I hope you don't mind a second comment. When I follow artists and or teachers they all are good at showing me how to get paint on a canvas but there's more depth to your teaching. I'm learning more than what color to select or what brush to use. I'm learning how to see things differently and how not to try and be a camera. Its me that I'm putting on the canvas and I'm feeling good about my work and myself. Thank you for that.
Didn't skip to the last while watching your video! Still watching, this is the first time I am watching you paint! Will post more once i am done watching
Firstly, thank for sharing you knowledge so openly and freely and allowing us to watch the whole painting process from beginning to end. Being an expat Brit living in Australia, I find your paintings evocative and haunting.I have to say that I was not at all shocked, but glad to see you do something at the end of this video that I find myself doing very often!! Also it brought the scene back to a tranquillity and stillness. Thank you again for everything you give. Helen G
It makes my day when I get an e-mail stating "Stuart Davies just uploaded a new video". I have learned so much just watching and listening to you. Thank you so much!
Hi! I find your painting style full of expression and so detailed as well. It looks like a wide photos. I will try to paint in the future like that, specially as you provide full painting lesson here. Thank you!
Your videos are such a bright spot during a very challenging time. I absolutely love your art classes here and I have learned so much. Thank you for making them available to us for free. You are wonderful so ignore the trolls with their negative words. Have a lovely day!
There are times when I’m watching your painting and keep asking myself, “where is he going with it” your calmness and skill holds me to your canvas with awe and a bit of adventure to see where your journey ends, I always enjoy these, many thanks
I agree with the last comment. I love the way you are creating the light. You make the process so calming and in this Pandemic we need things to calm us. I haven’t worked with oils yet but you have shown us that there doesn’t need to be a fear in using oils. Thank you so much. Arkansas, USA
Many blessings to you Stuart, yet again I'm captivated by your calm illusion of mother nature and the build up of enthusiasm in myself to do which always occurs in watching your videos
Thank u sir...I have been practicing ur style and having really good results...I hope u are staying well and healthy. Blessings for you and continue to create! 🙏🏻
I’ve noticed how painting must be exciting for you as it progresses. It is so lovely. Thank you for sharing. Your classes must be amazing. Peaceful enjoyable and inspiring.
It's so neat that you mentioned looking at fields as you drive. I first saw the "rows" you mention, from the air, as I was flying to Germany and we stopped over at London. I was so fascinated by the fields in England before we landed and as we took off. They looked like patchwork quilts to me and were laid out in such perfect squares! I was in love with your native country and part of my heritage! Thank you for this lesson.
thats amazing yes that you see pictures in your head. maybe I have been in work too long. 40 years and then art!! but love it, I find this so interesting. thank you . really fascinating, you are lucky....
You never disappoint Stuart! Many helpful tips once again. I especially liked your comment about “sculpting the shapes”...that really spoke to me. I don’t know the first thing about uploading videos to you tube but imagine it’s likely very time consuming requiring a lot of effort. I truly thank you for making that effort!
I'm so happy I found you a couple of weeks ago!! Your videos are soo good and inspiring. Love the fact that you don't speed the video up,you are 100% correct people that want to learn, want to see the whole thing. Plus you're very entertaining. I already feel like I've learned so much in the last 2 weeks. I'm working on my first painting now, trying your style and I absolutely love it. It seems like what's been missing all along. Thank you for that!
Another fascinating journey in to the mind of Stuart Davies. The thing I have learnt the most is that to be good or indeed great, you have to fail. No fuss, no bother, just wipe away the failure and start again, whether the whole painting or a part of it. Perhaps it is the journey in laying down the paint that is most important rather than the finished scene. Perhaps, when I start to paint, I will never achieve 'greatness', perhaps I shall just enjoy myself. Perhaps I need to start ;) Thank you Stuart.
Oh, very interesting- no shock, just, probably, your guts told you to not stop in the middle :) Love this video, thank you for sharing, Stuart. Ps: I tried and ended up with a greyish mess of a landscape, I'm going to try again with clear pallette.
Thanks again Stuart, your commentry was spot on and extremly informative. This is your best yet. Loved the twist at the end, looking forward to the next installment
I have been watching your videos for over a year now. I use to paint all the time but that was over 20 years ago. I've always wanted to learn how to loosen up but I seem to always get caught up in detail so I thought I would try and follow along with you on this lesion. I wish I could post a picture of what I painted but you aren't set up for that. I will continue to watch all your videos as I've learned a lot already but I still have a way to go before I'm as free as you are. We love you here in the US. Please don't stop teaching.
I have been painting now for years and have always had problems with painting skies, or rather starting them. Your videos have been priceless in helping me learn something that I had been week at. Your work is excellent. Thanks Stuart.
I have done that, you remember things from years ago, but you can't remember things from yesterday yes!! But I still love your paintings, Mr. Davies! Thank you, too!
I really like it, there is so much detail in the scenery and of course the amazing sky. Excellent! Every video of yours gives me tips, for which I am very grateful!
Amazing! really enjoyed watching and learning ... held my breath at the end to see what you would do, and am excited to see what happens next. I like it before and I like it after. thank you for actually 'showing' me how to loosen up and not be so tied up in the process. how freeing ... am inspired. Am always inspired by watching you paint. And listening to you. Thank you
I loved the painting and then liked it almost as well after you wiped the foreground away with the kitchen towel. I look forward to what you will do with with this in the next video.
My gosh Sir, you nearly made my heart stop at the end! I saw a cyclon whipping away all that magnificent foreground work. I never expected it after watching in awe the progression of a creation of beauty such as this. You really are an art magician and sorcerer.
I really enjoyed painting along with you Stuart, but I must say, it was a bit of a shock to see what you did at the end. I’m looking forward to the next one!
Whenever I watch your wonderful tutorials....and I listen to your narrative, you have a wonderful way of speaking which actually makes me talk to you.... My son laughs and asks who I am talking to (because he knows I'm just watching one of your videos).... I always just tell him I'm talking to the dog! Thank you for sharing such beautiful work with the rest of us.
I am so happy I have found you and can learn from you. Thank you. btw. there is noise when you talk. could be a sound gate not low enough. I love your skies and how you formulate your landscapes. my kind of painter!
This is a true lesson, I am enjoying just having a go, not expecting my painting to be fab, just yet. Your advice about stepping back, taking breaks and not getting too attached is perfect for a beginner like me. I just feel a little guilty that I am getting art lessons from you for free, so thank you.
Hi Stuart! Good to see you! Only about 10mins in so far but I’m loving these tealy green blues. The trolls you mention are probably offended that you are not painting the bridges they live under 😉
Yes i have enjoyed the video.. Its beautiful... There is this one thing in all your paintings is the FORCE, the movement that you create so naturally... Its just amazing.. As you say let the paint have its word, it's so true.... With all due respect Sir i would like to add that "practice before you speak" this phrase is absolutely clear in your paintings and that's one of the reasons for me to be your fan... Thank you so much for sharing 🙏
The memory thing, Stuart !! Yes, I remember every face I've ever seen... I used to think everybody did it. It's only in the past decade that I've realised all people don't operate on a visual level. And yes, I was speaking to an ex a few months back about dreams (she had asked the same question) - I said that most images I make (with a camera or paint) come from dreams and imaginings... she said she'd never had a dream!! I was astounded...literally nearly dropped the phone! Really enjoying your laid back style; I think your videos should be prescribed on the NHS as saviours of mental health.
Oh for pity’s sake. Already up way late the whole weekend so here I am checking UA-cam right before I am about to sleep. Will defo nod off in the middle of this. First thing tomorrow I have this awesome long newsy vid to look forward to. Good... because lockdown has been gruelingly tho necessarily long and wouldn’t you know the death toll that was going down now is going back up. Ugh. *sigh* I need a really good pick me up like this. Gratitude to you for posting these lifesavers.
Ok I can’t wait a whole couple of weeks....I’m going to be on pins and needles wondering what you do to this gorgeous piece of art work!!! Maybe it’s the colors but this reminds me of Monet! Anyway I think I’m going to need a stiffer drink than tea after all the suspense!! Lol
As a child I visited the Laing art gallery in Newcastle where I was mesmerised by a large Victorian oil painting of a vast landscape probably County Durham. About a third of the way into the painting were two smallish figures walking towards the horizon. This scene somehow embedded itself in my consciousness 65 years ago and has remained ever since ,I think it was something to do with those two figures. Would you ever consider entering a figurative dimension into your landscapes? I love watching you paint so in the meantime thank you for all those wonderful videos.
Hello Stuart from the USA again. I want to share the fact that I also have scenes in my head that I have seen some years ago also. Things by themselves that have stirred me somehow. Some sky’s, and water although I’d have to live to 2 hundred to do them justice but they are there just as vivid as the moment I saw them, or it. I find your verbal explanations as good as how you’re working the paint on the canvas. Love watching you. Bye
Stuart, I understand the memory. I have trouble shutting my brain off to go to sleep. Iam creating a landscape or things I've done or things I've seen flash through my mind. Sometimes to sleep I have to have the TV on for sound. But your right if someone asks me what I ate for lunch yesterday, I can't remember. Thank you for your wisdom , your beautiful paintings and your calming voice.🤗 From America. Be safe.
There are many masters of style and technique on UA-cam that are a joy to watch but you Sir are the Maestro to we who are the neophytes in your "orchestra." As always, thank you Stuart for showing us something new with each video.👍👍
@@StuartDavies I dont know what to say but had to say something. So I'll ask a question: How f--g magnificent do you have to be before you are given your just deserts? You sir are miraculous at what you do!!! I'm going to stop my silly little attempts at painting with the people on tv whom I'm sure you hear about constantly, and just watch you. I'll stick with my thing, and leave painting up to MASTERS like you. I just LOVE LOOKING AT YOUR ART. THANK YOU STUART. W O W!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE watching and listening to you paint!

Your explanation and talking throughout your painting tutorials is what makes them unique, interesting and enjoyable.

Love your work especially how you go about the landscapes. Skies are pure genius.. Thank you for sharing with us. Much love and prayers from Pakistan.

A lot of artists that I follow, I always like when they use water as their subject. But I come here to this channel for the skies you paint.

Thanks for giving me the phrase 'creating in paint excellent!!
