At the beginning sounds an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello. That and the use of the fa minor key in the composition gives the vibe of Middle East /oriental/ exotic sound.
Think he´s singing to migrants in general: "New ground far as I can see, new ground underneath my feet, Stranger in a stranger land, new chance to see who I am if I have the strength to begin again"

In fact, the lyrics and meaning of the song are spiritual and describe incarnation and previous lives. Dimash is a very religious person and his songs often have a hidden meaning.

The Kobyz, or Kylkobyz, is an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument popular among Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. Its Kyrgyz variant is known as the Kyl-Kyyak. The Qobyz features two strings made of horsehair and a resonating cavity typically covered with goat leather.

¡Es difícil explicar qué emociones nos transmite Dimash, con su voz celestial! Después de escuchar a Dimash y dejar que su voz penetre hasta lo más profundo de tu alma, algo cambia dentro de ti. Es una vibra y energía diferente que no puedes entender, solo puedes sentir. Inevitablemente, un escalofrío empieza a recorrer los poros de tu piel y no puedes contener las lágrimas, que brotan de forma natural y, he aquí, empiezas a sentir tu cuerpo flotando, casi levitando, yendo a otra dimensión, en un estado de éxtasis. . Dimash no es solo voz. Es el cruce de todo. ¡Es único! Tiene un rango vocal, nunca antes visto. ¡Dios nos habla a través de él! Por no hablar del ser humano que es: generoso, amable, educado, caritativo, humilde, sencillo.
Dimash es inexpicable es como si Dios a traves de el quisiera mandar un mensaje a la humanidad tan corompida de odio y desamor, sin embargo el es amor y belleza en su maxima expresion lleno de valores de los que el mundo desafortunadamente carece ahora mismo , mira su cancion de guerra y paz y todo el amor , humildad y honestidad que el entrega, Dimash no es solo el mejor cantante del mundo , Dimash es un mensaje al mundo.
Debemos estar felices que pertenecemos a un grupo muy selecto de personas que esta en la misma sintonía . Porque me he dado cuenta que no va en gustos musicales, en conocimiento ni en edades ni culturas ni nada de eso, va en algo más allá .Dimash nos eligió, nos dio una parte de su alma y su corazón a cada uno , pero para recibir ese regalo tenemos una condición y esa condición es dejarlo conectarse con nuestro ser a través de su música y como hay tantas personas en el mundo y su alma y corazón no podían ser para todos, eligió solo a algunos ,los más dispuestos a dejarse emocionar y atrapar por su voz. Por eso no debemos prestar atención a los que lo critican o no lo saben entender porque ellos no fueron elegidos, no les tocó su trozo de alma y corazón , se quedaron afuera , no dejaron que su luz los tocara , se quedaron en la oscuridad, una pena por ellos porque nunca sabrán el disfrute y el placer que su arte nos proporciona.
Me lleva a pensar en la voz de Dimash y el elemento terapéutico que supuestamente tiene en muchas personas. A menudo he comentado sobre la capacidad de Dimash para transmitir emociones profundas a través de su voz (incluso cuando existen barreras del idioma, Dimash parece capaz de transmitir el sentimiento vocalmente). Por los videos que he visto y los artículos que he leído, Dimash es un ser humano muy enfocado (¡obviamente talentoso!), que tiene un profundo sentido de conexión con las cosas simples de la vida: familia, fe, belleza, niños, amistades y respeto. (No digo que estas sean las únicas cosas que valora, pero parecen ser recurrentes). Dimash suele ser introspectivo, pero parece realmente una persona feliz, a pesar de algunas pérdidas bastante devastadoras en el camino. Su perspectiva me ha hecho preguntarme si es el sentido innato de conectividad de Dimash lo que le permite mantenerse positivo y también le permite ser un narrador vocal/musical tan poderoso. Un poco de alimento interesante para el pensamiento…Dimash no es sólo bueno en este o aquel campo, en este o aquel aspecto de cantar, Dimash es el campo de sonido, Dimash es una totalidad. Esto ya no se trata sólo de octavas(7 y 3 semitonos conocidas por el momento), registros de silbidos (como escucharás) o incluso más que una técnica simple, inmensa y vocal, Dimash tiene una voz universal. Para ser claro, su voz es como lo que en biología se llama una célula madre. En este sentido es una "voz madre". A partir de esta célula se puede generar cualquier tipo de tejido, lo que comúnmente se llaman géneros musicales. Sus transiciones son tales que la transición ya no existe. Dimash no canta los diferentes géneros (ópera, pop, rock, también rap, jazz, neoclásico, crossover, etc...). Dimash ya tiene, desde el principio, todos los géneros. En su caso, los géneros musicales no son más que una coloratura, una inflexión, una declinación de su voz general. Lo mismo se aplica, por supuesto, a todos sus registros de voz. Esto también conduce al hecho de que canta fácilmente en varios idiomas(15 idiomas). Las diferentes lenguas nacionales no son más que determinaciones, sub-especies, de su sonoridad general. Permítanme darles un ejemplo que también es una confirmación: Dimash fue criticado por no haberse dedicado exclusivamente a la Opera. Fue el propio Dimash quien declinó la invitación a especializarse en canto operístico, y esto es perfectamente consistente con su naturaleza y valor. Dimash no es sólo un cantante operístico, ni sólo rock, ni sólo pop, ni nada especificado y específico, simplemente porque es un cantante "holístico" tanto en el sentido filosófico como científico del término. Es ante todo que, como he dicho, en Dimash cantar es equivalente a todo el organismo. Supongo que tarde o temprano esto debería haber pasado en alguien, y sí, sucedió en este chico kazajo. En resumen: Los otros cantantes, todos los demás cantantes, interpretan una canción. Dimash se ejecuta a sí mismo.Soy un hombre mayor y jamás en mi vida ha logrado ningún cantante o actor fanatizarme o aunque más no sea, llamar poderosamente mi atención. Con Dimash me pasó algo que nunca me pasó: no solo me he vuelto fanático de Dimash sino que ha logrado que al escuchar a otro cantante me parezca que le falta algo. Y creo que es la emoción que me provoca su interpretación, su voz y su presencia. Para mí hay algo de misterioso en esa atracción que me provoca este artista, es como adictivo, como hipnótico ,que te lleva a un viaje maravilloso de la vida.Vuelvo a repetir estas palabras porque es lo que siento al ver sus interpretaciones para mi es y sera la mejor voz no solo del mundo si no de todos los tiempos

He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that.
The kobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter.
He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable.

Ikanaide means 'don't go' and has a sad but true backstory. If you want to know about it, all you have to do is react to Autumn Strong from Gloria Wu channel with backstory. It’s the same song but here he sings this song in Mandarin with slightly different lyrics. Or I'm sure another Dear will explain the story😅.

Ikanaide (the original) was written by the Japanese singer Koji Tamaki in 1989.
This song is sooo beautiful❤️. And he performed it with so much emotions. You literally can feel his pain😪. His first song in Japanese. He has been invited to perform at the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2021. But he couldn't go to Japan because of Covid. So he had to sing it from the studio in China. There he took part in the show Shine! Super Brothers. I’m not sure but I think it was his studio in China. But I do know he got a studio as a gift for his birthday.
If the Japanese reactors are to be believed, Dimash sang in perfect Japanese. Some also claimed that it was better Japanese than many Japanese themselves😅.

Each Dimash song will get better and better as you continue down the Dimash rabbit hole. I know you're hooked because as soon as he starts singing a smile came upon you face. Yeah....that happens to all of us "Dears" even after hearing the same songs a thousand times.
He really is a generational talent and we get to hear him during our lifetime. Can you imagine hearing him live? Glad you took this journey in Dimash's world.

There is a different rendition of Stranger which he sang in China in a show called Super Shine Brothers. He took part in the competition for fun. Groups of different artists were put together to take part in sports, games and singing. Sometimes they sing as a group and sometimes perform solos. Dimash does a different version of Stranger which I’ve never seen at any of his concerts. It is also wonderful but Dimash struggles through it as he was having sinus problems and had to leave the competition immediately to have an operation. You see him struggle with the last note , but he did sing some of the most amazing notes during the song too. It’s a very special performance. There is footage of the other competitors watching him, amazed and realising they can’t compete on the singing lol.

He did this song again on a program called The Shine Boys. If I recall he left the show right after because he was ill but not for sure. It is not unusual for him to sing even if he is ill. The Kobys instrument you will see in a few of Dimash's song. It is the most wonderful instrument. The gentlemen playing it is Olzhas and you will see him with Dimash. He is an absolute master at it. Dimash also plays instruments, the Dombra, piano, drums etc. You must see Dimash singing in his native language. It is a beautiful language and most of the Kazakh songs have very deep meaning. Try Daididau from Bastau. He will be in traditional dress and you will see the Dombra. The song was composed about a true story of a man imprisoned for his political views in a time when hard Soviet rule held Kazakhstan. The man was told that his wife had left him and it is a poem if you will written to his wife. It appears he was told the lie out of cruelty and it was not true. He was later executed if I recall the story.

Heather, there are two performances that I'd really like to see you react to, the first is "Ikanaide" , it's a live studio performance for the Tokyo Jazz Festival, Dimash sings in Japanese. The other is "El Amor En Ti", a live concert performance from 2022 from Almaty. You will see Dimash sing Live on stage with (3) 70 ft. versions of himself doing backup vocals, just astounding. The second most popular version of this song was Dimash’s performance on the Chinese reality show “Super Brothers”. However, Dimash was then very ill, so much so that he had to seek medical help immediately after this performance, and then leave the show altogether. Therefore, you may notice that Dimash has a more difficult time here, and the voice itself sounds less polished than on the “New Wave”. At the same time, in certain parts of the song Dimash sounds even more impressive than on “New Wave”. Knowing the background of this performance, we can only be amazed at the fact that the sick Dimash sounds better than 99.99% of healthy professional singers.
