Good reminder! I can't do gloves on the beach - they hold sand and it gets inside my reels...but I do religiously apply sunblock to the back of my hands!

Do you take the gulp jerk shad off of the jig head after a fishing session and throw it back in the bag to reuse later?
Yeah or they dry out and shrivel up if you leave em on
@@johndiasjr9000 are they reusable once you take them off the jighead if there’s a keeper? I find that the keeper rips up the inside too much to reuse again. It’s just too loose after that

I fish for halibut here in California from the shore using swimbaits and drop shot. I'm really curious to see if this technique would work for me since they're very similar fish. I'm just worried I will lose a lot of distance since I normally use 5/8oz and fish about 5.5ft with current. Do you think I should go heavier than 1/4oz on the jig head?
Not really if it's only 5-6ft deep, a heavier jig would look terrible imo - I don't know how calibut set up in the surf out there but here our flounder are often at the first break or lip, so long casts aren't always necessary. With shorter casts you cover more water by walking and making more casts instead.
@@CookingandFishing the reason for the 5/8 is because my rod is a palms shore gun evolv medium heavy 9ft6. It’s hard getting enough distance on 1/4oz. 5/8oz has been working but I just feel that a lighter jig-head would do better. It’s a rod I use for stripers as well to throw plugs in the rivers. I fish for halibut in the bays, not surf. I’m looking for something I can use from shore and inshore. I’ll be spooling my reel with 20lb braid.
@@erickescobedo4820 I think you will absolutely get more bites from a lighter jighead - that applies almost universally to all species and usually translates to larger average sized fish in my experience. Unfortunately you do have to downsize your rod to cast 1/4oz efficiently...it's always a tradeoff, the other thing you can do is upsize the trailer, not sure if you use Gulp but if not something like the 7" Sakamata shad on a 1/4oz jighead will weigh well over 1oz total payload, and will look great in the water. If I were fishing for halibut pushing 40" that's the profile I'd be throwing all day, if not bigger.
@@CookingandFishing Approximately how far can you get out with the 7ft rod casting a 1/4oz? The halibut here average between 23-28inches. You get shakers and the occasional 30"+. I use 3.5 inch swimbaits. It's been money since the bait is anywhere from 3 to 5 inches.

Difference between fluke and flounder??
Fluke is a local colloquial term for Summer Flounder (Paralichthys dentatus). South of NJ people start referring to the same fish as flounder.
So at 3:50 you kick a fluke back in the water like a piece of trash..very nice.
You mean I gently flipped a short back into the water by digging under the wet sand with the toe of my crocs - not removing any slime or choking out the fish by its gills :)
Please show a little more RESPECT to the shorts and HAND release them rather than KICK the little ones back toward the water 😊

Alot of people don't know how to safely handle a fluke. Especially how they grab them with to much pressure at their gills

@@pete69696 Fluke are inconvenient that way, they don't come with handles like a bass. That's why if I can unhook and return them to the water w/o touching them - leaving them on wet sand the entire time - I count it as a bonus.
