Tom Clancy knew foreign and defense policy better than the US Government knows foreign and defense policy. All of his words and thinking back then has come true in Oct, 2022, to date. Amazing track record.
Pretty damn cool that this very fancy-sounding chat is about a VIDEO GAME. Now, I am a Naval historian myself and video gamer and more recently a submarine obsessed guy in general. I've respected the gaming industry for a long time but for that same long time the world didn't. I commend this outlet for putting out such an in-depth and respectable interview back when the game industry wasn't the behemoth it is today. In 1996 I guess it was already a very big deal but now it's just insanely powerful. I guess PC games back in 1996 were more serious than I recall but this just seems extra dignified given that they're talking about SSN the game, not the book, not a movie. Thanks M.E.J. for the cool upload!
Yes but some of the things he said are a bit out of date. Tom Clancy believed the Neo-Liberal thought shared by both Democrats and Republicans that if China was to open economically to the West, it would usher in democracy. What bullshit - have they not been to Singapore? Nothing to do with capitalism or communism... China is entrenched in Asian philosophy similar to that of Korea and Japan. Authoritarianism, hard work and obeying the emperor is embedded in the Asian man consciousness.
I love tom Clancy's work and he seems really cool and knows his shit, whenever I see and hear a military person like captain littlejohn I feel alittle more at ease with the type of leaders in the military.
I remember trying to play this game as an 8 year old and had no idea what I was doing so I'd run around in circles actively pinging for the lawls. I wonder if I still have the CDs somewhere.
Does anybody still play SSN today? Tried to make it work again a few months back but did not succeed. At the time it was a super immersive game that i loved playing
He'd roll over in his grave if he could see the situation we have now and how we armed our Chinese enemy and gave them control of our weapons and economy.
When I was in the beginning of high school we had a guest speaker expert about the classical composer Bach and played the cello. I played the cello. He was middle aged or around 50 years old. I found his experience and interpretation so fascinating and refreshing and he was so calm, well spoken and knowledgeable and obviously very well traveled and well read like the British gentleman here and Tom Clancy. I was around 15 years old at the time. I knew for my gap year I was going to travel and meet an older man like that. They didn’t have to be British or American. He ended up being British lounging at a beach bar at the south of Spain and we happened to be at the same beach. 12 years later I would meet an American from New York. He would also be 35-40 years older. It was physical for them, it was mental stimulation for me. It also happened a great life for me because they were well off. I wouldn’t change that for the world with younger men. While my girlfriends were complaining about their BFs similar age. I was treated like a Queen in every way.
... and what has that got to do with anything? The new art of scamming or what? Commenting under 10 yrs old videos with sophisticated, educated elders in it to hook up with the next gullible _'well off'_ .... pederast? Try smarter, not harder next time.

1998 and Clancy is spot on China likehe had an access to todays news.
Clancy speaks to the main premise of The Bear and the Dragon several times throughout this interview.
He's talking about the south china sea. China has it now, didn't take them long. As he said, they just decided to take it...

@@icysaracen3054 He's a great author but has generic political views.
what a great promotional interview for the game :)
we should have listened to this guy, he saw it happening 20 years ago!
Damn, Tom Clancy really knows his shit when it comes to China, I'm impressed!
Man could you imagine the insights he could give now...

War is large scale robbery.. hmm, nicely put
After 10 years being up on YT, with 22700 views, I think Chinese CCCP viewed it 22698 times to figure out their foreign and defense policy.
Off course 911 played out just like a Clancy novel .....
Tom Clancy looks pretty brilliant in 2015.
And 2020
2021 Also
& 2022.

Nah Chad, you were just playing the russian campaign.

There is a guy on Ebay that sells a emulated Win 95 with SSN built into it.
I find it interesting that the outro segment music is from Stargate.
Damn. Mr Clancy. Every fckin word. This was a video game press piece? ( I assume he was very frustrated at times)
Era When you can smoke in an interview

Wow did Tom call it.

Godfather Splinter Cell
Cold Waters these days is exactly what they were going for it sounds like
2:39 Hear ye, hear ye, Russia!
12:40 - oh Tom how wrong you were 😆
On which count? He was right about them becoming a threat.
strange to think that this is literally games-journalism
if there is no facebook and instagram in china,
then that limits business opportunities
Executive orders Bear of the Dragon without remorse dept of honor best books
RIP. He was right about china but so wrong about Chinese USSR relations.
Joe Kent no he was absolutely right.
Clancy has ZERO military experience.
Navy and Army paid attention to him and learned from him, inviting him in to closed room discussions, go away.
Tom Clancy would have been a Trump supporter, no doubt.
Of course, he's not paid off by Chinese money
No need to smear Clancy...he was inteligent - I really doubt he would support an idiot.
I highly doubt that.....the "Doha Accord" would have had Clancy voting for Biden easily.
@@thomasputko1080 no he would not have certainly supported the brain dead Joe Biden and the Neo American Communist party.
@@MichaelJames-lz7ni Don't insult Clancy's intelligence by suggesting he would vote for someone who's 4/5ths of the way to being a vegetable.
