pipes is 33°F. It's the hardest part for me. But you could do it, brother. I'll pray for you.
Is it so hard to avoid the need to distract viewers from the main subject with such a trivial issue? Man/men is never intended to exclude women in this context, don’t be misled.
Perhaps it is not that easy if you are used to working with men only? Not to disagree with your point - it would be nice to remember (although the Exodus 90 is a program for men, so in that context it makes sense). However, "what does it mean to be a person and a Christian" would be better than "man and Christian". Just remember that these things are not obvious or easy for all.
The show is from Exodus 90 which is a program geared towards men... As a young adult woman, I didn't even notice they were using language "not inclusive". I guess I just filter it like how language used to be? When "men" could stand for "human race"- regardless of sex or age
@@ornange Also, Erik Varden is Norwegian so in his native tongue he might think "menneske" and "menneskeheten" which are gender neutral words for human being and humankind. So he probably did not grow up questioning why the word "man" is contained in "human" like some native English speakers have done. He is also a Cistercian which is also an all-male community. I'm female and it doesn't bother me but I have been trained to notice these things. Anyway, we live in a world where many people are sensitive about language and use of certain words. So I think that it is fair to ask if they would consider their language. Especially those who are used to speaking to people of the same gender might even benefit from being more conscious about their language if they want to make sure that as many as possible feel included. Just like if you as a Christian want to send a message of peace and unity to a community of anti-religious people, you may want to avoid calling them "children of God" because that will make it more difficult for them to get your point. I hope that you do not feel criticized - I just got carried away because I find the question of language and inclusivity to be like crazy interesting 😄

St. Antony the Great, pray for us!
I would probably call the episodes 'Week' instead so there's a known expectation when the episodes will be coming out.

Can you make that chant from the background available? Great series so far!
I couldn’t do the cold showers.

@ if I was younger I could.
Offer it up. I remind myself of Our Savior’s suffering and then the cold water seems less of a trouble
@ I get it but I’m too weak.

Would it be too challenging for you to use inclusive language....? Trust me it is easy and shows respect.
