I find the strawberry pie effects really cool because the game told you, "Collecting them is just to impress your friends." Which was true! You impressed your friends with the best strawberry pie ever ☺️

i just realized that in the boss fight with Madeline and Badeline, you aren't actually hitting her, *you are trying to become one with her* . Thats why Badeline glows whenever you make contact with her. The reason I know Badeline glows when you become one is because she does that at the end of the boss fight.

Anxiety disorder is really when your fear, which helped your ancestors stay away from hot fires and predators, kicks in for things that you shouldn't be afraid off. So in general, anxiety just tries to protect you and the game's message for it is to come to terms with it instead of fighting it.

Warning: This comment is a long, descriptive perspective on why I love Celeste and why it absolutely blew me away. If you've got some spare time, why not take a few minutes out of your time to read this. You might just learn a thing or 2.
Celeste. Celeste captured my heart in a way that few games ever have. Celeste is one of the few games that actually makes me enraged at times, then just as quickly calm and motivated. You never feel punished for not collecting the dangerous collectibles. You never feel ashamed of your deaths. Or your best times through the levels. Or even using assist mode. Because in the end, looking at the final parts of the game out of context may give the impression that you cannot do it. But that's not the point of Celeste. You, the player, are Madeline in this situation. A somewhat normal person in this world who wants to achieve their goals. Giving up on this will get you nowhere. But if you think it's impossible, prove it. Keep going. Never surrender to the mountain. If you fall, get right back up. You are told to never feel ashamed of your deaths. Deaths are just you learning from your mistakes. And no matter how many mistakes you make, you won't be thrown out of the level in a Game Over. The game doesn't decide when it's over. The game isn't over until *you, the player* say it's over. This game is a massive metaphor for life, and all the challenges we must face. But as long as the drive to keep going is there, you can and will learn and grow as a person. Only then, will you conquer what you believed to be impossible. And remember: if it was easy, if life was easy, what would be the point?

  • @ivorywizard
    @ivorywizard 8 місяців тому +4

imagine if Celeste had a bad ending. picture this: you've just finished the badeline chase, and during a conversation with badeline, a text box pops up, reading "Forgive her? *yes* *no*" If you select "yes", then the game proceeds as normal. If you select no, however, then Madeline attempts to climb back up the mountain herself, in an alternate version of the Summit's final screen. She inevitably fails, of course, due to only having one dash. And although the level looks normal at first, every time Madeline dies, the mountain gets more and more distorted and eerie, as it responds to Madeline's frustration. Eventually, the Seekers from Chapter 5 spawn and chase her down the mountain as it starts to fall apart. This begins an alternate version of the credits scene. Instead of showing Madeline and Badeline walking down the mountain together, it shows Madeline, terrified and running for her life with Badeline and the Seekers chasing her and the Mountain collapsing around her. Eventually, as she reaches the bottom of the mountain, she runs out of energy and collapses, her hair turning blue to symbolize that she can't possibly continue. The floor beneath her gives out, and she falls down into the abyss. Just as she's about to fall off the screen, the bird from the prologue shows up and freezes everything, just like at the beginning. It gives you one last prompt to try again. If you select "yes", it'll send you back to the original cutscene with Badeline where it asks if you'll forgive her. If you select no, it'll ask you if you're sure, and if you say you're sure, it crashes the game.

Am I the only one calling BS on how the "pie" consisting of 99% strawberries and 1% pastry is the best? I think you need to have a certain level of balance in either direction. I'm not even sure the final one can really be considered a pie anymore; it seems more like a bunch of strawberries, some ice cream, and a thin wall of pastry.

I think that this game is a bit overrated.
    not bad,just overrated.
the story was okay, but I was expecting more.
the level desighn was in certain cases kinda sadistic and unfair."god forbid you have fun with lower difficulty".
again it is not a bad game but I don't see what's so great about it.

It speaks to a lot of people with similar mental issues to Madeline, it’s also just a generally charming game with good music, good characters and cute visuals

A really good story...hidden behind terrible game. I wonder if the developer played IWBTB and said..."this game could really use a beautiful story of self discovery?"
Also...the music and art was great too...its just the game...the game is terrible

Why is the game itself terrible? Sure, it was frustrating at times.. but I never thought it was bad.

I don't have a 'ah, that it!' single thing to point to, but bunch of issues..
Note: Played this on a PS4, so first...
      1) PS4 Analog stick controls aren't made for precision, and boy, is this going to become an issue because later on, this game is nothing but precision. (And I know, the directional pad is right there...but no one uses it...because no one is 'used' to it...I might as well 'waggle the Wii controller' for all the good that would do).
      2) Climbing constantly feels uncomfortable/unnatural/and unnecessary...(thinking back, there is really no reason why this need to be a button press at all. Madeline could just stick to the wall by holding the direction of the wall, there's no need to force the SotC grab mechanics on a 2D platformer).
But I think I'll just tie my points together with...
      3) All failures are death. First, I know its an very indie game...so the whole 'everything-kills-you', is because programming an HP system is hard. But it works for VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy, IWBTG...etc...and i wouldn't call those games 'terrible,' so why Celeste...
Its because I cared about Madeline. She is a really endearing, flawed, confused young girl...that i watched die 1,000 times before the fourth stage. Not 'retry,' 'continued from last checkpoint,' or 'respawn at the bonfire,' the game is adamant that Madeline died, that you killed her and is constantly counting how many times you failed this young girl. And don't believe the BS the game telling you about 'deaths' being the tally of your dedication, or something...f that... That developer message should read, "Lol, you ded! git gud." The stages are literally frame perfect spike weaving and the crippled controls were getting this girl killed hundreds and hundreds of times over...
I quit playing the game for about nine months, until last week...I tried again, watched Madeline die about 20 time attempting some never-intuitive cloud bouncing mechanics when I said 'f*ck it,' and turned on 'assist-mode.'
Then, something amazing happened...I started to enjoying the game...I didn't have to fight the controls, didn't have to watch to Madeline die, found secrets and explored, listened to some amazing music, and best of all...witness a truly beautiful story.
That, actually, is my 'ah, that's it' moment...I was able to enjoy the game, by not playing the game.
Celeste is a terrible game because a great gaming experience was trapped and locked away behind a nearly unplayable game!
      sorry about the essay
(btw, its not that I don't like difficult games, i've beaten VVVVVV, i've beaten 'Lingering Will,' hell, I even have a BL4 character on Bloodborne holding the Yharnam Stone...but honestly, Celeste felt cluncky and cruel)

I've beaten Celeste on PC with a keyboard without any struggle (ok, maybe the cloud timing was a little off for me). These seven chapters took me 7 and a half an hour and excluding NES and SNES Mario games - Celeste was my first true 2D platform game
Btw I dont find the climbing mechanics unnecessary. The game is all about the skill and the reflexes of the player. And also, the automatic sticking to walls would make the game too easy in my opinion.
And I dont really think that the level design is flawed or something, I enjoyed the hell out of Celeste not only because of its moving and great storyline but also because when died ingame I truly felt that it was 100% my fault and not the controls' fault or the level design. Every new gimmick is introduced in a very natural and soft way (except those fucking clouds, bhahaha) and I barely had any struggle with beating this game.
But thats my opinion. If I had to, I would recommend you replaying Celeste on PC with a keyboard - if I could find Celeste entertaining that way, maybe you will too?
(anyway sorry for my shit english, its not my mother tongue and im writing this in the middle of the night, so yeah)
