Shoehorning in some new alien threat (and shelving the reapers pretty much entirely) for the second game just so the new guy could write their terrorist organisation fanfic was a silly enough move by itself, but the Harbinger character was particularly groundbreaking in terms of stupid. Not to mention how annoying it was having to listen to his cartoonish, empty, ineffectual threats over and over again after you shoot the shit out of his puppet each time without batting an eye.
Even paragon run I definitely say that. Because it even shows even Shepard has his limits, and it isn't always a Goody to shoes. Especially when of course push comes to shove.

Going into ME3, I had expected the Battle for Earth mission to be like the suicide mission, but times 10, where you, along with _every single surviving companion from all three games_, go in, and you micromanage your companions throughout the battle and the way the battle plays out depends on what roles you give your companions; e.g. Garrus can either one of your teammates, or he can provide support as a sniper and have him one-shot-kill any single enemy unit followed by a cooldown time, or Liara or Tali can be on your squad fighting, or you can group them together and have them send emergency medi-gel drops every few minutes depending on cooldown; and like in Dragon Age, you can send out units from the different races you recruited to help out, each with their own specialty (the asari with their biotics, krogan with their brute force and tanking skill, turians with their infantry support, quarians or geth with tech support). Instead we got a more-or-less scripted battle where we fought waves of enemies. Hella fun, to be sure, but it could've been so much more...
Oh man SO epic I was expecting the ME3 finale to be as awesome as you describe...and in the end the most epic part in all the series remains Suicide Mission. ME3 finale was intense but very disappointing. They should have taken advice from comments like yours
Almost forgot!! After all the incredible appearances of Harbinger in ME2, I expected much more speeches from him and an incredible battle against him as a final boss. What did we get? We don't even hear a word from him in the whole game. Thank you EA
+Sanguiluna To add to that Dragon Age idea, what if for the final boss, you fought Harbinger and had the option to send in Leviathan? The fucking possibilities of what this game could've been if Bioware wasn't rushed......god-fucking-damn it EA...
I remember when ME2 started, how almost everyone of the original crew got separated and Shepard needs to assemble a new team, I was so upset cause I loved the characters from the first game, but let me say I was glad they did this. They introduced great new characters who you actually cared they lived or died, and this mission, I felt the intensity and nervousness of having any of them die. Obviously the first playthrough some of them died, but nowdays I always have them all live in the end, I just can't bear any of them die.
What really stuck out in this mission is that everyone on the team was involved. Even if only in the background, it still made you feel like everyone was trying their best to make this a success. In ME1 or ME3, you can only wonder how the rest of the team is spending their time while Shepard and 2 chosen ones are having all the front line action.
They really needed more full group missions. ME3 Citadel had the one mission with the entire gang and that was awesome as hell (Citadel in general was awesome as hell). I mean seriously, you put together the League of Ultimate Badasses and you only ever take two at a time?
@@Thewolfstation24 it's so sad that bioware has completely collapsed since the mass effect trilogy. They used to be a revered studio, until andromeda and anthem.
I have played Mass Effect 2 my first time 7 years ago at my uncle. I was only 9 years old, so the game was a little bit overhelming for me. 4 years ago, when I was 12, I bough ME2 on a Sale for the PS3. One of my best discision in my life.
The Mass Effect Trilogy (Mass Effect 2 in particular) is not just one of the great video games ever created, but it's also one of the greatest works of Sci-Fi ever.
great comment. also one of the greatest pieces of art ever. i truly loved every minute of this game. thanks bioware for spending years crafting this beast.
EdSkywalker to me it's the only one to reach the level of Star Wars (in terms of universe, otherwise it tops it because the quality of the SW movies was... fluctuant)
"Gamers, you've changed nothing. Your community has the attention of those infinitely your greater. That which you know as EA are your salvation through monetization. You have failed. We will find another way. Releasing quality."
Love how "suicide mission" is one of the most hopeful, triumphant, epic songs in the series. I felt like a bada$$ running through the collector base as Shepard with this music playing. Mowing down collectors, having every squadmate survive. I felt untouchable.
I did not expect ME2 to be as epic as it turned out to be. My favorite game out of the trilogy. I replayed this game at least more than five times because of how awesome the ending came out to be. Everything we did in ME2 mattered for the suicide mission. Every team member needed to be active so we can survive the mission without any problems. What was great about ending mission was how we got to control who to lead squad B, open valves, etc... I thought having us to decide which members did what gave me power to control the game a bit.
I think that's part of the ME3 hate. The last mission, the final battles with the reapers, the end all of end alls, is nothing compared to ME2's last mission. ME2's last mission set the bar so high that it wasn't topped so there was no real epic conclusion. I think the star child just adds to it.
Tbh, the final fight on earth when you have to fire those rockets to that reaper in Mass Effect 3 is pretty damn awesome and my favourite fight in the series because it can be a real challenge, but overall it doesn't compare to the suicide mission
***** I agree with you, it can be a challenge, and was pretty awesome, but it just doesn't hold up to the suicide mission. So there was no real conclusion, and definitely not an epic one like we all thought there was going to be.
Ah man, the ending to Mass Effect 2, scrambling from the collapsing platforms, Collectors giving chase, the Normandy drops into view, gunfire whizzing within earshot, the leap to the Normandy, the Normandy readying for the jump whilst the Collector base explodes in the background. All the while this music plays. Just perfection. This was the day I knew videogames could rival film for its cinematic quality.
Many people fail to understand this. I explain it to my Family ALL of the time and they think video games = Pacman or Super Mario Bros. They fail to see the immersive and cinematic experience that it is! In fact its even better than cinema and film because you are immersed first hand in a way that no movie can replicate. No matter how great a ME2 movie is it will never get across all of the conversations, nuances, epiphanies and small little details across the big screen that hours upon of gaming can give you. It is a unique experience to behole and I can't wait until our future comes and we can play it in VR like Ready Player One.
To some extent games can entertain better than movies, and keep you at the edge of the seat. The Suicide mission proved that explemplary well. Both in movies and games the music is important for that immersive experience, and Jack Walls Suicide Mission theme and Infiltration theme really hit the head on the nail in terms of establishing suspense, and really feel like you were there to get your crew back, and once and for all stop the Collectors and their bullshittery.
“Honestly Garrus, what do you think of our chances?” “Well, we’ve got a squad of convicts, psychos, murderers, biotics, and a robocop and we’re going through a mass relay that no one has come back from against the elite soldiers of the sentient space reapers from dark space.” “So you’re saying we’re screwed?” “Shepard, they threw a capital ship directly at you, hell they even killed you, and all it did was piss you off. If anyone’s screwed, it’s them.” Not a real conversation, but I can always imagine
I mean no...that conversation did happen. Slightly different. Can t remember who said it but ya they said, "they killed you and destroyed your ship, all that did was piss you off". Once I again I forget who said it
@@secretagenttau2233 It was the main man Garrus himself. "Shepard the Reapers killed you and all it did was piss you off I don't think anyones stopping us this time, we're going to go in there and kick them back into whatever dark hole they crawled out of and live off the royalties from the vids."

I’m an OG player but I wish I was you. Nothing in gaming makes me feel like the SUICIDE mission does. I wish I could remove my memory of this game to try it the first time again
Sometimes too epic. Was cleaning my house when this song played and I had to sit down because I physically couldn’t stand from the epicness and memories flooding back
Honestly, I don’t think any game will beat this anytime soon. This was in th sweet spot of game devs having free reign and making money. ME2 is also easily in the top 3 for “objectively closest to the perfect/best game of all time”
I lost Mordin :/ I sent Samara back with survivors instead of him because I thought it was very hard dangerous combat task, going alone in reaper hive.
+Udrakan Morturim ALWAYS send Mordin back to the Normandy, he's one of the squadmates who can't die if I'm correct. Seeing as it was already scripted for him to cure the Genophage in Fan Fiction 3
We don't know how much toilet paper the Collectors have bought. Thousands, hundreds of thousands. It's not important. What matters is this: Not. One. More. That's what we can do here, today. It ends with us. They want to know what we're made of? I say we show them, on our terms. Let's bring that paper home.
I played the original Mass Effect again, damn...i don't know which is the best mass effect now, for me both share crown now, please BioWare we need you back
Too much recruiting/loyalty filler before that epic part, for characters who mostly get sidelined in the third game. 1 and 3 are better but this mission alone is the best mission in the trilogy
This is the only game that has made me care for virtual polygons and pixels and love them as much as my previous girlfriends, i could not let a single one die, and i didn’t allow that to happen on my first run. Suicide mission my ass WE PROVED THEM WRONG BOYS!
First time I played Mass Effect 2, I actually only lost 1 or 2 crew members. Thane and maybe Legion, I think. It honestly takes a lot of skill at failing to get everyone to die. Heh heh.
Simon -Ghost- Riley I lost Jack, Mordin and Thane on my first run. Thane and Jack were non-loyal and I figured Mordin would be perfect to send into the tubes because he had that fancy omni-tool. Oops.
but music on the Jack Wall's channel isn't affected by that warnings. The title has "suicide" too. Unfortunately, we can't comment this masterpiece there.
What I love about this is that even though you are fighting the collectors, you don’t find out that they weren’t willingly until the very end when he says “releasing control”
Pretty sure you find out that they are just brainwashed and genetically modified protheans long before the endgame. Harbinger (the reaper) is only controlling their leader and some random footsoldiers to supervise everything personally.
Garrus: "that up there, that's the endgame. How do you guys planning on beating them?" Shepard: "together." Garrus: "we'll lose." Shepard: "then we'll do that together too."
One of the things no one seems to notice is the instruments bioware chose for each game. Mass Effect 1: mostly synth to create a feel of Aliens control the galaxy and humanity has yet to prove itself Mass Effect 2: Mostly orchestra (instruments of humanity) giving the feeling that only humanity is standing against the collectors Mass Effect 3: a mix of synth and orchestra, giving a feeling of a United galaxy of Aliens and humanity standing together Andromeda: synth instruments and orchestra but its arrangement makes it feel like you're alone in a new place and there's no turning back
in me2 you were assaulting some pawn minion base. In m3 you were trying to survive an existential threat that has killed millions generations before, a threat that the game kept bashing you over the head how is *literally unbeatable*. The 2nd half of the game pushes this even further by implying that everyone will just go and die fighting, not even expecting to survive or even less - win. This exactly why I love how Priority: Earth basically has no music whatsoever, just raw sounds of human screams, gunfire, explosions and death all around you. This isn't an adventure that you were preparing for in the background for 40 hours, this is a harvest you were trying to survive for 40 hours. And I am not trying to devalue to awesomeness that is the suicide mission. Yes, it's a great mission, but it's great *because* the game earns it. You are simply fighting Reaper pawn soldiers, literal minion zombies. Me3 trying to replicate that would fail miserably. Ranoch is another memorable mission in the series, mainly because it shows how it takes consecutive orbital bombardment synched together by FIFTY *FUCKING THOUSAND SHIPS* just to down a single pawn reaper that is more than 11x smaller than a normal reaper. This is the only reaper in the entirety of mass effect 3 that gets actually killed by conventional means, and even that took *FIFTY FUCKING THOUSAND* rounds of consecutive fire down the reapers throat, assuming the ships fired multiple rounds with multiple weapons attached to each specific ship and you're looking at more than *HALF A MILLION ROUNDS* of massive caliber projectiles directly firing at just a simple small reaper pawn ground troop just to disable it's motor functions, the reaper doesn't even die after that, it still talks and taunts you proving how there's an infinite number more of them and how wasting billions of credits on the rounds fired just to kill it is a pointless struggle.
Dunno man, i love the battle for earth music as it fits the tone of a galaxy wide war, while this one fits the context of an underground mission to stop a secret invasion.
my only problem was that I was to stressed that one of my squad members was gonna be hit in the face with a rocket, that I couldn't enjoy it until I knew they were OK. that's what Mass Effect does to you, something almost all other games lack. Why its so good :)
that was one of the things wich made this mission so good ...and the fact that you care about non existant virtual characters so much shows how great Mass Efect is......
For me, Mass Effect 2 Suicide Mission is the best goddamn final mission in a game i have ever played. The fucking memories just from this soundtrack alone is insane.
This is what a game need. A SOUL ! What is missing in todays games they are with no expression at all... You can play it, forget and live as if nothing happened. Mass Effect soak in the body and stay there forever then when you hear soundtrack you want to cry like a little baby
"Human, you've changed nothing. Your species has the attention of those infinitely your greater. That which you know as reapers are your salvation through destruction. You will surrender your potential, against the growing void. We return, and you will rise."-Harbinger. "You have failed, we will find another way. Releasing control."-Also Harbinger.
“There’s a realm of existence so far beyond your own, you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension, I am Sovereign.” Is the best quote to come from any villain ever.
I will never forget how I felt playing this. I was a teenager, just finished school for the day and ran upstairs to play the final mission. It’s nostalgic to me because now I’m married, live in another country and have two kids. Crazy what happens in 10 years. I salute you my teenage self, and I’m also sad I’ll never get to play as commander shepherd again. Can’t wait to show my eldest this game and disappoint him haha!
Mass Effect will be mandatory cultural education in my household. First up will be my wife. This is what gaming used to be. This is what gaming is supposed to be. And we'll never get it back.

+exvalos Kind of agreed but when you've "grown out" of some video games or don't have time to play them anymore it feels like that. My chest got so tight when I heard this song for the first time in years, beautiful.
+exvalos Anyway it will be the same universe, but not the same adventure... With comander Shepard it's not the same, but we can only hope to see a brighter future ahead with Mass Effect Adromeda. Uh uh Mass Effects 3 ending cough cough...
Mass Effect 2 is the best game that I have ever played. The whole plot twist with the Collectors ,the music of the game, the improved combat system, and the dialogue with your squadmates made this one of the best sequel games ever. I loved the third game a lot as well, I may dislike the endings (but not as strongly as some) but the second one had great characters, great moments and events, and really showed how without friends to support him the hero can't complete his journey. Just my opinion though, I am not trying to make anyone agree with me.
The fact that UA-cam gives a warning of suicides before this masterpiece plays is actually really responsible of them. I've killed myself at least 7 times while listening to it.
The Mass Effect trilogy is one of the if not the best games ever. They were very iconic and did many things that almost no other games did. And some games today even tried to copy what they did like having an open world-ish game with missions, having followers, vehicles, etc. The enemies and allies you make in the game are very cool and they have so much lore behind each character and they’re very interesting making it much funner to play with them and also how each interaction may alter the rest of the game and the following games. Mass Effect sorta started its own genre of gaming, lol.
For me,the Suicide Mission is the most epic moment in Video Game history. The Atmosphere, the Characters, the fight, the music, everything was epic.Fighting side by side with my team was awesome :D These three Games are all my first place in my Top 10 Games of all time. And I hope that the 4th one can be my 4th 1st Place :)
+Martin1538|Nr.1 Mass Effect Fan I agree on that, ME1, 2, and 3 were all good, until the ending for 3, sure they have the extended cut, but the damage was already done, it left a wound in my love for mass effect, I still love the games, I will hate the ending though.
+that1dude0092 Agreed, the games were in my personal opinion the best single player rpgs ever made, no other singe player game has ever gripped me as much and the music is a big part of it! Unfortunately the ending to the 3rd game was not fixed in any satisfying way for me by the extended version. I havnt been able to replay it since xD
I cackled when I first saw that scene. In the few seconds that it played out, it was satisfying to see that the bug that was harassing Shepard the whole game was just a sock puppet for someone else, and seeing it get dumped and given "free" will right before it died was pure justice 👌
@@BirthnoteHow is it justice? It wasn't in control during any part of the game, it's not like it decided to attack us, it was Harbinger that made it do it, it seemed confused when it was finally released, so i doubt it wanted to do any of that.

Shoehorning in some new alien threat (and shelving the reapers pretty much entirely) for the second game just so the new guy could write their terrorist organisation fanfic was a silly enough move by itself, but the Harbinger character was particularly groundbreaking in terms of stupid.

+TheBaconer shit, his idea sounds so much better than the normal version

I remember when ME2 started, how almost everyone of the original crew got separated and Shepard needs to assemble a new team, I was so upset cause I loved the characters from the first game, but let me say I was glad they did this. They introduced great new characters who you actually cared they lived or died, and this mission, I felt the intensity and nervousness of having any of them die. Obviously the first playthrough some of them died, but nowdays I always have them all live in the end, I just can't bear any of them die.
I feel exactly the same
I was so goddamn heart broken when Thane died fighting Kai Lung in 3. Like...I could have prevented that. He died a hero though.
The same for me. This is the best game I ever played
I agree. No other game made me care so much for it's characters.
BlueShit199 I cried at Thane's memorial.

Love how "suicide mission" is one of the most hopeful, triumphant, epic songs in the series. I felt like a bada$$ running through the collector base as Shepard with this music playing. Mowing down collectors, having every squadmate survive. I felt untouchable.
This whole mission is without a doubt my favorite moment in any game, ever.
congokong87 They were hinted at in ME1 in the lore if I recall. You know the bazillion pages of text few people read.
congokong87
I felt it fit, because they were this "legend" or the "monster under the bed" type of thing.
EndsBeginning I really hope people will read it in ME4, half of the plot is inside it :/
I did not expect ME2 to be as epic as it turned out to be. I thought having us to decide which members did what gave me power to control the game a bit.
congokong87 They were mentioned in the codex in 1, and mentioned in the book that came out before ME2 as well.
You either: know the Suicide Mission is the best gaming mission of all time or you're wrong
It's too bad Mako wasn't there to stomp collector-ass.
I think that's part of the ME3 hate. The last mission, the final battles with the reapers, the end all of end alls, is nothing compared to ME2's last mission.
ME2's last mission set the bar so high that it wasn't topped so there was no real epic conclusion. I think the star child just adds to it.
The Battle of the Citadel in ME1 was pretty damn epic too.
TheSmurf1973 I had thought the same thing since the first Mass Effect, but I think it was shining truer than ever when this game came out
Many people fail to understand this. It is a unique experience to behole and I can't wait until our future comes and we can play it in VR like Ready Player One.
what about the human reaper, dude!
I know this is a two year old comment, but someone made a TV series using clips from this series. Look it up on youtube

This is what the ME3 ending should sound like. An epic suicide mission for the fate of the galaxy.
Nah it all went down to one thing
Congrats. You killed the illusive man, now celebrate with a colored explosion
in me2 you were assaulting some pawn minion base.
@@user-ly2ll5od1r shut up

I can name maybe 10 games that had soul in last 10 years. That says something about this industry.
I am beyond your comprehension, I am Sovereign.”
Is the best quote to come from any villain ever.
Shepard, Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Jacob, Mordin, Grunt, Legion, Thane, Samara, Jack, Zaeed and Kasumi. My suicide squad forever 💕💕
259 reporters were knocked out by Shepard
You reporters are angry, i get that, but i came here to get help for earth and not answer to you questions. STAY DOWN
He/she's had enough of their tabloid journalism
He/she's had enough of their disingenuous assertions
He/she's had enough of their snide insinuations
Don't worry Commander, as long as you're out there saving the lives of all species, you can punch as many reporters as you want
Im 16 amd i still go back to this franchise time and time again, your eldest is fine
Seems you may get your chance once more. The HD Remaster of the full trilogy was announced last month.
@@gownerjones wtf
Still return here to listen this again and again.
Almost cried when listening to this, wish I could erase my memory and play ME2 again.
i wish i could do that with dark souls as well
now even 0+S are easy to me
Try hypnosis xp
I wish I had played ME1 before I had played 2 and 3...
The most incredible games series of all time. A game has never influenced and touched my life as greatly as the Mass Effect series. OMG, fighting off the nostalgia now...
+mrArchduke same here , i actually got into 3d modeling after playing witcher 3 ! both witcher and mass effect trilogy r my fav games of all times ! i just don't understand why my uncles death didn't make me sad ! but a video game made me cry ! best industry ever .
+Iman V Bro, I just have one thing to say: I've only earned Platinum in two games: Mass Effect 2 and The Witcher 3.
+mrArchduke I´m feeling the same way as you right now ;)
+exvalos Kind of agreed but when you've "grown out" of some video games or don't have time to play them anymore it feels like that.
Leave it to UA-cam to put a warning label on a song called suicide mission, despite Shephard and his crew being too badass for that to ever be true.
Another year has reunited us once again, happy N7 folks!
I am still replaying The Trilogy over and over and over again.
Me too, I'm about to come back again!
This game is without a doubt the most intense I’ve ever played. The fact that if you’re not careful, your whole team could be killed is terrifying.
Tbh Dragon Age started the typical BioWare subgenre of RPG
For me,the Suicide Mission is the most epic moment in Video Game history. The Atmosphere, the Characters, the fight, the music, everything was epic.Fighting side by side with my team was awesome :D
These three Games are all my first place in my Top 10 Games of all time. And I hope that the 4th one can be my 4th 1st Place :)
I think exactly like you!! The suicide mission is a moment when everything is perfect, and all the elements of the game are used in an excelent way.
daniel rodera Exactly :)
+Martin1538|Nr.1 Mass Effect Fan
I agree on that,
ME1, 2, and 3 were all good, until the ending for 3, sure they have the extended cut, but the damage was already done, it left a wound in my love for mass effect, I still love the games, I will hate the ending though.
+Martin1538|Nr.1 Mass Effect Fan Doctor who anyone?
+that1dude0092 Agreed, the games were in my personal opinion the best single player rpgs ever made, no other singe player game has ever gripped me as much and the music is a big part of it! Unfortunately the ending to the 3rd game was not fixed in any satisfying way for me by the extended version. I havnt been able to replay it since xD
Who came here after the announcement of the Legendary Edition?
"You have failed. We will find another way. Releasing Control"
-Harbinger
Best line for me at that ending moment 🔥🔥🔥
Collector General looks wistfully back at the oncoming fires, as he may at last rest in peace.
@@TheSocratesofAthens The scene of the leader collector always stuck with me, he looks so lost and it’s downright sad
@@edwardarroyo834
It was indoctrinated a long time ago and was little more than a high functioning husk. Even without Harbinger's direct control it would serve the reapers diligently. I don't pity husks.
