    What is a healthy weight for a two year old tortoise? ( She/he is a Hermann tortoise if that helps) thank you

    • @TheGreatPetShop
      @TheGreatPetShop  Рік тому

      I don't own Hermann's myself. That being said, they should gain 6g of weight per month from hatchlings to adults(~10 years old). Try to calculate how heavy your tortoise should be by adding the weight it should have gained to the weight they were when you got them. For example, if your tortoise was 10g when you got her/him, and you've had him for two years, then add (24x6=)144g to the initial 10g. This would give you a weight of 154g. I hope this makes sense to you, sorry if it's poorly explained. Let me know if this helps!

    I was bathing my tortoise today and the bottom of his shell was not soft overall but the underside near his tail was “bending” when I was brushing it. Is that a sign of shell rot too? If I use iodine to clean it do I need to dilute it? Please help! My nearest reptile vet is over 7hrs away

      Always dilute iodine and it's mostly likely MBD. Please seek veterinary care.

      The amount of times you give supplements to your tortoise depends on how old it is. In this video I have a section all about supplements, I hope this helps: ua-cam.com/video/B8qZ-Grg2nA/v-deo.html

    Hello my tortoise got soft shell but they still have appetite what do i feed them for high calcium

    • @TheGreatPetShop
      @TheGreatPetShop  9 місяців тому +1

      I talk about this topic specifically in the video. Increase the calcium in their diet through powdered supplements, increase UVB intake (buy or switch current UVB lamp) and bathe more regularly.

      Both kale and spinach have calcium and my tortoise loves both.

    Did your sulcata die? Or what is up with the big shell in the background?

      @@TheGreatPetShop Sorry to hear that. How did he die? Did he have a disease or something?

    • @TheGreatPetShop
      @TheGreatPetShop  Рік тому

      It was a household "accident" that proved to be fatal. Unfortunately it wasn't something I could avoid. He got himself stuck in a place he shouldn't be in. He was so strong that he was able to break from his enclosure and get in serious trouble.

    hey, I have a question as a first time tortoise mum. So yk when u have to spot clean daily, how would I do that because my tortoise's substrate is the same colour as his poo and its impossible to tell between the two😅besides from that love ur vids!!

    • @TheGreatPetShop
      @TheGreatPetShop  Рік тому

      Usually their poop will be larger than the substrate you are using and will clump up the substrate. Try to look for suspicious clusters of dirt 😅. Hope this helps! 😊
